you know, the times everyone comes together to support or celebrate

that post yesterday about TC69 & BrookeBaybee was pretty great 🥰 I wasn't here back in the day to interact with them, but they're legendary, and seeing everyone's delight about their romance was heartwarming

tell me about the ones you hold dear

spent more time than I want to admit this weekend working on a shape cutout thing for the illustrations and fucking hated the results, so I ended up just searching up images and then combining and editing things that I liked

here's the final product. I've included the PNGs I printed from in case you liked the blessing and you're the kind of person who would give a homemade card, too. mine is printed on toned cardstock; trimmed card dimensions are 4.5x12" printed, 4.5"x6" folded.

generic Adderall is back in stock at my pharmacy 🎉 was really starting to worry they weren't going to get more until next calendar year or whenever the annual quotas reset or whatever, but I got both 30 mg xr for me and 20 mg xr for my son

possum-party

so, check yours, it might be back for you, too

timmy-pray

also, the one tech at my pharmacy that has never once been anything but barely civil with me was finally nice to me this week, which has given me another little data point that affirms my impression that pharmacy staff treats me better after having bought the name brand.

blocky-wat

have you had that experience?

the same thing happened at two other chains: there would always be a couple people on staff who were a little gruff with me in a way they weren't with other people in line ahead of me, until the day I bought name brand from them.

what-the-hell

(a third place treated me so poorly after they pulled my info up in the computer the very first time I went that I cried on the way home and never went back. kitty-cri )

my suspicion is that they're generally skeptical of anyone getting stimulants, but if I'm "willing" to pay a couple hundred per prescription per month for it, then I become less sketchy because obviously I and my kid "really need it."

brow

it's possible that they just suddenly see me as pitiable; I'm sure my voice and face change drastically in the seconds after they tell me the generic isn't available.

omori-afraid

or maybe I seem less likely to sell it if I can "afford" hundreds of dollars for the name brand.

nevermind the actual situation, which is that I'm only able to "afford" it or "willing" to pay that because I can beg my family for help, and there are plenty of people (who need it to have any executive function just as much as my kid and I do!) who just Do Not Have That Option.

stress

when this happens to me, it makes me wonder how they treated everyone who couldn't afford the name brand. are they even more suspicious of them now?

kitty-birthday-sad

I don't have a better theory for their line of thinking, and surprise surprise, the logic doesn't even hold up, imo. I could even see someone being more tempted to sell a couple day-off doses to recoup some of those hundreds they spent on the name brand – you do occasionally need to eat, after all.

I'm making a card to go along with our gift, but deciding what to write inside is hard! I did some searching and compiling of bits and pieces that I liked, and here's what I've got so far, please give your edits/suggestions/etc

May the Sun bring you new energy by day,
And may the Moon bring you peace every night.

May your wisdom and courage never fail,
May your kindness be returned multiplied,
And may beauty forever grace your heart and gaze.

May you always have a warm home to return to,
A gentle word offered to you, and a safe haven to rest your head.

May the rains softly wash away your cares and refresh you.
May the storms pass you by, the fires only warm you,
The tides bear you up, and the earth be a friend beneath your feet.

May you forever walk in harmony,
May you always know your blessings,
And may you never want for more.

my son's cat, Ruby (hexbear.net)
submitted 8 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

she's tiny but she's almost 2.5 years old, just a very very petite kitty

she's named Ruby because she was born in July, we got her from the farm we were doing CSA with that year

she's very snuggly and curious, she loves to climb inappropriate things like curtains and screen doors and take long naps with my son, curled up on his back ❤️

right now she's pestering me while I try to clean in the basement, lmk if you have anything you'd like to say to her and I'll pass it along

anybody else engaging in this bizarre behavior I can't let go of?

it takes me a month to go through a pack these days, even giving them away, because I'm one of those lucky freaks who can just smoke one here and there and not be interested in one day to day

but I'm still flipping the front middle one over every time I open a new pack

maybe (probably!) you don't do lucky cigs – what're you doing that's a ridiculous holdover from forever ago?

