Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

I'm getting to the point where I find conversations that boil down to "White Supremacy is bad" is getting really tiring. It's like a solved equation. Yes it's bad, but at a certain point we need to begin to think new thoughts. I just don't want to hear another PoC tell me that "and the reason why XYZ is bad, is because of racism" OF COURSE IT IS DUDE! WHAT THE FUCK NOW!?! WHAT DO WE DO? HOW DO WE MOVE PAST THIS IN SOME WAY?

I guess i'm just tired of having racism explained to me. I feel like hades.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 hours ago

I think part of it might just be that there are people who legit just don't think its a thing and therefore they just get used to telling people white supremacy is bad.

Which reminds me of a conversation two of my coworkers were having. I didn't really catch quite everything that was said, but to summarize one coworker (conservative POC) was talking about how an older POC woman was debating him on ideas of relationships and family building. Her argument seemed to have ended with "gender roles and the idea of traditional families is rooted in white supremacy" to paraphrase his paraphrasing of it lol. And my other coworker (liberal or at least more lib leaning POC) agreed with him that that was a weird position to have. I kept wonder if the woman that brought up white supremacy even attempted to explain why that is, so I kept wanting to jump in on the conversation to explain a bit, but I was busy talking with someone else about something work related so I ended up not being able to.

Anyway, what I want to say is that there are still a lot of people who can't make the connection and my hope is that people who bring up "thing is bad because of white supremacy" can educate people on why. For example, in this case if the person making that argument didn't really have the time to explain why white supremacy informs a lot of conservative opinions on gender roles and trad families then at the very least recommend reading someone like Bell Hooks, who I think pretty eloquently lays it all out, especially in Will To Change.

Of course I can also see the hang up possibly coming from trying to explain what we do about it because a lot of the same people that say this also end up being massive libs who thouth that the US having a black president was going to change things and the only reason it didn't was because racists got more racist and not that Obama was upholding one wing of American fascism.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

My frustration is often with liberals who don't understand racists revel in their racism, don't care about hypocrisy, and think we can simply explain how racism is bad will change the racists' minds. We all know this shit and we've known for decades. They know and don't care. They actively decide they'd rather steal shit and hurt people.

And even worse is they think if we change whoever is on top, it will end racism. Libs will advocate for this immediately after they've mentioned systemic racism.

Hampton said it best: you don't fight white supremacy with black supremacy. You fight it with socialism. But liberals wouldn't be liberals if they advocated for communism, which they equate with fascism.

(I definitely think I just did the thing you mentioned in explaining racism lol...hope it's not too irritating)

Nah you’re good. You at least end with Hampton. Hampton as you’re closer is never a bad thing 😀

A clip of me practicing unclean vocals...

I usually don't share clips of me doing any vocals because I'm not too confident in 'em, but I'm learning a lot. I teach myself everything I know musically, including songwriting, playing instruments, and vocals.

This is the bridge of Metallica's song "Blackened," which isn't originally sung unclean because James Hetfield doesn't do unclean, but I think it works well in this style.

I'm still trying to get used to my style of unclean vocals, but I really like the low, guttural sound I've learned to achieve.

Angel’s posts have inspired me to try and restart my journey into veganism. I was recommended a vegan diet by my doctor because of hereditary high cholesterol that’s been the cause of death for most of the men in my family. I started off okay but found it hard because I’m in a small rural town where beef is a huge part of life and the culture is still trying to understand vegetarianism, let alone Veganism. Seeing Angel’s posts have made me want to try again.

I figure it’s worth a trip to the city for some ingredients I can’t grow myself or find locally. There’s also more options than I thought because I recently learned vegan options have become more common because of new mothers requesting them.

soviet-bottom I'm glad to hear about my impact here. I really hope it goes well for you. If you need any assistance about food or even anything else (like clothing or hygiene), let me know. Care-Comrade

[–] [email protected] 5 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Happy B-Day! What ingredients do you use for plant-based cake? I’ve been trying to learn more vegan recipes.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 19 hours ago

I'm not actually having a plant-based cake... I was just joking that the emoji is plant-based lol 😅

Nothing describes American culture better than the racist American president saying happy cinco de mayo while pushing racist shit against latino folks

[–] [email protected] 14 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Too real... and I hate that it's real, but that don't make it any less real

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You'd think they'd get it, being women, and understand white people treat non-white people the way men treat women. Hahaahahaaa nope! You'll hear all kinds of awful, homophobic, transphobic, racist shit come out of white women's mouths when they think it's safe to do so, just like their male counterparts.

We need an emoji for that hexbear who said something like "whiteness is the black hole all liberalism, reaction, and bigotry orbits."

