I remember some Tool fan online telling me that the random high frequency noise in their latest album was them trying to send a message or something. Instead of the much more likely explanation that their hearing has suffered after years of performing, and they just didn't hear the high frequency stuff during production.
And that they are apparently too egotistical to let a mix engineer, producer, or master engineer fix it
