I wonder if, contra to that, an immortal race might find mortal life to be very precious? Vampires, hey I get it, they eat humans, of course they're gonna look down on their prey.

The natural world is filled with ephemeral phenomena, night elves are supposed to like plants and animals and stuff - they are born and die too. Even a mountain is worn down by a river or a glacier and the immortal elves probably watched and maybe even midwifed that. Perhaps they get frustrated with mortal races re-learning the same lessons over and over but I don't think they'd find humanity as underneath their concern or empathy. Or maybe they do cause mortal races are a little more bratty than growing a grove and bringing in a lil ecosystem of attendant animals and funguses.

But then again... I dunno, I like it when people push back even if just a little even in nursing. It's when they're most compliant that things tend to get dire, it's nice when they have spunk or a spark or something that tells them to break the rules and be independent. There's probably some night elves like that.

Another thing that immortality would cause me to worry about is how they would improve over time. For example, you don't necessarily need to convince boomers they are wrong about certain things... as long as you can mitigate their harmful effects or wait long enough for them to die. If humans suddenly became immortal, I'd be more worried about things like trans liberation. Otoh, maybe boomers would care more about climate change if they had more reason to be invested (granted, if they're in denial about it, then being personally affected more wouldn't matter, but perhaps there would be a lot fewer powerful interests who intentionally cause such denial).
