Did they really expect North Koreans to be like "Oh shit, we were missing out on soulless baby music? Damn better give up our sovereignty!"

From what I've heard a lot of young people in the DPRK do watch pirated K-dramas and listen to K-Pop. Like it's in Korean, it's free due to piracy, easily accessed etc.

The government doesn't really care as its not going to turn their society capitalist magically like watching game of thrones won't make you a monarchist/feudalist. Plus until recently peaceful reunifucation was a big goal etc.

Similarly they watch Chinese dramas and listen to their music. There's a Korean-Minority so media/subtitiles/dubs made for that market.

You shouldn’t joke about this. I sent the DPRK K-Pop and called it “DPRK-Pop” as a bit, and they didn’t like it at ALL

I'm sorry they rejected your audition tape.

DPRK-pop reality show would go hard. Send 10 south Korean idols to a NK music school and send 10 NK singers to a SK idol-farm and see who has the better experience

The korean black market also has smuggled western/south korean media, so it’s not like it’s completely foreign to them despite depictions of north koreans as being outer worldly creatures who cannot comprehend gravity and time. I can’t imagine most of those balloons reaching very far or having any more of an impact compared to north koreans consuming media from just going shopping every day

There's also completely legal ROK media in the DPRK as well. Yes it's restricted but there's more legitimate trade than you might think.

You are 100% correct, but I like this one Kpop song

Not disproving the soulless baby music allegations tbh

I like this one too, but its tough being a kpop fan on hexbear tbh

Honestly it's a positive liberal song, I'm not gonna die on that hill. But ya, it has an OK message and I like the set design a lot.
