God, this might be my least favorite lie, that Hitler won the election. It's completely obviously not true that a single google result will dispel it in five seconds, but people still confidently assert it like the KPD were spoilers. I need to assume that it's intentional deceit at this point.

This type of revisionism is off putting to "normies." I don't know if that will change with widespread normalization, but, for the current time, people are still (correctly) primed to respond with "wait... what the fuck?"

By the time this election happened he had been ruling by emergency decree for like 2 years. And he was a conservative, even an imaginary alliance of centrists with the SPD and KPD would not have been able to force his hand if he didn't want to accept a nomination he didn't like, and he didn't like the socialists or the communists.
