Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

MODERATORS

There were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is Palestine! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants. More detail here.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The weekly update is here.

The bulletins site is down.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Add to the above list if you can.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Last week's discussion post.

I hope all those centrists in LGBTQ+ communities are well-aware that if Israel gets away with slaughtering 2.2 million Palestinians, if the "garden", the "international community" turns a blind eye to it, then what's stopping them from turning a blind eye when the far right eventually goes full throttle on trans genocide?

Official Washington: Ukraine's funding rope ends

“You can't start planning for long-term support if you're at the end of your rope. And in financing Ukraine we are coming to the end of the rope. Today we announced $200 million and we will continue to help Ukraine as much as we can, but it will not be indefinitely,” White House spokesman John Kirby said.

As we say, no matter how much the rope twists, it will still end.

Welp they’ve decided Ukraine is all used up gotta go all in on protecting our actually important client state!

BREAKING Reports that Hamas wasn't targeting civilians at the music festival - The IDF were shooting at Hamas FROM the crowd of civilians.

Civilians were caught in the crossfire.

Surprise surprise.

There's a video on the tweet showing IDF troops firing at Hamas near an IDF tank with ravers hiding.

It would be nice if the US media took a break from non-stop interviewing Israeli families with people kidnapped by Hamas. Instead - the media could at least mention Israel's relentless raining death and destruction on Gaza.

Every eyewitness account from friends in #Gaza is the same: Israel's bombing is like nothing they've ever experienced before. No pretense of "targeted strikes" on Hamas, just wanton, indiscriminate destruction of whole neighborhoods. Entire families obliterated in an instant.

"My eldest son is 9, he asked me if he died would he go to heaven or hell?" our @MedicalAidPal friend and colleague Mahmoud Shalabi told us. A thought playing out in the minds of a million children currently under bombardment with no escape. How can any human heart accept this?

A world rightly horrified just a day ago by stories of entire families killed, or huddling terrified together for hours wondering if they would live, is... suddenly absolutely fine with it when it is a different family just a few miles away? How do we account for this?

Argument I seem to be having success with on reddit-logo :

If it's not OK for Hamas to attack Israeli towns just because there are a few soldiers or a tank stationed there, then why is it OK for Israel to level entire apartment buildings to kill one Hamas leader or take out a single rocket battery on a rooftop?

Collective punishment of Palestinian people. A humanitarian crisis. The imminent threat and certainty of worse to come. These are not defensive actions by Israel. These are crimes. On the world's watch.

No equivocating, no "right to defend itself", no straight to the point and calling out the injustice.

Jesus fucking christ I am becoming Jokerified at rates never before observed by science. We've been saying it here for a long time already that the entire west is 99,9% run and inhabited by bloodthirsty fascists and outright nazis, and I've kind of just taken it as a half-serious joke like "haha yeah ikr :p" but FUCK it's literally true isn't it? Ordinary fucking people with ordinary fucking jobs that can barely contain their childlike glee that hundreds of palestinians are going to get vaporized. Friends I thought were solidly progressives both-sidesing this extremely obviously clear-cut opressor vs oppressed conflict. One fucking guy went all mask-off "this conflict is actually rich vs poor and the rothchilds are actually behind it and BOTH SIDES are spreading propaganda and being unruly :smuglord: ". I predict that he is less than two weeks away from becoming full fash. Inshallah may the west fall. Seventy two trillion years of humiliation.

British State Media BBC News says that its journalists were held at gunpoint by Israeli police

spoiler— "BBC journalists covering the attack on Israel were assaulted and held at gunpoint after they were stopped by police in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv.

Muhannad Tutunji, Haitham Abudiab and their BBC Arabic team were driving to a hotel when their car was intercepted.

They were dragged from the vehicle - marked "TV" in red tape - searched and pushed against a wall.

A BBC spokesperson said journalists "must be able to report on the conflict in Israel-Gaza freely".

Mr Tutunji and Mr Abudiab said they identified themselves as BBC journalists and showed police their press ID cards."

Preparations are ongoing for a large humanitarian convoy in defiance of Israel's threats that any such thing would be bombed.

Either it will work and they will ease off, or they will bomb the fuck out of it. I suspect american liberals will still defend it if they do but over here in Europe and the rest of the world it will be indefensible.

Morales welcomed Hamas' actions on the people of Israel and maintained that the policy of the “democratic and cultural revolution” promoted by his administration was “in defense of Palestine.” He then argued that the Foreign Ministry's note “was biased” and reflected “one more sign of the right wing of the Government” of President Luis Arce Catacora.

“The Bolivian people will always condemn the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian Territories, the systematic aggressions against the Palestinian people, and their struggle for independence. Those are the real causes of the conflict, not to denounce them is to be an accomplice,” said Evo on X. He also regretted that the Bolivian Foreign Ministry did “not denounce with political coherence the real situation that the Palestinian people are going through” and condemned “the imperialist and colonial actions of the Zionist Israeli government.” Morales insisted that “solidarity among peoples is the basis of a more just and dignified society,” and questioned that “it is not possible for a government of the Democratic and Cultural Revolution to defend the invasionist and expansionist policy of Israel.”

“When a people defends its sovereignty they call it terrorist. But when the United States finances wars, armed invasions, coups d'état, and assassinations, they speak of democracy,” he underlined.

Breaking 🚨- Mali 🇲🇱 signed a nuclear ☢️ deal with Russia

On Friday October 13th, 2023, on national television, the government announced that they signed two memoranda of understanding with the Russian federation. Here’s what the journalist was reading,

The high-level Malian delegation led by the Minister of Economy and Finance continues his mission in Moscow. Two memoranda of understanding have been signed today, they are about in particular geological research, but also and above all civil nuclear power. Thanks to these memoranda of understanding, Mali will very soon take its first steps in civil nuclear power, with the key being the construction of four 57 megawatt nuclear power plants.

