One time I watched Friends while high, and I getting freaked out thinking I broke my brain because I couldn't understand the jokes. There would be laugh track after laugh track and I was just like, why??? I don't get it!!!! What is happening to me??

And then I saw it again while sober and was like oh, it's actually not funny, I was fine.

I tried watching Friends but all I saw were enemies.

[-] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 39 points 2 years ago

Friends is just the 90s version of the big bang theory change my mind

[-] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago

What were bazinga amerikans called before the big bang?

[-] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago

Apparently metrosexual was a thing? But they was for guys that actually washed their clothes and ass. Not really a Bazinga type person.

Have you tried laughing along with the laugh track?

[-] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 34 points 2 years ago

Even as a teen I found it incredibly sus that Friends takes place in one of the most diverse places on earth and there isn't a single PoC main character.

[-] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 34 points 2 years ago

So no one warned you FRIENDS was gonna be this way

The vibes are bad, so sad, the jokes are anti-gay

[-] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago

michael-laugh perfect!

I'm suprised people still talk about this show

It did not age well.

[-] Moss@hexbear.net 28 points 2 years ago

Once my old roommate was like "hey you should watch the office, it's so funny" and then he put on an episode while I was cooking and made that face the entire time. He didn't laugh once and neither did I. I hate the office so much it's not funny at all

[-] RNAi@hexbear.net 19 points 2 years ago

It happened the same to me but with Rick & Morty

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago

I was introduced to Rick and Morty multiple times over several years by well meaning friends, usually from "this clip will hook you for sure!" moments, and those moments ranged from making me unhappy, to disgusted, to questioning whether I wanted to still be friends with the person after that.

The Office is one of the primordial spirits of Reddit that possesses Redditors when they post terrible takes.

Throw in Arrested Development and I agree 100%

[-] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago

Arrested Development is the only sitcom I've watched in its entirety more than once (meaning all 3 seasons, shame they never made more)

It's a shame more people didn't see Better Off Ted. Only got 2 seasons and it's one of my favorites

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 17 points 2 years ago

Broken clock moment. The show sucks.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 20 points 2 years ago

I feel the exact same way about Seinfeld. Yes yes, it's totally the origin of so many shows that came after it that I also feel the same way about. I hated Seinfeld in the 90s, and I hate the show now. disgost

FYI, posting Discord links with ?ex in the middle will expire at some point, so in future you should copy/save the image and reupload to Hexbear so the post is preserved for future viewers.

Probably depends on when you were born for some part of it. I think it's hilarious but I was born in 82

[-] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 19 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

79 here, it is shit. Always was. Just absolute garbage.

[-] daisy@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago

I was born in 1980 and I think Friends is insufferable.

I am older than you, then, and I hate the show.

I can relate to this for a lot of shows, it might be that I'm autistic but a lot of humor hits differently or not at all for me. I find different things funny to other people.

[-] Cherufe@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago

I have a soft spot for friends since it was the first american sitcom I watched but I will propably never rewatch it

On the other hand I hated Seinfeld as a teen and now I am a Larry David character

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 13 points 2 years ago

honestly the only modern US sitcom i truly despise is two and a half men but i've never met anyone who likes that show so i wouldn't call it overrated.

[-] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago

I liked it, but I enjoyed specifically the level of Flanderization that turned everyone into another Charlie Sheen. Basically like Always Sunny, but way worse in every way. Suuuper transphobic, too.

it is known

[-] largerfather@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

no one’s ever told me omg i have to watch friends joever

[-] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

Only watched it because it was the show that came on before the Simpsons. Never laughed once but I had a small crush on Lisa Kudrow

[-] DickFuckarelli@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

The 90s were terrible for sitcoms, and most have aged horribly. The only 90s primetime show I genuinely still laugh at is Get a Life.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 20 points 2 years ago

Gay person exists or is implied to maybe exist

Hexbears, I must confess my liberalism - sometimes I throw on Seinfeld for background noise. Comfort slop, if you will.

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago

Seinfeld is good

[-] shroobinator@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 2 years ago

The communist guy that Elaine dated was based though
