I think history gave him too much credit actually. The seed of the destruction of the USSR was planted during Khrushchev’s rule. If there hadn’t been a de-Stalinization campaign and if someone had just continued Stalin’s policies, then there was a very strong possibility that the USSR would have surpassed the capitalist West in terms of prosperity and living standards in just a few more decades.
