I know it's fun to dunk on the asshole ruining our country, but I don't think we should be in the habit of sharing shopped images. That's what the extremists do, and then claim it's real. We have to be better than them. Plus, they'll use us distributing the memes as evidence of "Dems spreading fake news!"...
It probably is shopped because Trump wears adult diapers and when those fail, they don’t fail right as the bunghe. A brown stain below his hip or down the inside of his thigh would be more likely.
All that said, it’s an open secret that the man shits himself all day long. He’s old and it’s a thing that happens.
No taking the high ground is what got us where we are today.
High Ground my fuckin ass.
Theres a billion things that he and republicans have legitimately done, that can be used to dunk on them, and criticize them, and attack them over. Up to and even including shitting himself, Theres plenty of stories of staff talking about the stench on The Apprentice. Plenty of pictures showing his actual, depends poofed ass.
And you choose to just run with lies and make shit up.
Thats not high ground.
Thats, at best, pure fucking uninspired laziness, and at worse.. Its downright republican infiltrator/propagandist activity, muddying the waters and trying to discredit actual, factual shit.
I know, right? You don't have to make shit up to make Trump look like a dickhead. Everything he says, does and believes should give you plenty of material to do that.
Exactly. the things to legitimately use are as lush, fruitful and plentiful as the densest jungle.
yet people wanna pretend to be in a barren desert and defend mirages instead.
muddying the trousers*
Naw, fuck em. They’re going to accuse that anyways.
We have to be better than them by not being inhumane fucks sending 4 year old cancer kids to gulags, not by not fighting dirty.
Use every tool available to weaken Trumps image. Make the world think he’s an infirm senile fuck who can’t even go an hour without shitting himself.
Make the world see a simple truth. Easier said than done, apparently.
They do it themselves and already accuse everyone else of sharing fake stuff. Has the moral high ground really worked so far?
All I see is that lies and appeal to emotion is what has given them real power. So when it comes to ridiculing the trump administration, I say fuck it, the alternative hasn't worked so far. It's only gotten worse
It has nothing to do with morality. People largely distrust politicians and politics in general. "Never Trump" Republicans and middle-of-the-road Independents. People we actually do need to vote. They'll say "both sides are the same" when they're obviously not. When we prove them right by stooping to the extremists' level, they disengage, along with millions of other people. They won't trust us, and why should they?
And I ask again, has that call to voting and high-roading strategy worked so far? All I see is a fascist US that will now inevitably end in bloodshed. People already disengaged without the opposition "stooping down to extremist levels". I'd even argue that that sort of weak opposition is exactly why people disengaged in the first place
Not to mention, the US is beyond that stage now. Fascism has arrived there, and it has entrenched itself. It will not leave peacefully, just like it didn't historically. No matter what, it's time for new strategies
Literally no one is saying to use the "high road", I'm saying that, as a strategy, using disinformation will not accomplish our goals. And that's not even taking into account the results. You think tricking people into following us based on doctored images will get loyal, dependable supporters??
Look, you have your opinion and I have mine. Plenty of progressive think tanks, organizations, podcasts, etc will do focus groups and surveys closer to the midterms elections. At which point we'll have a better understanding of voters and messaging... In the meantime, I can only speak for myself: I, personally am far less likely to support any candidate that uses disinformation and blatant lies. Am I alone? Maybe. But I'm willing to bet there's millions more that feel the same way...
We don't get to peek at an alternate universe in which non-MAGA decided to play dirty too.
For all you know, many people who voted against Trump would've stayed home if alternatives were just as dishonest.
We don't need to look at an alternate one to see that your way already hasn't worked
A fire not being resolved by throwing a bucket of water on it doesn't mean it's time to break out the gasoline.
"But your bucket of water didn't work!"
I think we honestly have to step back and wonder how why so many people are emphatically obsessed with the lie and derailing discourse with it, rather than picking and choosing any of the actual, factual items of a similar nature that have actual evidence backing them up.
