Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

There were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Last week's discussion post.

The flag that was raised over the IDF base that was attacked was a red Hezbollah flag. Anyone have any information on its use? Also wondering what the red headbands are? I've used red headbands to ID marxists among the Palestinian forces but I have no idea what groups use red headbands among Hezbollah.

Not sure if this is an old picture or not, for the record.

Actual picture of the flag raised:

And video confirmation:

This was the Al-Rahab military position of the IDF.

EDIT:

Hoisted flag might not be Hezbollah.

‘World War 3 has already started’ between US and Russia/China, argues French scholar

Ben Norton reviews the interview given by the prominent French Scholar, Emmanuel Todd. The interview was in French and published in the major French newspaper ‘Le Figaro’. Emmanuel Todd argues the Ukraine proxy war is the start of WWIII, and is “existential” for both Russia and the US “imperial system”, which has restricted the sovereignty of Europe, making Brussels into Washington’s “protectorate”.

Does anyone have the article where Ben Norton does this? I caught this headline and this article is certainly interesting but I'd like to see his full take.

Looking at weather charts for Gaza and can't see fuck all that could be particularly problematic.

It's either bullshit to misdirect Hamas or it's the US stalling Israel because they want to find a way to calm the situation so they aren't dragged into a war. The US doesn't want this distraction in my honest opinion there is nothing they gain from it.

I'm sure others have already talked about this, but yesterday's Hersh article talks about Israel's upcoming plans:

Essentially, Israeli command is not confident in their ability to fight house to house in Gaza. Instead, they are going to simply flatten northern Gaza, first with a general bombing campaign and then with "bunker buster" bombs that have a supposed half mile kill radius.
I would imagine this will begin as soon as weather permits - it might have started already, if they could.

A picture is worth a thousand words. You could tell none of them like that genocidal ghoul. It's all fun and games talking comparing Palestinians with animals when you're not the one who has to crawl through the tunnels.

For the sake of my sanity I should stop googling guests that are on CNN and MSNBC. The following tweet is by recent guest on MSNBC who is a "man with a deep history in the Middle East". He was on a few minutes ago. I said "should" but I can't stop myself from googling for monsters because I keep finding them and doing so is typically a cakewalk. I only need find a recent ghoulish tweet.

The only solution is to "de-Nazifi" any & all terror leaders in Gaza & @qatar. This requires Israel to decapitate the entire structure & end the ability of Hamas leaders in Doha to operate by any means necessary.

Ukrainians and Israelis are big dick alpha males, they don't give a fuck about shit and kill anything that stands in their way. The USA used to be like that before all the men got injected with soy and we elected a communist who stole the election, Brandon. Now the USA doesn't even want to invade Mexico and do a genocide. As a PUA I'm moving to Tel Aviv so some of the machismo of an IDF general who looks like a bad guy from an 80's action move rubs off on me. I need to break my nu-male conditioning and get my ass into a hustle and grindset like Zelenskyy.

I just had a sickening thought.

Israel flattens Gaza City to the ground. And they say their goal of crushing Hamas "remains to be fulfilled". And then they keep moving south destroying everything in their wake. They keep forcing Palestinians to flee south. And those who can't flee - the old, the sick, the infirm, etc. - are killed.

And every once in a while Israel says "Nope. We aren't done crushing Hamas yet. It's funny how that works, right?" Finally after killing 10,000s the continuing bloodbaths have pushed nearly 2 million terrified and exhausted Palestinians all the way to the open desert at/near the Egyptian border. But - of course - Israel keeps shelling the border guaranteeing they can't get out.

The media has gone on and on about the "difficulties of urban warfare" that the IDF faces. Well, there are no "difficulties of urban warfare" when you're terrorized millions of people and made them flee dozens of miles to the open desert where there's no place to hide and there no longer any place to go. I don't even want to imagine what happens at that point.

13 hostages killed in Israel’s attacks on Gaza Strip, Hamas says. No confirmation from Israel | AP News

Hamas said Israel’s bombardment has killed 13 of the hostages, including foreigners.

It did not give the nationality of the foreigners, saying they were killed over the last 24 hours. There was no immediate Israeli comment.

“Right now, one goal: Nakba! A Nakba that will overshadow the Nakba of 48. Nakba in Gaza and Nakba to anyone who dares to join!” Ariel Kallner, a member of parliament from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud, wrote on social media after the Hamas attack.

Anyone have a link to the direct tweet?

Head of Gaza’s largest hospital says 35,000 people are sheltering in hospital complex

Medical officials say an estimated 35,000 people have crammed into the grounds of Gaza City’s main hospital, seeking refugee ahead of an expected Israeli ground offensive.

Mohammad Abu Selim, general director of Shifa Hospital, confirmed that massive crowds had thronged the building and the courtyard outside. Shifa is the largest hospital in the entire Gaza Strip.

“People think this is the only safe space after their homes were destroyed and they were forced to flee,” said Dr. Medhat Abbas, a Health Ministry official. “Gaza City is a frightening scene of devastation.”

The Israeli military has ordered roughly half of Gaza’s population, including all of Gaza City, to evacuate as it prepares to send in ground forces.

Israel has been bombing Gaza for the past week, killing more than 2,200 so far in response to a cross-border Hamas attack that killed over 1,300 Israelis.

Miller declined to characterize Wang’s response, but said the U.S. believes it and China have a shared interest in Middle East stability.
