Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

I'm getting to the point where I find conversations that boil down to "White Supremacy is bad" is getting really tiring. It's like a solved equation. Yes it's bad, but at a certain point we need to begin to think new thoughts. I just don't want to hear another PoC tell me that "and the reason why XYZ is bad, is because of racism" OF COURSE IT IS DUDE! WHAT THE FUCK NOW!?! WHAT DO WE DO? HOW DO WE MOVE PAST THIS IN SOME WAY?

I guess i'm just tired of having racism explained to me. I feel like hades.

My frustration is often with liberals who don't understand racists revel in their racism, don't care about hypocrisy, and think we can simply explain how racism is bad will change the racists' minds. We all know this shit and we've known for decades. They know and don't care. They actively decide they'd rather steal shit and hurt people.

And even worse is they think if we change whoever is on top, it will end racism. Libs will advocate for this immediately after they've mentioned systemic racism.

Hampton said it best: you don't fight white supremacy with black supremacy. You fight it with socialism. But liberals wouldn't be liberals if they advocated for communism, which they equate with fascism.

(I definitely think I just did the thing you mentioned in explaining racism lol...hope it's not too irritating)

Nah you’re good. You at least end with Hampton. Hampton as you’re closer is never a bad thing 😀

I think part of it might just be that there are people who legit just don't think its a thing and therefore they just get used to telling people white supremacy is bad.

Which reminds me of a conversation two of my coworkers were having. I didn't really catch quite everything that was said, but to summarize one coworker (conservative POC) was talking about how an older POC woman was debating him on ideas of relationships and family building. Her argument seemed to have ended with "gender roles and the idea of traditional families is rooted in white supremacy" to paraphrase his paraphrasing of it lol. And my other coworker (liberal or at least more lib leaning POC) agreed with him that that was a weird position to have. I kept wonder if the woman that brought up white supremacy even attempted to explain why that is, so I kept wanting to jump in on the conversation to explain a bit, but I was busy talking with someone else about something work related so I ended up not being able to.

Anyway, what I want to say is that there are still a lot of people who can't make the connection and my hope is that people who bring up "thing is bad because of white supremacy" can educate people on why. For example, in this case if the person making that argument didn't really have the time to explain why white supremacy informs a lot of conservative opinions on gender roles and trad families then at the very least recommend reading someone like Bell Hooks, who I think pretty eloquently lays it all out, especially in Will To Change.

Of course I can also see the hang up possibly coming from trying to explain what we do about it because a lot of the same people that say this also end up being massive libs who thouth that the US having a black president was going to change things and the only reason it didn't was because racists got more racist and not that Obama was upholding one wing of American fascism.
