Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) traveled to El Salvador on Wednesday, but officials refused to let him visit an erroneously deported Maryland man who the Supreme Court has ordered returned to the United States.

Because he's dead

Ramirez, in a letter to House Homeland Security Committee chair Mark Green (R-Tenn.) first obtained by Axios, requested he authorize an official CODEL to El Salvador.

Given that the Administration's use of CECOT for illegal and unconstitutional deportations is rife with 'administrative errors' ... I urgently request a CODEL to conduct oversight," she wrote.

The song Hotel California comes to mind here.

Reps. Jason Smith (R-Mo.) and Riley Moore (R-W.Va.) both shared photos of themselves at the notorious maximum security prison on Wednesday in posts on X praising the administration's deportation policies.

I can't even.....WTF

The delegation will not be allowed to see him or take his body back. Because no matter this guy’s status, it’s in the best interest of many that he never be seen again.

But the politicians going there will make pretty speeches which will have zero insight about how to stop others from meeting the same fate.

Perhaps those in congress, while making regular trips back and forth to help him and others, can be supported by public contributions, or even help for their campaigns later? Not that they would ask, of course. But others have, I have seen it.

All the politicians making a profit from this should give a percentage to his family, it’s only fair

Are you trying to sell this hopelessness?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The road to fascism is lined with people telling you to stop overreacting.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's also lined with people on social media telling you resistance is futile and that nothing anyone does matters.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

Y'all aren't getting it.

That's not discouraging, it's radicalizing. We must be realistic and demand the impossible. There is no other way.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Well, its no fairy tale with a happy ending. Unless you are selling happy endings ? My way is more honest

I think all of congress should be required to go to El Salvadore, as well as trump and all of his cabinet.

Anyone who thinks things are fine there, should have to stay there for one week... then be brought back ASAP.

Exactly, brought back as quickly as we can bring back people who are sent there by mistake.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Oh... So that's what they mean when they say the can't bring him back. It's been there, out in the open, all this time.

Have the democrats considered getting together and coming up with a plan together? Just a thought. Couldn’t hurt.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 week ago

Good, I hope they are able to bring more attention to this. Its nice to know that some US politicians haven't given up

If you're wondering from exactly where in IL, 3rd District.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Any time I see any of the congressional districts in this county I just get so filled with rage.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 week ago

County or country? Eh, doesn't matter.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

There's no fucking point to this...

They go there, the Salvadorian government says "unkindly go fuck yourselves." The press propagandist says "the Democrats have no shame! They are wasting your tax money to go try to free an ms-13 CRIMINAL!" And the stupid fucks of this shithole country eat it up...

It's all downsides.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Of course there is a point to it. Don’t be obtuse.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I am sorry to have to ask this, but what is the point? To me it just seems like theatre.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You are so right. We should just leave it be and make no noise.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

No, the question is what does a dem senitor going to el Salvador do? No where was it suggested to "leave it be and make no noise".

Urgh this is why your stupid two party system is causing the states downfall. A senator has near zero ability to do anything on their own, even less so outside of thier nation. This would have been a good time to flex some military muscle, but the villain here is your commander in chef.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

You are so close to getting it.

Damn right it’s theater. People are watching

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

It keeps the story alive.
