Ask these goobers to define wokeness, you’d get three different definitions

[–] [email protected] 35 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Honestly funny to see these clowns discussing "wokeism" like it's a real thing you can academically study and understand. As if it's not just a joke word that includes everything conservatives dislike.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's not just a joke word, it's a buzzword. In however long it takes, it will inevitably be replaced with another word, along with that years newest manufactured outrage.

it started out as slang to point out counter-culture shit and was quickly co-opted to mean anything the mainstream doesn't like it seems.. but it was and is just a word

Their belief that "religiosity" is right wing bothers me a lot.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Old Reddit New Atheist brainworms lead so many to believe that they couldn't be reactionary bitter old fucks because they were atheists, and being atheists was a free pass for anything else they believed because at least they weren't religious zealots...

Until they were anyway, "cultural" or "Tradcath" or otherwise. peterson-sus

Pay your child support you piece of shit.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

He'd rather wage culture war and encourage gammons to wage race war on his behalf than pay child support. Or go to therapy.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I do not think therapy would solve his problems. Nonetheless, his failure to try it in lieu of stoking race war speaks volumes

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

I agree with you, though his active (and announced on Twitter) refusal to go to therapy is symptomatic of how far gone he is.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Sounds like a worthwhile trade to me, woke doesn't condone homophobia and slavery

[–] [email protected] 29 points 2 months ago

Reminds me of those anti-suffragette propaganda posters from about a century ago that warned that if women got the right to vote that they'd practice witchcraft and destroy capitalism. waow-based

[–] [email protected] 28 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Considering right-wingers have started going to church and complaining that the Sermon on the Mount is β€œtoo woke” I don’t think that’s true.

It’s a pretty common take that lack of religions causes whatever problems you want to point to. It’s funny hearing it from the brain genius himself like it’s some revolutionary take that nobody else has thought of.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

It's such a common take that I've see it here, usually something like "obviously religion is why we have endless war" with the implication that if only everyone was atheist with no other changes wars would disappear in a cloud of euphoria.

EDIT: I misread your post, but while standing by what I said, I also agree that it's pretty common to blame lack of religion for whatever societal problems the religion enjoyer wants to blame.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think you misread Frogman's post. "It’s a pretty common take that lack of religions causes..."

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

You know, I think I did. I'll edit that.

[–] dsilverz 3 points 2 months ago

Not just lack of religion. Anything but the mainstream also gets pointed to. If you're from one or more "pagan" religions (e.g., luciferianism, satanism, hermeticism, wicca, gΓΆetia, neo-hellenism, gnosticism, umbanda/kimbanda/candomblΓ©, new age, or simply a free non-conformist esoteric/occult person as I am as a worshipper of the Dark Mother Goddess), most people tend (not everyone, so it's not a generalized rule) to have a suspicious look at ya, even atheists (again, no intention of generalize here). I'm saying that because I was once an atheist, I was once christian and now I'm a "pagan" person, and I've been noticing the religious biases of the society against esoteric beliefs. For example, in my country, a syncretic Kimbanda temple tried to raise a statue for Lucifer, the light-bringer (Lux ferre), and the city hall stopped the temple of rising the statue, because people saw it as something "diabolical".

[–] [email protected] 23 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What country are they talking about that has the highest level of religiosity but also the highest level of wokism? The Vatican? Iran???

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago (2 children)

How is the US more religious than the Vatican or Iran? Is it absolute numbers? Because then why wouldn't India, with its absolutely huge Hindu and Muslim population, not be bigger?

Am I being silly by expecting chuds to have a broader scope of the world and remember that countries outside of the West exist?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Am I being silly by expecting chuds to...

Yes. But it's okay. Their behavior and beliefs are eternally baffling.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Struggling to see how you would see what the guy four seats away is doing on their phone without getting up to look. Which is a level of creepiness that I would expect of a Musk worshipper but, then again, this entire story is obviously invented for the attention of wholesome 100 chungus Musk-senpai

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Reminds me of when a chud claims to have personally seen someone pay for a cartload of lobster and steaks with their food assistance card, then take it to their Cadillac while talking on their iPhone.

Like they all repeat this same story verbatim, so it's obvious they're talking out of their ass and making shit up, but they're also low-key admitting that they stalk people from the supermarket to their car.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Struggling to see how you would see what the guy four seats away is doing on their phone without getting up to look.

Could just be lying to boost the Meme Lord's ego and get senpai to notice the supplicant, but yeah maybe just a creep. Or a creepy liar.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm in public and literally other people have phones with social media apps on it!

These people are clowns

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 months ago

fuck off, mElon

really wanting to get

Love your neighbor, as you love yourself

tattooed on my fucking forehead these days

these people have taken a message of love and forgiveness and used it for millennia as a bludgeon for conformity, and it makes me hope it's all true because it guarantees they'll all rot in hell

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 months ago

The fuck is this dumbass talking about?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Maybe this is beneath mention, but Rufo is failing to understand an extremely simple argument. The original original argument: "Religion declined, then woke happened, causation?!?!" The counter: "The US is extremely religious and also extremely woke, so irreligiosity clearly is not a majority factor determining wokeness" Rufo: "Obviously something can be both religious and woke at the same time" He's restating a premise of the argument as though it is a refutation of the conclusion.

idk, I just hate people being this willfully illiterate even aside from the stupidity of the discussion in the first place. "Wokeness" is like "Satanism" in boomer minds, a mostly imaginary religion that they need to fight a crusade against.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago

He didn't bother to comprehend but still had to go actually

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago

Nature also abhors matter. Everything is decomposing at varying rates and through various processes, until the eventual heat death of the universe, after which, who knows. Maybe such extreme uniformity would give rise to another β€œbig bang” type of fluctuation to start it all over.

Kind of the thing with me so far as the whole "but atheism is a religion!" bit goes - The question of whether or not atheism is a religion is immaterial as to whether or not I'd want to have to live by the terms these domineering fuckers would dictate, which is my main driver in being sometimes-atheist-sometimes-agnostic moreso than any sort of hard theological or philosophical thing. (fwiw the question is more significant from a legal and educational standpoint)

These people are so fucking irritating that - by all means - I actually would rather spend eternity in the worst hell house lake-of-fire vision of the underworld you could imagine than let them dictate how I do things or why. If Elon or the NAR crowd or Focus on the Family or whatever don't like it, they're all free to grab a drill and trepanate themselves repeatedly until they stop thinking. Shit, that might actually make their vision for the future more worthwhile.

matt-jokerfied

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I truly don't see much difference in levels of torment between lake of fire hells for Pascal's Wager's losers versus the deeply fucked up and years-in-the-making fanfiction quasi-secular hells that "LessWrong" cultists imagine for their own enemies. One's a lake of fire and all that, and one's creepy nerds getting off to torturing their enemies in increasingly convoluted ways for all eternity. yud-rational

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Yeah, that's the thing. Even getting rid of a major vector isn't gonna totally curb the weird domineering streak and lust for power these people develop. They'll just take on some other way of achieving broadly similar ends.

Guys like Musk and Moldbug make me hate people in general. Why on earth am I stuck having to share human history with them?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Damn right nature abhors a vacuum. Ever seen how scared a dog gets when you try to clean the floor?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

β€œNature abhors a vacuum” is the dumbest saying possible. The vast majority of nature is vacuum.
