Getting the gender marker updated at the Social Security Administration office was easy, once I was able to get an appointment. Was complete within 5 minutes, and the staff was nice.
Iโve never had that shit done and Iโve been transitioning for years, Iโm surprised it is that simple
Well, it is right now. The Biden admin effectively instituted self-id for federal identification documents (Passports and Social Security Cards). It's very likely that the Trump admin will quickly halt this policy, so I'd recommend getting it done soon if you can.
I hope it comes back after trump
There's gender markers at Social Security? My card never has had any marker of gender on it.
I second that everyone should go get it changed. Some companies will use a federal background check program when they hire you, and if there is a mismatch between social security record and other forms or ID it can be a problem that prevents you from starting work.
Yes, it's in the database. I strongly recommend that you get it changed if other federal IDs are changed as well, since a mismatch between that and other documents might be flagged if the new administration tries to audit those databases to find trans people.
