Call me cynical, but I've seen so many of these internet "protests" over the years. I'm just so numb at this point. Nothing ever changes.

Ok guys so get this. we collectively protest and stop using social media for a year I’m pretty sure these tech bros would think different. Just the data they mine alone is worth millions in that ecosystem

“If buying isn’t owning, then pirating isn’t stealing.”

Pirating still wouldn't be stealing if buying was owning, dipshits. Copying something is not theft.

The implication of this statement that it IS stealing in other circumstances pisses me off

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I pirate everything

Tryna figure how to pirate free DATA any thoughts?

Internet should be free. I thought these solar panels were supposed to change things! done nothing but take from our pockets. More bills!

[-] [email protected] 14 points 1 day ago

Pirating is a radical as it gets for these comfortable children.

[-] [email protected] 43 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

to be fair this one is kind of a counter-slogan to the corporations pushing that piracy is theft.

the point is moot anyway because ai companies keep pirating shit to train their llms without consequence.

[-] [email protected] 18 points 2 days ago

Does this mean claiming that your brain is an LLM would serve as a legal defense to piracy?

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

Probably depends on how rich you are whether that will work lol

“When a company CEO logs into their Slack and sees 10,000 Clippys looking back at them, what I hope occurs is that they intuitively understand that they no longer live in a world where they can get away with f*cking over the consumer.”

if nobody calls for a boycott or any other action that hurts the bottom line, then this is just virtue signalling based on the flawed assumption that the companies would actually give a shit if some users changed their profile picture but did nothing else, should've used this opportunity to focus on BDS instead

Liberal action is always "if we make the kings feel slightly uncomfortable, they'll completely stop being awful to us." it's complete nonsense

[-] [email protected] 39 points 2 days ago

When you get your theory of political action from The Grinch

[-] [email protected] 38 points 2 days ago

I dunno, taking all my enemies stuff and throwing it off a mountain seems pretty cool

"When mi'lord sees how pitiful we are, he'll quit taking 4/5ths of our harvest"

[-] [email protected] 31 points 2 days ago

At most, a corporation might decide to adjust its messaging around AI somewhat

[-] [email protected] 15 points 2 days ago

Or disable PFP’s, or do like the Disney streaming app where you select one PFP out of an assortment of choices. As long as folks are willing to stay on the platform, Corpo’s got lots of options

[-] [email protected] 64 points 2 days ago

loser internet protest, they're still going to complain about linux not giving them treats and install Windows 12 anyway.

Louis Rossman is a chud libertarian who lives in texas, it was doomed from the start.

[-] [email protected] 39 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

lmao @ supporting right-to-repair and capitalism at the same time. Damn I wonder why everything is getting enshittified, must be the woke mob

[-] [email protected] 16 points 2 days ago

Looking for the one true capitalist who balances profit and quality (shhh dont tell them where the profit part came from)

[-] [email protected] 29 points 2 days ago

Lmao he moved to Texas? What a moron.

[-] [email protected] 14 points 2 days ago

He moved to Texas because he got mad about New York City taxes and commercial rent

[-] [email protected] 64 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The “right to repair” activist compared changing your PFP to Clippy to the Sons of the Harpy movement in Game of Thrones, season five

LMAO wasn't that an insurgency to reinstate literal slavery?!

[-] [email protected] 44 points 2 days ago

Well, Dany became a bad guy at the end and therefore everyone who was ever against her became retroactively correct. liberalism

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The book was right on this thing: killing all slaveowners is a prerequisite of any decent statebuilding.

[-] [email protected] 14 points 2 days ago

And those dudes were actually killing people, not just putting on dumb masks

[-] [email protected] 59 points 2 days ago

CEO's quaking in their boots over a fuckin jpg, im sure

[-] [email protected] 32 points 2 days ago

that will show em

[-] [email protected] 27 points 2 days ago

EPIC WIN

owned like a boss 😎

[-] [email protected] 48 points 2 days ago

surely corporations will change their ways if we just ask! they just dont know we dont like this!

this will be as effective as changing your pfp to the ukraine flag was

[-] [email protected] 44 points 2 days ago

Not the comparison you'd want to make.

reminds me of that stick figure meme protest when google disabled youtube comments in favor of having to use their shitty social network to post them.

everyone hated it. everyone kept using the service and eventually forgot it was even a thing.

stop using that garbage if you don't like invasive age verification. let them feel the pressure of losing their users in an entire country. no one fucking NEEDS social media.

the fact most people cave to it is ridiculous at best, considering how bad it actually is.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago

"Bob's Army against Google+" is what umbrella is referring to, it's a beautiful piece of nonsensical archeological artifact of the early 2010s..

When Google+ was eventually shut down, I think people genuinely believe it was a result of copying-pasting this ASCII art everywhere lol...

This was the same year or so when a bombing took place in France or something and Facebook had a filter option to layer the Fr*nch flag on your pfp in solidarity......... while some people understandably asked why the Syrian flag was nowhere to be seen.. In any case this is the extent of Western protests, no treats were harmed in the process..

[-] [email protected] 29 points 2 days ago

What makes me even more cynical is the amount of those clippy "protestors" i saw under a video of a guy making a mix network, calling it a "new internet" and ending up just having ai generated specs.

And criticism gets met with shit like this:

[-] [email protected] 41 points 2 days ago

Pretty sure this Louis Rossmann person was way late to the party but maybe @[email protected] can elaborate

[-] [email protected] 33 points 2 days ago

Clippy says death to apartheid

[-] [email protected] 25 points 2 days ago

Thank you, Clippy!

[-] [email protected] 37 points 2 days ago

He’s a chud anyway.

[-] [email protected] 15 points 2 days ago

go see the original video, they're doing it because of game of thrones mask scene

[-] [email protected] 29 points 2 days ago

Reminds me of when people were copying some spiel about how FB could not use any of their pictures etc. without their consent.

[-] [email protected] 29 points 2 days ago

Is it just me or was clippy objectively awful? I have zero warm and fuzzy feelings for that little shit.

[-] [email protected] 19 points 2 days ago

It’s clippy revisionism, the nerds shit all over clippy when Microsoft forced him in there. Nobody really even remembers clippy outside of memes.

[-] [email protected] 16 points 2 days ago

I'm pretty sure the only reason Clippy exists is because the tech was originally developed for Microsoft Bob and that was a huge flop, so they had to use it for something.