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I find that white marginalized people often have this awful tendency to use their marginalized identity to make themselves total victims while avoiding all accountability for their complicity in white supremacy. I've gotten plenty of shit from white cishet men, of course, but I've also experienced totally disgusting bigotry and reactionary shit from white women, white gay people, white trans people, etc. I literally couldn't say this more strongly: I am Black before anything else.

Have Black people been hateful towards me? Absolutely! No group of people, of course, comprises entirely of perfect saints who are devoid of a capacity for reactionary brainworms. In fact, with that in mind, I don't have a family anymore because of this, but despite that, I'd take being in a room FULL of cishet Black people over being in a tiny circle of white queer people. I'm dead fucking serious.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

I'll take my chances with a group of random PoC before I'd trust the white half of my family. They'll say the wildest shit when I'm standing right in front of them that makes me wonder what they say when I'm not around to push back.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And white trans women are the white women of trans women

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago

Can confirm this TOO much.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

I did an updated remix of my heaviest song, The Ultimate Fate of the Universe.

I think my production skills are getting less shitty... heh.

Carne de soya goes pretty hard, for the price and the shelf life love this stuff. Growing up I thought this was alright but now that I know how to cook second to beans it's my top tier protein

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

For me, it's been chickpeas... that's been my top tier protein. Can't go wrong with that, but I love tofu and TVP, too!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

chickpea wanted to say made some chickpea burger and prob like them better than bean burgers now

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago

I love me some chickpeas, that aqua faba is such a good addition for other things or as a thickener.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Basically my mom would make shrimp cocktail but instead of shrimp she made it with carne de soya instead. We still called it shrimp cocktail even if it didn't have any shrimp

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

lol, like eggcreams

no eggs, nor cream

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

Yeah exactly unironically even izutsumi-idea

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

exclusioni hate that i have roots from everywhere but i'm welcome nowhere. ostracized from my arab country because i'm only half-native, would be ostracized from russia because i'm not slavic and my skin is brown, i'd be ostracized from the only central asian country i have ties to because of their growing russophobia. also precluded from having a good life in all 3 of those countries because of trans.

anyway learning chinese and fucking off there just so i can add one more country to this lovely ostracismlist.

I never knew you were POC and ethnic minority but welcome :07:

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Thanks

I guess it was easier to clock me on my prev account because I'd occasionally interact with the arabic speakers on the news mega, but that doesn't happen anymore since they all left

[–] [email protected] 14 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Several of the people who said the egg prices were too high are funding that racist trash who called an autistic kid the N word and several similar cases talm bout "standing up to these communities". Hows that economic anxiety going? This ain't a surprise. The cop in France who killed the muslim Nahel Merzouk raisraised 1.6 million and it was started by far right politician.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 days ago

Life’s been good lately. Not everything’s perfect - far from it.

But I like how things are going right now. There’s progress and can’t expect much more than that.

I decided to give an admittedly somewhat rushed effort at properly mixing the first song I ever wrote.

It's like a suite with 3 movements. I rewrote the first movement entirely. At first, it sounded a whole lot different, but I revised it because that was really the first full piece I ever wrote, and I thought it could've sounded so much better.

This is it.

  • First Movement: 0:00 - 2:02
  • Second Movement: 2:03 - 5:09
  • Third Movement: 5:10 - 7:27

Every Islamophobia wave has whites cry about suicide bombing as if it's the worst crime imaginable, exactly what's the difference between suicide bombing a bus and air striking that bus? Assholes watch liveleak footage of western helicopters mowing down rows of civilians and are unphased and make movies glorifying it then they give Muslims the stereotype of being the bombers.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 5 days ago

The double standard is the point. Remember that whites aren't consistent, they are nasty little hypocrites who will take every opportunity to demean minorities while praising their own for the same behaviour. Israel and Ukraine have been the most transparent examples of this, but there are countless others in everyday life.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 week ago

Truth is that the west an America never cared about queer rights, they made the Arab leaders strip dance for israel, yet they still permit them to kill gay people.

Latinoamerican tiktok is making fun of the spaniards for their reaction during their big blackout, like they were panic buying essencials, some went to the streets scared that they wont have light again calling it a "historical event" and doomsday posting a lot.

it was really funny, specially since it lasted like 6 hours

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 week ago (2 children)

So relieved Spaniards destroyed the land of my people, its cultures, and environment only to make infrastructure that doesn't work. Really, I hope it worth the millions of bodies and centuries of oppression 🥰

Pretty wild seeing cracker putting "I'm legally here" in their dating profiles.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I remember pre-BLM when White women used to have in their profiles "I'm not racist but I don't date Blacks or Mexicans, sorry, it's just cultural differences" then years later see the same profile floating around post-BLM and it was missing the disclaimer. Haha

Like Paul Mooney said, I like my crackers a little salty. I prefer they just announce it, not that I'm interested in dating anyone White anyway.
