Israel trying to pass the hospital bombing off as Palestine doing it is utterly disgusting and guarantees Netanyahu a spot in the deepest pit of Hell for all eternity, obviously, but do not forget that

a) the only reason why Westerners will believe it is because they want to believe it - they are not being brainwashed and this is not some masterful propaganda being weaved around us to turn kind-hearted people into monsters,

b) no Westerner opinions matter at all. In most Western countries there is no real anti-Israel option to vote for even if they did realize that Israel was a giant factory for crimes against humanity, and Westerners protesting against things in general almost never achieves anything (tens of millions protested for BLM in 2020 and not only did the situation not change, it got worse), and

c) the people whose opinions do matter (both the people in the region, and the leaders who aren't already Zionist compradors) already know that Israel is full of shit and that they just murdered nearly a thousand civilians in a single bomb attack.

It is despair-inducing to think that the genocidal Zionist entity is so brazenly, so smugly getting away with bullshitting this away into a cloud of confusion, as they release their metaphorical squid ink just like they did with the stupid babies story, but the propaganda and the media narrative that they are creating isn't what matters. It cannot address the fundamental contradictions ripping the country, the region, and the world apart any more than masterfully-applied makeup can fix a stab wound. It can merely obfuscate.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

At this point I'm genuinely not sure what would be more damaging to the USA in the long term:

  • Trump, the bumbling 78-82 year old cheetoh man?
  • Or the 82-86 year old shambling corpse, Genocide Joe?

Trudeau not ready to accept US finding that Palestinian outfit was behind Gaza hospital blast

Little potato's position was already under threat from US right-wing backers financially supporting PP. This refusal to follow the US line is probably going to ratchet that up.

@SeanBlackmon9 from the Party for Socialism and Liberation said that the narratives about Palestinians are dishonest, because no matter what they do, they're attacked as terrorists or anti-Semitic.

He compares the plight of Palestinians to if a person were being lynched and fought back with a noose around their neck, and then got accused of violence.

"If we want to bring down Apartheid Israel, not only will we have to defeat imperialism, we will have to overturn the capitalist system out of which the imperialist system grows," he said.

"We need a socialist reconstruction of the United States of America."

BTW, if anyone here is an active Wikipedian, feel free to contribute to the ongoing edit war over this line in the new article: "Hamas has been known to store munitions inside hospitals, mosques, and schools in the past.[12]" This is the easiest WP:SYNTH of all time since the source is not referring to the current events and thus including it is clearly attempting to make connections rather than neutrally collect reports on what is happening and what claims have been made.

e: success! As of a minute or two ago, consensus was reached to remove this line. Anticipating that the admin will unilaterally decide that it's valuable background and add it back in (since they're shoveling IDF propo into the article rn) but it's worth celebrating the small victories, I guess. Gotta keep track of the stars that exist in the overwhelming darkness of the night sky.

[-] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 68 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

No, no its totally plausible Hamas has air burst munitions capable of killing a 1000 people in one swoop, and they decided a week into the conflict after horrific casualties to finally use it, and the one time they do it just happens to malfunction and land directly on top of a hospital that was previously bombed by Israel and was slated for another attack by the IDF, yeah this is believable lenin-sure

One on hand, I feel genuinely surprised over how much support Palestine has with the public versus my expectations in the first couple days of all this.

On the other hand, the only opinions I’ve seen from “leftists” outside of this website has been to qualify any support for Palestine with “but of course Hamas are terrorists and the bad guys and need to be dealt with”. Like this idea that all Palestinian violence against Israel is self-defense is completely foreign to people who superficially support a free Palestine (in the west at least).

The United States has proposed a draft UN Security Council resolution that says Israel has a right to defend itself.

It also calls for Iran stop exporting arms to "militias and terrorist groups threatening peace and security across the region".

The draft text calls for the protection of civilians — including those who are trying to get to safety — notes that states must comply with international law when responding to "terrorist attacks", and urges the "continuous, sufficient and unhindered" delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip.

The move by the US comes after it vetoed a Brazilian-drafted text on Wednesday that would have called for humanitarian pauses in the conflict between Israel and Palestinian Hamas militants, to allow aid access to Gaza.

US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield justified Wednesday's veto by telling the council more time was needed for diplomacy on the ground as US President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited the region.

Ms Thomas-Greenfield said the US was also disappointed Wednesday's draft did not mention Israel's right to self-defence.

We had a few very small pro-Palestine protests in Finland a few days ago. What I noticed was the people taking part in these were nearly 100% immigrants who by taking part in anything like this are taking huge personal risks regarding the right to stay and safety in general. There was also no information anywhere about these protest because this country has effectively kept all etcnic minorities outside of society and there really is no area where we cross paths.

