would it be weird to go to a clinic like Planned Parenthood for gender affirming care but to only ask for finasteride? I will likely get on proper HRT at some point, I'm still thinking about it, but my hair needs to be fixed NAOW. Would a trichologist/dermatologist be more appropriate?
the thing I'm worried about with more conventional doctors is that I'm still closeted/"boymoding" so I feel like they might discourage finasteride or encourage other less effective treatments because they think I'm actively trying to avoid feminizing side effects when really it's a plus lol
I think that would be fine. In my experience, PP seems very willing to provide treatment that suits your needs. During my first appointment they asked me what my transition goals were.
I’d go to planned parenthood hood and explain your situation. Normal dose would be fine (1mg). There’s not much data about higher dose use of finasteride in trans or NB/GNC people but it’s probably safer than for cis people. I actually take 5mg. Have been doing so for a couple of months. After a year of 2.5mg.
Also generic finasteride is often very cheap, many hair loss places are scams to get you to pay several times more than what it actually costs, which is 20 dollars AUD here for 30x5mg tablets which you can halve or quarter or 30 dollars for 30 x 1mgs. If that seems odd that the bigger dose is cheaper, I don’t know why but supply and demand or something.
Ask for what you want now. Going to PP seems like a good way to make it more comfortable.
