I know I don't need to think about getting a new name right now but I am anyway. So I was looking at people talking about picking their new names and it's all like "Well I picked [extremely cute and unique name, but not too unique or unusual] because it aligns with my star sign, my grandmother's middle name (who I loved dearly but passed away when I was a child), means all of these things in these cultures that tie to who I am, and lines up with my winning lottery ticket numbers."

And I'm like cheems "[common name for people my age] sounds cute"

edit: oh wow I was 666 and didn't even write about Satan. Well here it is, dudes rock. I can't stand up to anyone about anything and here's this dude fighting god for thousands of years. What a guy.

[Common name for people your age] is very cute! Mine is pretty common too, although the reason I picked it was because it's what I would have been called if I was afab and I've always been quite partial to the name because of that. I used to want to name my child it but now it's alllll mine and that feels much nicer.

I wanted to do that, but my uncle named his daughter the name my mom wanted to name me, so it made it awkward

My sister really wanted to use mine for her kid so we had a little joke about which of us was gonna get it first. I cheated and won~

speedrunning tactic

Aw I'm glad you like it crush My sister got my afab name so that's out. I'm a little surprised how common it is for trans people to have a name they really want for their future child, and then picking it for themselves. Glad its all yours now.

I've mentioned it before but having a child conceptually had some vicariousness in all my fantasising about it so I chalk it up to that. Especially since I have no interest in having kids now.

Not clue what my mom would have named me if I was afab, but given I have a younger sister, it might be taken already. ๐Ÿ˜ข

Picking a name based on vibes is valid and cool

I feel like I'm not even picking one though, it just like jumps out at me. I feel like I need to look at all my options.

If it jumps out at you it's probably the one you'll like the most! One of my middle names was a suggestion a friend gave that I immediately fell in love with.

You could do what I did and have some dude in high school you have an unhealthy relationship with chose it for you and then years later realize it's way too weebish and alter it to something more normal.