The local rabbi has now announced that they will be raising charges againts these protesters for ethnic agitation and defamation.

This will likely lead to these people being deported or can be used againts them in other ways. It will surely stop all protests because even on protesting againts austerity policy or raising voices about issues within this country immigrants often have to stay out in fear of retaliation, I was told this by an international student who felt unsafe voicing their issues during the student protests here.

Israel-which won't allow any independent reporters on the ground whatsoever-has now escalated their stance of "we didn't bomb the hospital we said we were bombing an hour earlier" to "500 people didn't actually die." I choose to believe this because Chapo Trap House annoys me.

Idk if anyone's posted it here yet, but Josh Paul, a senior US State Department official who was in change of arms transfers, just resigned in protest over what's going been going on in Gaza. He put up a letter on his LinkedIn page, which you can read here. It's obviously coming from a lib perspective, but it is still pretty remarkable that the top gun runner for the the US empire is taking more issue with the situation than the vast majority of mainstream media or "progressive" politicians.

Its fun watching the empire crumble, but I die inside seeing whats happening to the citizens in between. Russians, Ukrainians, and Palestinians are getting killed every second for their battles resisting fascism and imperialism. Any of them are braver than I will be.

Ukraine and Russia used to be one. Arabs and Jews had worked in harmony for centuries before radicalized nationalism ruined it all. These are wars of sisters having to kill their siblings.

Will post in the atrocities thread, but I think I've got a decent timeline of the hospital bombing. Please add anything that I've missed here

  • Friday, 13th October -- IDF orders evacuation of all northern Gaza and specifically ordered hospitals to evacuate (IDF English statement on twitter | UN response)
  • Saturday, 14th October -- Two attacks happen on Saturday. First, The IDF targeted the homes of three staff members, including the medical director, Dr Maher Ayyad (source). Second, the al-Ahli hospital's cancer ward is hit by a missile at 7.30pm, injuring 4 staff members.. I think this was a warning shot.
  • Sunday, 15th October -- Thousands of refugees begin to take shelter in hospitals, including Al-Ahli. Hospital officials seem to have been warned several times to evacuate the premises. I don't know enough Arabic to hunt down or confirm these sources but Arab TV quotes an "Evangelical (Protestant?) Church in Jerusalem" saying they were warned to evacuate the hospital three times via phone.
  • Monday, 16th October -- More refugees and warnings, I'm assuming. Reports continue to come out about how the hospital is overflowing with patients who have no where to go and that the hospital has no more medicine or supplies to treat them. The Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, who run the hospital, declare a day of prayer and fasting for Tuesday, 17th October.
  • Tuesday, 17th October -- The IDF strike al-Ahli hospital with a guided missile during the day of prayer and fasting.

As discussion of the facts continue, I really want to again emphasise that the IDF had attacked the hospital already and targeted the homes of the medical director of the hospital. Finally, al-Ahli is one of fifteen hospitals that have been attacked in Gaza since 7th Oct (source).

Biden says Gaza hospital blast ‘appears as though it was done by the other team’ and not Israel

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — President Joe Biden vowed to show the world that the U.S. stands in solidarity with Israelis during his visit there Wednesday, and offered an assessment that the deadly explosion at a Gaza Strip hospital apparently was not carried out by the Israeli military.

“Based on what I’ve seen, it appears as though it was done by the other team, not you,” Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a meeting. But Biden said there were “a lot of people out there” who weren’t sure what caused the blast.

Biden didn’t offer details on why he believed the blast was not caused by the Israelis.

Biden is now backing up Israeli lies about their strike on the hospital (per CNN):

Speaking alongside Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden said it appeared Tuesday's deadly blast at a Gaza hospital was "done by the other team, not you," echoing Israeli assertions that the bombing was caused by an Islamic Jihad rocket.

I really fucking hate Biden.

“But there’s a lot of people out there not sure, so we’ve got a lot, we’ve got to overcome a lot of things,” Biden added.

jfc, so to Genocide Joe, the biggest problem we face is that others think it was Israel that blew up the hospital, and they just need some convincing!?!?

I got a fundraiser email from Bernie. The absolute imperial bootlicker fuck.

“ The barbarous terrorist act committed by Hamas against innocent men, women, and children in Israel was a horrific act that must be strongly condemned by the entire world. There is absolutely no justification for shooting down hundreds of young people at a music festival, killing babies in cold blood and taking hostages. In my view, the state of Israel has the absolute right to defend itself against Hamas' terrorism.

It is also clear that this attack will only embolden the extremists on both sides who see violence as the only answer. It also creates the immediate possibility of a wider war in the area with unforeseen and dangerous consequences.”
