Bottom lashes and bottom eyeline are both tricky and take practice, there are a few tricks to it but well worth it.
You can try a smaller lash wand for lower lashes. There are a load of tutorials for it.
Depending on the mascara brush, using the tip vertically can help, also do bottom lashes first. Can also use a spoon under your eye so you don't catch your skin. Gently use a qtip to remove any smudging.
using liquid liner for upper and lower water line make your eyes really dramatic but took me a while to learn.

will definitely try the spoon trick tomorrow, and I should buy a new mascara soon anyway so I'll see if I can get a small wand too
You may be able to find some tutorials on youtube if you haven't aleeady checled also.
