I thought the same as you did before coming in here thinking the headline was fine but reading some other comments I can see their point of view. Different people just see different things, it's all just perspective. You've really gone on an unhealthy crusade in here demanding everyone see your side and that it's the only valid one.
Is that still a pervasive thought in today's culture about Japan? I understood back in the 90's when there was less exposure but I thought that reality kinda crumbled with the loss of high tech companies that actually give a damn anymore. I don't know of anyone that talks about "premier" Japan tech unless it's something from the past.
Honestly, you'll be better off getting into linux now than any previous years. It's pretty easy and practical these days especially with the push into the Steam Deck. It's pretty much plug(install)-and-play with most systems, there's only a few outliers like custom pc's and a small amount of games that will give you any sort of problems.
I run one windows, one mac, and like 5 linux machines. If you stick with the more popular linux distributions like debian you won't run into weird problems. It's only surfing weird distro's like elementary and pop OS that I've had to do further troubleshooting on.
you would have to factor in the amount of traffic that exposure from youtube gets them for those other monetary functions to get a real sense of how valuable it is to be or not be on that platform. Definitely feel like ethics should always come into play though and a lot of creators are branching out with hosting themselves or patreon/etc.
I was a wee little lad when a neighborhood friend showed me what happens to a slug when you pour salt on it, how anyone can see that and condone or joke about the use is akin to gas chambers being "effective" for the nazis or death sentences.
Slugs are amazing, their benefits are like worms, birds, and legumes super packed into tiny squishy guys (they compost, spread seeds, and are a good protein source for nature (link)).
Slugs also don't just "show up" and sneak into the house. If you've got a gap under the door like that then EVERYTHING is getting in and your entrance is about as energy efficient as a barn door (for the love of god just get an under door weatherstrip for 10$ even if you rent).
Slugs rely on very moist conditions, your gutter/foundation drainage at that point should be a priority and will 100% make the problem naturally go away. If they're in your house, you should be concerned about possible health complications with whatever conditions are making it a viable habitat for them (probably an open crawlspace with plumbing leaks and water pooling from improper grading). I would probably be worrying about mold and termites more at that point than some slimy guys.

It just baffles my mind of how some of these places are ran by the mod teams. If it wasn't for the masses of people that still flock to them I would've given up a long time ago (now only check like once every two weeks), but by the evidence they (the users) just aren't getting the help they need.

Like 10 mods, and they don't auto-block "new" people from posting (the post had 103 comments when it was locked). Easy to tell this wasn't spam and it was a legitimate person looking for advice.
They suggest logging into your "main" account. As if people want to post identifying pictures of their house under an account which might have lots of references for identification. I just wish they knew how much easier it would be to make a lemmy account instead of jumping through Reddit's hoops, could have a very robust community of tradesmen on here that would attract more people looking for advice.
I remember growing up in the 90's and being acutely aware of the growing minimum wage. I knew no matter what that when I was able to get a job I would be guaranteed "this" amount and always thought about prices and how long I had to work to get something I wanted when I was an adult. Every small bump made it a little mini-celebration like I was getting a future raise that would allow me to have a better life.
Now? Shake and bake costs over 5$, I have to literally work over an hour to buy half a cup of "convenient" seasoned bread crumbs. I could buy the flour, make the bread, and process it to make my own... but now I'm out of time in the day to work enough to actually afford the meat or any other side item. Oh yeah, and at some point I should pay my bills and save for retirement -_-