Our country will also be able to have an extra-mining case which will list all the mining substances which exist throughout the entire national territory. During this day, the country's supply of fertilizers for the next agricultural season from Russia was also discussed. The Russian company responsible for the distribution of fertilizers is ready to supply Mali with the full quantities that the country needs as quickly as possible, and to continue our country's supply of wheat. We will come back to this later in full details with our special envoys.”

Alright, folks, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Burkina Faso 🇧🇫, and Mali 🇲🇱 both embark on nuclear energy on the same day. Remember, @CapitaineIb226 said that the federation between our two countries is well in progress and that any state is welcome to join. Now we have Niger on board. It’s important that you know that we have uranium, it’s that we haven’t started mining them yet. I guess those who thought they would control our raw materials ad vitam aeternam are in for a big surprise. We know they are hitting us with terrorism because we said no to them. But that’s not a problem. We’ll settle the score with the terrorists.

Anyway, if uranium is good for Mr colonizer or Mr imperialist, then it’s also good enough for us. The Alliance of Sahel states (AES) are going to work wonders. This is not the generation of our forefathers or our parents, this is our generation. Frantz Fanon said, “Each generation must in a relative opacity discover its mission, fulfill it or betray it.” We have discovered our mission, which is to liberate ourselves from bondage, we will, and we will not betray it. Long live Burkina Faso 🇧🇫- Mali 🇲🇱- Niger 🇳🇪 and long live Africa! A luta continua!

lets-fucking-go lets-fucking-go lets-fucking-go LIBS ONCE AGAIN HAS THE WEST EVER DONE ANYTHING LIKE THIS FOR THEM? NO? THEN SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT RUSSIA BEING "IMPERIALIST"

Incredible to be living through events that, in 50, 70, maybe 100 years from now will be regarded with a similar degree of horror as the Holocaust. People living under communism in 2100 will wonder why we - as in, the mass of humanity living at the time - did nothing about the Palestinian Genocide of 2023. There will be people who get ancestry tests that reveal that they had Israeli settler grandparents and they will feel such intense shame and even try and hide the results. As we describe extremely bad people as "Hitler", they will describe similarly bad people as "Netanyahu", an example of almost superhuman evil. Goebbels and Himmler will have similar comparisons to current Israeli politicians.

Venezuela’s president Nicolas Maduro on Palestine: 'World Has to Say No to the Genocide of Palestinians'.

- "No electricity, no water, no fuel. Total blockade, invasion of Gaza. There, in a small space, live millions of human beings who, for decades, have been bombed, tortured, attacked, persecuted, and martyred. That is the sacred people of Gaza.”

If someone tells you that Hamas seeks the genocide of Jews generally, this is an antisemitic trope.

Officially, Hamas opposes Zionists but actually outlaws violence against non-zionist jews.

This rhetoric conflates jews with zionists, as imperialists and other anti semites love to do.

Article Thirty-One: The Islamic Resistance Movement is a humanistic movement. It takes care of human rights and is guided by Islamic tolerance when dealing with the followers of other religions. It does not antagonize anyone of them except if it is antagonized by it or stands in its way to hamper its moves and waste its efforts.

Under the wing of Islam, it is possible for the followers of the three religions - Islam, Christianity and Judaism - to coexist in peace and quiet with each other. Peace and quiet would not be possible except under the wing of Islam. Past and present history are the best witness to that.

It is the duty of the followers of other religions to stop disputing the sovereignty of Islam in this region, because the day these followers should take over there will be nothing but carnage, displacement and terror. Everyone of them is at variance with his fellow-religionists, not to speak about followers of other religionists. Past and present history are full of examples to prove this fact.

"They will not fight against you in a body, except in fenced towns, or from behind walls. Their strength in war among themselves is great: thou thinkest them to be united; but their hearts are divided. This, because they are people who do not understand." (The Emigration - verse 14). Islam confers upon everyone his legitimate rights. Islam prevents the incursion on other people's rights. The Zionist Nazi activities against our people will not last for long. "For the state of injustice lasts but one day, while the state of justice lasts till Doomsday."

"As to those who have not borne arms against you on account of religion, nor turned you out of your dwellings, Allah forbiddeth you not to deal kindly with them, and to behave justly towards them; for Allah loveth those who act justly." (The Tried - verse 8).

You may notice that they argue that only an Islamic theocracy can bring about religious harmony, so like, Hamas still has terrible and right wing politics, but I wanted to set the record straight on a common bit of rhetoric you're going to see in the wild.

I really have to stress to westerners that there will be no exodus to Egypt or any other Arab country

One of the ironclad laws of Arab bourgeois politics is the halt of Palestinian movement, if even 10,000 Palestinians crossed the border Sisi will literally be couped by the military, he knows this and he hinted as much yesterday

The Israelis are pushing the Arab regimes up against a wall and the Americans with their typical arrogant amnesia aren't paying attention, if this keeps up the regimes are going to be forced to do something really fuckin funny

“They just said, ‘We found Emily, she’s dead,’ and I went, ‘Yes,'” he said.

“I went ‘Yes,’ and smiled because that is the best news of the possibilities that I knew. The best possibility that I was hoping for,” he said.

Hand added that his daughter’s death was better than any other situation that could have happened.

“She was either dead or in Gaza, and if you know anything about what they do to people in Gaza, that is worse than death, that is worse than death,” the grieving father said. “The way they treat you, they have no food, they have no water.”

“She’d be in a dark room with Christ who knows how many people and terrified every minute, hour, day and possible years to come,” he cried out. “So death was a blessing, an absolute blessing.”