My guess is its a probing campaign trying to see if right wing troll farms can sow discord and muddy the discussions, or trying to pull pliable people into the misinformation/echochamber bubble.
agreed. it's appropriate sometimes, especially when humor and mockery is being used to generate a sentiment/vibe. no one believes this meme image is meant to establish an orderly basis of factual reality based consensus about Trump. it's a joke.
besides, there is no amount of "high roading" with facts and logic that will reverse millions of hours of targeted brainwashing that caused a third of the population to vote against their own interests. we need to use multiple tactics, and appeals to humor/vibes/insults is one way we can make those backwards voters feel differently.
end of the day, subtle manipulation of images to create a vibe WORKS on people and shifts perceptions. the left should weaponize it to achieve goals, imo.
I am so far past the point of giving a fuck about arguments that end with "and the Republicans will say..."
I'm right there with you. I don't say these things in consideration of them, but as a calculated political strategy.
I'm saying that even in what is intended to be a calculated political strategy, it amounts to jumping at shadows.
Republicans are not bound by truth or logic or even evidence in what they say.
Worry about how the people you are trying to reach will react to your statement rather than letting the Marjorie Taylor-Greenes of the world pre-censor you.
Why don't you just say yes, he shit his pants, and go on to something else?
I agree with you on general, but Trump literally just tried to use a doctored image to say that AG was in MS-13. This is the poetic justice.
Because... it's not the truth? At least in regards to that edited image. Republicans may not care what's real, but I do. Yeah, Trump's a piece of shit. But the one thing he can never do is to turn me into one. Even if we disagree, please take care of your family, friends, and community.
"If Trumps doing it, then its okay!" is not the argument you seem to think it is.
Or it's to satirise it maybe? Who knows?
"When they go low, we go high" isn't the one you think either
Why don't you tell the court where anyone said to go high.
Exactly. These replies are like "you can't tell people to not be effective and to stick only to the highest standards of courtesy and decorum!" Literally no one is saying that.
Exactly.
Its just so fucking weird to make up instances and lie about things, when we have actual factual instances of it actually happening, that are well known and easily used instead.
Like. The only reason I can see being so die hard for the lie is if you are some right winger trying to poison discussion and discourse.
I'm not saying it's ok as a general principal, I'm saying it's ok to do it to Trump the day after he does it to someone else.
"I'm not saying its okay, I'm just saying if Trump is doing it, then its okay to do it!"
I’m not saying its okay, I’m just saying if Trump is doing it, then its okay to do it to Trump!
"I'm not saying its okay, I'm just saying its okay if trumps doing it, with emphasis!"
i agree, We dont relly need photoshops and lies, when theres plenty of truth out there thats humiliating enough as is.
but as you can see, theres a lot of people who don't give a shit about right, as long as they can dunk on the person they dont like. Same issue as those fake TPUSA tweets people were obsessed with making a few years ago. Does nothing but muddy waters and provide cover for right wing actions.
Mind you, it is pretty funny, especially when you think it probably really infuriates His Royal Stinkiness. I hope he sees it. He does think photoshops are real, after all.
if there's nothing to claim as evidence they will just invent something like they always do.
Agreed. They will lie and spread disinformation, so we should not. It's what separates us from them...
Fuck that. What separates me and them is humanity, not honesty. I'll lie until I'm blue in the face, and i still haven't sent people to fucking death camps.
I disagree.
There's a difference between a meme and presenting a doctored image as legit
I didn't see where anyone claimed it was real in here. Did you?
Sure, but I'm here looking at the comments because I couldn't tell
Same, honestly posting something false without clearly stating it as such is... How fake news starts I guess?
Thats how you get pulled into the misinformation bubble.
Small things that you think are real or agree with, so you don't bother fact checking it at all.. and that becomes the first of many papercuts that leads to the echochamber.
Who cares?
