People in the news mega were saying how exposing the planes to mercury would completely fuck up the planes since the planes are made out of aluminum. Hope the paint has some mercury in them.

They used repurposed fire extinguishers to blast red paint into the jet engines so they were at least trying to do serious damage

Gotta balance the line between decomissioning the plane (it'll need inspection and possible repairs) and not getting a billion years in prison if you're caught.
Judging by the government and military officials cited in the article, whomever did this will get billion years in jail anyway.
