a bench warrant was issued for Sullivan.

There you go. Go after the little people. Put them in prison. They're committing crimes, kidnapping and battery among others. Tackle them and put cuffs on them. Let their defense team explain how they were acting under legal authority, what statutes were involved, where their warrant was.

I understand that things have gone insane on the federal level, but they're still committing crimes in municipal places.

In a perfect world, we could impeach Trump for causing these things to happen, but it's still absolutely possible to interfere with the actual people who are committing crimes in order to implement the stuff.

Lets see how the different branches of law enforcement handle it. If they collectively disregard the judicial branch, we're officially fucked.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Actually, they're fucked. If cops start ignoring judges, citizens can start ignoring cops. If there is no law backing the law enforcement, then they're nothing but armed terrorists and should be dealt with accordingly. Id LOVE to see ICE try some shit in LA or Fresno.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If cops start ignoring judges, citizens can start ignoring cops.

A tightly knit, professionally trained, ideologically uniform organization is going to be a bigger danger to the public at large than a random subset of disorganized dissidents will be to the police.

Id LOVE to see ICE try some shit in LA or Fresno.

While it would be extremely entertaining to see ICE stumble dick first into an LA County Deputies Gang, they are more likely to find common cause than conflict given that they're both fascist af.

"Professionally trained" buddy these freaks mag dump on acorns falling off trees.

The one thing working 6 months for the USCG taught me was how thin a line the government operates on. Even at the pseudomilitary level with all the funding DHS can provide, boats barely function, equipment barely runs, and maintainence is almost always pushed back due to budget. 80% of their shit is falling apart and the 20% that isn't is in some management's office and hasn't been used by anyone competent since acquisition.

As far as I'm concerned, any government run organization is maybe 4 weeks away from folding like a lawn chair. I really, REALLY don't think the odds are great of a perfect fascist cleansing taking less than a month in this country.

[–] [email protected] 75 points 1 day ago

no more fucking secret police, contempt the whole organization

ICE alleges that Martell-Lebron is really named Juan Carlos Baez and is originally from the Dominican Republic.

Yeah, that's almost definitely a lie.

He allegedly entered the U.S. illegally in 2000, ICE said.

And even if it wasn't, he's been in the country for a quarter of a century without causing any trouble beyond allegedly lying on application.

If those standards were applied to native born Americans, Washington would be a ghost town.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

From the article:

Martell-Lebron was found guilty of two counts of trafficking cocaine and one count of trafficking heroin in Middlesex Superior Court in 2009, court documents show. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison after already serving a little less than two years while awaiting trial.

He got out in ~~2000~~ 2020. So "a decade of not causing any trouble" is technically true, but only because he was already in prison.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nope, 2020, fat fingers, I'll edit.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Makes sense

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

*century, not decade, presumably

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Thanks, fixed it 😁

[–] [email protected] 104 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I wonder how long it will be until one of these supposed "plainclothes agents" is shot. Part of the reason that cops wear uniforms is that it make it clear to the public that when they're grabbing someone off the street it isn't a kidnapping.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 day ago

Tbf, they can still be in uniform and it can be a kidnapping.

Qualified immunity notwithstanding.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 day ago

They might get away with it in a low firearm state like NY, but if they're in Florida, and a bunch of guys try to drag away a screaming woman, they might find themselves catching bullets.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago

Makes me wonder how many of these kidmappings have happened in red states.

[–] [email protected] 120 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

If it wasn't already abundantly clear, the current administration gives zero fucks about the judiciary.

[–] [email protected] 41 points 2 days ago (3 children)

They must care about it a bit considering they want to abolish it and replace it with whatever Trump says goes.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's the same reason dictators love elections: they appoint the people who run them to wrap the dictators actions in a veil of fake approval and oversight. It's just rubber stamping fascism.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Eliminating elections would not harm dictators. Elections, like all democratic institutions need to be maintained and supported to maintain a democracy.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I feel you misunderstood. North Korea has elections. Russia has elections. Syria under Assas had elections. Strangely, the dictators always won by huge margins. Many dictators have a farce of a democracy to both give the people they rule a veneer of hope of freedom and to muddy the waters on the international stage.

Stalin had elections in Soviet Russia but he made it clear he didn't care who voted. He cared about who counted the votes. Once the democratic institutions are subverted and their independence destroyed by a leader that leader gets to choose who sits in the seats: judges, legislators, bureaucrats, officers, and especially elections officials.

You're right about the citizens being responsible for defending the institutions. In the end, the ultimate responsibility for the health of the republic lies with the people, not the government. The US does not understand just how much we have failed to defend the republic and we are on the verge of losing it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

I understood your statement, but the underlying connotation was "elections are bad". Elections can be fair. Unfair elections can be restored, but not easily.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

Option A: have a real court that judges against you and points out all the crimes you commit.

Option B: A court that judges in your favor and makes up rules to support your actions after the fact.

Hmm, which court does a dictator want?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Baby steps.

This is just the start.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Looks like flying leaps from where I sit.

After dismissing the jurors, Summerville also permanently dismissed the Suffolk County District Attorney’s case against Martell-Lebron due to prosecutorial misconduct.

Good.

I'm gonna guess the "suspect" was just trying to get by for his family, as most "illegals" are really doing. Just trying to get by.

And after they've deported so many people who've come to the country to work hard and pay the taxes that American billionaires aren't, when employers can't find anyone to fill jobs, they'll just spin up the lie of young people not wanting to work, rather than recognize the contributions of hardworking immigrants to American society.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

young people not wanting to work,

Some of the lowest unemployment numbers in US History, but young people still "don't want to work".

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Young people not wanting to work minimum wage jobs that don't pay enough for basic necessities" is probably more apt.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Which goes back to high participation.

I'm forced to question whether the fixation on AI and naked attempted art crashing the economy are explicitly intended to force more people down into unskilled service and agriculture jobs.

[–] [email protected] 90 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Video of the abduction. Good on the people of Boston for shouting them down in the street. Looks like some ICE goons without masks this time.

The coopting of Norse culture is sad and fucked up, ~~but I'd bet dollars to donuts home dude in the pagan hoodie is an all out white supremacist.~~

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Guy in the pagan hoodie was just a bystander. No?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That group of guys walking away after the car pulls away were plain clothed officers. At least thats what it looks like to me.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The guy with the short woman by his side? Are you sure?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

Absolutely not, I'm a random speculating wildly over here. I thought that was the dude with the sunglasses with his back to the car. Rewatching he has different pants.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 day ago

Lock. His. Fucking. Ass. Up.

Let’s see how am ICE agent fares in gen pop.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 day ago

give him 90 days in gen pop.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 days ago

James Borghesani, a spokesperson for the Suffolk County DA, said in a statement that they were “dismayed and surprised” when Martell-Lebron was detained. He said their office asked ICE to return Martell-Lebron.

I'm sure they'll drop him right back off at the courthouse if all the kindhearted prosecutors do is ask nicely. /s

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 days ago

Just rename ICE to SA at this point.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 days ago

Judge Mark Summerville should be awarded the Medal of Honor.

(I know it's specifically for military members but in this case there should be an exemption.)
