Gonna be hilarious when Trump gets his fourth Supreme Court justice because another liberal refused to retire when a Democrat was president.

And it’ll be Bernie Sanders’ and his tankie Palestinian supporters’ fault

Do wonder what excuse mitch would use this time to not appointment a replacement before the election

Dems still control the Senate, so McConnell can't do anything. Sinema could do something though.

Dems controlled the Senate for a while last time too. They were too afraid to use a simple majority to pass through any of their nominations though. 60 votes were required to add someone to the supreme Court, dems had a simple majority and were unwilling to lower because "then the Republicans would use it."

Lot of good that did

They actually did remove the filibuster for lower court nominations. Which gave the Republicans easy justification to remove it for Kavanaugh a few years later.

So they essentially handed the Republicans that power without ever using it themselves. Strategic geniuses.

But now that it's gone, they are shooting themselves in the foot - again - by not having Sotomayor (and Kagan really) retire.

Or Manchin, fuck could see Fetterman too if they aren't pro Israel enough

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

Fetterman will be the new rotating villain after Manchin retires

manhattan

It is 2013. A girlboss refuses to retire from the supreme court and her seat will be filled by the opposition when she dies after the next election.

Translation: We need the threat of her death in office to blackmail voters with.

Translation: We need ~~the threat of her death in office to blackmail voters with~~ at least one more 40-year old Federalist Society Judge to dominate the judicial branch for the next generation, just in case Thomas kicks it and Roberts pulls a Souter.

Time is a flat circle and we're all trapped by it.

Sotomayakanda does roll off the tongue

[–] [email protected] 18 points 7 months ago

Come on this is way too on the nose. They're trolling us.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 7 months ago

Oh that would be so funny if they did it again

[–] [email protected] 16 points 7 months ago

simply win every election until 2054 so the dems will get a one vote margin on the supreme court, then real change can start!

[–] [email protected] 13 points 7 months ago

Would be nice if they actually focused on winning elections, they seem to be trying their hardest to do the opposite at this point.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 7 months ago

JUST WIN, BABY!

Lol. Lmao.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago

first as a farce, and then as another farce

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago

If you're the Democrats, you win some and you lose some and you lose some more and you lose some more...

Time for our rulers to roll the dice on our cabal of boring wizards again! Hope it doesn't result in misery for millions.

I'm not saying they shouldn't put her out to pasture and replace her with a 35 year-old who will never die but on the other hand she isn't that old. She'll turn 70 this year which is well into retirement age for us working class schlubs, but for a cushy gig like theirs that's no deal. I know Ginsberg refused to retire but RBG was well into her eighties when Obama was still president and she had pancreatic cancer. Unless democrats believe they won't control the presidency or the Senate at any time in the next decade this isn't a big issue. I mean, unless I'm wrong a seventy-something woman dies during a Republican presidency, then it's a huge issue for them.
