Unjust Depths AND MORE
Im also lesbians :)I really enjoyed her having to handle Selene's freak-out over that biomass, that was cool. I'm digging all of the neurodiversity that's being signaled in this. Like when Zachikova is playing with that fish, what a lil dork she's just havin' fun :')
No worries and no pressure, Star Trek is also a good use of free time! I'm glad you're lookin forward to it, TLGS is pretty dark but it's one of those things, I find it deeply cathartic and its examination of how fascism interacts with queer people is pretty unique.
the depths... they're so unjust
there's a bunch of characters who clearly aren't neurotypical. it's nicei'd say more like the usa of like, the 80s or 90s? like, very much seems like queerness is supposed to be kept quiet even if it's an open secret. to continue the buttigieg metaphor, i doubt you could openly have a same sex partner and be in any major positions of power, but as long as you keep it on the down low it's probably fine. of course if you aren't in a position of power things might get stickier*
and i'm definitely gonna read this, that sounds unbelievably up my alley spoiler *this is a little informed by future stuff, but nothing important and nothing specific like, we see some of what it's like for trans people in at least one part of the empire and it's not strictly speaking illegal but it isn't good. below even the low bar of the modern usa (considering the whole country, it's possible things are better in the empire than in like florida or whatever) :::
Idk abt the title actually, seems pretty Just to me given that humanity doubtlessly fucked up the Aer... maybe Unjust for the people who have to live with the consequences centuries later? Idk...
Nice, and it's not even explicitly called out in-universe, cause the Depths seem to have their own roster of medical conditions and neural divergences, but I can just tell and given everything else COOL going on, there is no fucking way the author isn't intending Zachikova or Shalikova to be ND :) my beloveds...
Yeah okay, I see! I read your nonspoiler, I'm lookin forward to that. Queer issues in the Empire is one of those societal things I wanna see when the Brigand docks at a town next, along with Shalikova and Maryan's date lol ✨
Rad, looking forward to hearing about it when you do =)
