Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

FAQ

I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?

What can I post?

Apologies if this is inappropriate or too judgemental, but I think it's a huge shame that frauddog deleted null's account. I can't speak for everybody, but I'm more than willing to share a space with someone who can show the necessary growth from having signed to be an imperialist soldier. But by deleting the account now the community will think of void as a coward and will be suspicious of any new users who are appropriately combative to cracker nonsense on this site. If you're reading this, and plan on ever coming back, please say who you are and do some self crit. We need your posts, but we also need some transparency.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Wait what happened? Why did null delete their account? Sounds like I missed something.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Null had talked about being in the US military before, but it hadn't really been discussed much. But when null called an user here a settler/cracker (can't remember which, comment is deleted now) and that user replied by saying they live in a country that the US military invaded frauddog deleted the account.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

Ah. Seems like an extreme reaction, but okay. Thanks!

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 week ago

Agreed. This goes back to a few of the recent struggle sessions, but I had pointed out a couple of times that if someone can show actual growth from their past selves then that's someone I'd be willing to accept. No one has a straight path to becoming a comrade. Many people here, including myself, used to be Democrats/liberals and have their views over time. There are people here who used to be reactionary and have been able to move on from that time.

For a bloomer moment β€” I've met several awesome communists of color this past year. Hoping to get to talk to them even more next year!

Some dipshit submitted a FOIA request on Hexbear. Imagine not being socialized to view any willful interaction with pigs as snitching.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 week ago

I thought they were joking in the title until I opened the thread and saw the screenshot. Holy fuck. The person who made the request is totally that fucking kid who reminded the teacher to assign homework.

We joke about feds on here, but until we actually find proof of feds, you don't need to do anything that would attract their attention.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago

And then the site went down for hours...

Hate feeling like I’m part of the most hated racial demographic in the west, and I know other POC feel isolated and alienated like this but I’m always looking for solidarity with people IRL but never seem to get it.

Like, I’m sure my mental health plays into but I feel like I’m always alone on an island and have to fend for myself. My race gets it from all sides and unfortunately people within my race, at least in the US, are for the most part mentally colonized by white supremacy which is further alienatinv because I can’t seem to relate to any of them

Feel like I am literally everything and anything (negative) to everybody. I’m either looked down on because I’m perceived as too poor, or an uppity n- for being percieved as too rich and educated because of ethnicity. My people are either taking away good jobs or they’re just poor leeches on society depending on who you talk to. I’m either a person capable of SA and murder or an effete weakling. I’m assumed to be a criminal or a literal member of the ruling elite. I’m a nerd that gets racially abused in typical nerd circles or a n- that gets abused in in other circles

It feels like I’m never part of the in-group in any situation. I’m always someone’s enemy. It would be relieving if this was β€˜all in my head’ and I’m only subjecting myself to these narratives as a coping/defense mechanism meant to not only protect me but feed my own ego but I don’t want a life of estrangement, and loneliness.

I'm a minority within a minority. A child of immigrants to a country that is itself a colony to an imperial power.

My upgringing could have been a lot worse and the same goes for my life, but I swear to god if I make it through life without doing serious harm to myself it will be a small miracle.

I can relate to this a lot, with islamophobia in the place of the more overt racism you face. All my family are libs or deeply reactionary Muslim chuds, there’s so few progressive pan-Arab forces left

On the one hand i have the ignorant racist kkkrackers and then on the other I have Islamists.

Like attracts like, and I guess the West attracts the gusanos that Nasser rightly cracked down upon.

I don't have much substantial to say but just as a reminder (since the tags are no longer visible) I believe frauddogg's pronouns are null/void and none/username if I'm remembering correctly

In the relatively short time I have been on this website, I do not think a week has passed without at least one "struggle session".

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

vent post: family issues, ableism, anti-masking, anti-veganismReally hoping that I can move out in 2025 because my mom is increasingly pushing me to do things that are detrimental to my health. She thinks that my physical disability is mainly a mental issue (it's not) and that I can overcome it by exercising (I can't, my condition gets worse if I overexert myself) and that I need to stop being vegan to cure it (not going to happen). Also none of my family are COVID-cautious and my mom is forcing me to take off my mask around them just because she doesn't like seeing me wearing a mask.

Moving out is going to be a struggle though. Last year I temporarily moved out (well, there's a bit more to it than that but yeah) but eventually had to return because I didn't have a good plan, I was jumping around and it was tough. And with my disability worsening significantly this past year it's going to be even harder. Maybe even impossible. But I have to try.

So yeah, I'm going into the new year with a lot of stress. I don't know what's going to happen, really. All I know is living with my parents is not sustainable in the long term.

I don't post in this mega often, but I know from lurking around that you're the coolest people here 😎 The crackers are at it again, and I share a lot of the pessimism I see in this thread rn, but I also wanna say that having been here with this community since its inception, I've seen many, many, many struggle sessions (and instigated a few of them myself... im-vegan ) and this community genuinely has improved and grown incrementally each time in a positive direction. Obviously it sucks that we have to have these learning moments in the first place, and the pace at each change occurs is slower than any of us hope, but I have seen this community continually move in the right direction in a way I haven't seen any other online community this large do. Maybe it's cope, but just thought I'd inject some optimism into here... Idk.

In remembrance of some of the former EMPOC users of the previous year (correct if I'm wrong)

UlyssesT - deleted account for OPSEC issues under new Trump admin

Al_Sham - deleted account due to emotional turmoil resulting from the fall of Assadist Syria

frauddogg - deleted account out of shame of being exposed as ex-U.S soldier, after calling funkYankkkees "settler"

@[email protected] - banned due to misogyny

@[email protected] - banned due to

reason: Repeated violations and refusal to self crit

Neptium

Maorites

Afters

Hopefully this year is a year of recovery

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

I actually didn't know that UlyssesT was EMPOC.

What a year. It's been very turbulent on this site.
