It's really not, if anything French and English should be reversed. You can generally know how a french word is supposed to be pronounced when reading it (assuming you know how to read French, of course), in English it's a complete crapshoot

Look up how many heatwaves happened in France during the 20th century, and how many happened in the last 10 years. Yes, weather on any single day is not climate, but we are quite past "oh heatwaves happened before".
He's clearly an advanced scientific mind, he made the hypothesis people wouldn't fight for what they believe in, and was proven experimentally wrong. He should be grateful for the data point and update his beliefs accordingly. Though in good scientific practice I'm sure he'll replicate the experiment.
