Tool isn’t that bad, they are above average. Tool fans aren’t even that bad either. This meme is just β€œpineapple pizza is evil” for music

As someone who was just caping for Tool here, I need to point out that Tool fans are fucking insufferable a good portion of the time. They are too fixated on pseudo-profound bullshit and numerological codes and peyote trips, and it's not like that wasn't facilitated by the band itself (Maynard especially).

I remember some Tool fan online telling me that the random high frequency noise in their latest album was them trying to send a message or something. Instead of the much more likely explanation that their hearing has suffered after years of performing, and they just didn't hear the high frequency stuff during production.

And that they are apparently too egotistical to let a mix engineer, producer, or master engineer fix it

Tool fans hearing static: is-this an ARG?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Pretty much every band in existence has incredibly cringe fan aesthetics

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Most bands do not have an equivalent to Lateralus fans, though a handful do. Being too fixated on peyote trips (or the like) is definitely common, but talking about how the timestamps of drum fills relates to alchemy or some other deliberately esoteric subject as a nebulous metaphor for . . . self-improvement? is definitely not something you'd find among whatever losers listen to Imagine Dragons.

Imagine Dragons and their fans are infinitely more reactionary and insufferable than acid smashed hippies talking about shared consciousness

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

imagine dragons fans are passive. they just listen to the music and care about how it makes em feel

tool fans are far from passive. they need to tell you why tool is good and maynard is a genius. how danny is the best drummer playing the most complex beats ever. this makes them annoying.

i should know, i am a tool fan

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Not my experience. I had a gamer zoomer cousin who was obsessed with imagine dragons and would take over the car radio and play exclusively leagueoflegends-core and get really annoyed at anything else and call it boomer music if it had guitars

Guy I know is a big Tool fan and was talking about Numa and shared consciousness or something.

Sounds cool. I like hanging with acid blasted hippies, they are interesting even if their brains are fried

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Spiritual people are by far the best hangs and it's not even close

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Always hated the neo-reactionary thing in US culture of hating hippies. Sure, some of them are new-age crackpots, but most are more open, fun and interesting than the majority of people.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

the only band I'd take Numa with is O-Zone

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I’m curious to know how many people here who hate tool fans are into metal or jazz and into those scenes? Tool is a lot of people’s only dip into the metal scene so maybe it seems like they are really uniquely mean or pretentious, but trust me you will find people exactly like that at every metal show

who are you to

bateman-ontological point your finger you must

i once went to a show that maynard did as puscifer. they had some little people wrestling in a lucha libre style which was really neat and some great performances all around. It was at a seated venue in an orchestra hall.

in between the show and the encore i texted my friends to say i'd meet them at the street corner to pick them up post-show. a guy behind me threatened to beat my head in and got belligerent because i had my phone out momentarily. guy got thrown out after he started pushing me, otherwise unprovoked

shithead was wearing a tool shirt. tool fans suck ass. i like the music though

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

lol yes and when they show you music videos

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Tool concert was definitely one of the whitest places I ever went

You know the situation is bad when an MF Doom fan can say that another fan base is too white and be completely justified in saying it lmao

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

love screwdrivers

can confirm

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

It's not designed to be listened to sober

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

I think this is a little harsh, ime 46 & 2 gets the most radio play, and it's really pretentious but musically it's still pretty strong. Also I won't let anyone insult my large adult son, Stinkfist.

But if any station is playing their last album for some reason, throw those people under the bus. The only good tracks there are the ones Maynard isn't on.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Been a fan of their music since HS, it's interesting and dark. But I don't get obsessing over it, never understood people's drive to worship people like celebrity demi-gods. Maynard is a shit head too and I get bad vibes from him, like he's hurt people for fun.

He did however have a concert near a military base once and almost the whole crowd was military, I think it was shortly after the invasion of Iraq. Apparently all he did was bahh like a sleep at them for 40 minutes, kinda funny.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Haha yeah I only listen to good music side-eye-1 side-eye-2

I know a song that's lit

It has-an inter-esting beat. to. it.

Pure pretension

That's supposed

Incels fellating turgid prose

To sublimate their masturbation

one of those memes where you can keep making different groups of people mad by simply changing one word in the top text

Speaking as a musician - Tool is awesome artistically, the music is great, but for me personally the air of pretentiousness really turns me off. I make music to have fun and for my audience to have fun, and it's hard to do that if you're constantly wafting your own farts. There are plenty of "best in the world" musicians out there who are aware that they are unbelievably skilled and put on an incredible show, but still manage not to take themselves so seriously.