Testimony from someone who worked first shift the day it happened and was almost swept away by flood waters when he tried to evacuate too late.

He correctly identifies that the greed of management is what killed his coworkers.

I heard on an ABC (American) newscast today that he shielded his wife and kids with his body, which is why they're calling him a hero, but everyone qualified that statement with "his wife claims that he..." soooooooo 🤷

I just found it interesting that they weren't reporting it as fact but as hearsay when it should be super easy to figure out, there were a ton of cameras

This happened with the dog food we were buying during the pandemic. The largest bag had been 42 lbs, but then it changed to a 38 lb package. The best part was that they also changed the labeling to say it was "38 LBS!! BONUS SIZE!!" — I have a really good memory for numbers and was instantly pissed about the marketing bullshit.

Same price, of course.

I did not understand orgasms or realize I wasn't having them with my partners until I finally did have one. 😂 I genuinely didn't understand that it could feel that good until it did.

This is really sad for me. Beehaw was what helped me really dive into the Fediverse, and then I found midwest.social through them, and then you guys federated, and now I'm here... but they're such a kind and sweet place on the Internet.

I get that they're mostly lib af, but still, they're very kind, well-meaning folk, and I wouldn't have found you all without them.

I've been meaning to dive back in over there to say hi and be supportive but have had so much irl stuff going on, and man oh man, it just really hurts my heart that they're going through such terrible growing pains. I meant to contribute to the living expenses of one of the admins because I appreciate their work so much, and then I adhd-taxed myself and got some overdraft fees and was distracted with hexbear in the meantime and totally forgot, and damn do I feel like an asshole.

Idk what the point of this is, except to say that they're really wonderfully kind people over there, and I'm so sorry that things are getting so difficult for them.

I need to put some money where my heart is and contribute more to them and to hexbear.

Sincerity Post Alert - Sorry in advance for the cringe.

This honestly hurts my heart.

I'm an atheist now, but I grew up in church, I attended a tiny, private Christian school from 8th grade through 11th (and only left because they weren't chartered to give diplomas), I literally had formal Bible class 6 days a week and happily attended evening services - because I was a naive kid who truly believed that "love everyone" and "do unto others" stuff was as important to everyone else as it was to me.

I was always a weird kid without many friends my age, and the kindness and friendliness of the adults at church was a big deal for me. Coming to terms with the hypocrisy in the adults around me - realizing how judgemental and shitty most of them actually were - made my late teens extra lonely.

Nobody's perfect, but - Jesus Fucking Christ, I don't know why, but I still get surprised at the depths of awful behavior done in his name, and the ways his message of empathy and compassion gets twisted to justify it.

His message of empathy. That is the core of his message. Mark, Chapter 12:

28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[e] 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[f] 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[g] There is no commandment greater than these.”

32 “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

34 When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

Enticing Empathy: How Satan Corrupts Through Compassion

This is truly evil. The antidote for the prosperity gospel brainworms is empathy and compassion. Honestly, I truly, deeply believe in my stupid little naive heart that the antidote for most societal ills is empathy and compassion.* How do you actually, really solve the diseases of greed and selfishness without them?

This demonization of caring is just evil. How do I talk my evangelical boomer parents out of their brainworms if they're getting this kind of messaging in church? Idfk. I guess I just keep reacting with the appropriate level of disgust to this sort of thing and ask questions and hope they're not too lead-poisoned to someday see the contradiction between the message of Christ and the message of church.

This is a real bummer, but I guess it's better to know than not. yuck.

/* - I understand there are also problems that require math and/or guillotines.

Blacks often report higher pain intensity

plus

Black people don't feel pain

makes for a horrifying revelation of the depth of the impunity they feel when they enact violence and indifference on black bodies

I knew it was bad, but jfc

That was the nudge I needed to make an account over here. I joined midwest.social because it was an explicitly leftist server. I would have been very sad to lose access to the good posts here now that I know about them, and honestly I'm pretty baffled at the number of users native to that instance who are bitching about you all in that thread.

Edit: thank you all so much for the warm welcome ❤️
