my boss said he doesn't personally post here but some others might. and my boss thinks it's cool that I'm a leftist, he's one too, apparently, and that a bunch of our coworkers are leftists. some of them might post here?? it's a finance firm -- the last place I'd expect this. how the fuck do they have a positive opinion of this place??

YOU HAVE TO TELL ME IF YOU POST HERE AND WHAT YOUR @ IS. THIS IS SO UNFAIR LEAVING ME ON THE HOOK LIKE THIS. DON'T MAKE ME POST PPB TO THE WORK SLACK AND SEE WHO LAUGHS.

(I use tree style tabs so they can read my tabs when I share my screen -- I didn't hide this place because who the fuck has heard of hexbear)

Damn, that's really cool, I'm actually in a similar situation. Found out some months back that my landlord uses Hexbear when I saw him pull up the site on his phone while I was requesting that he fix the broken heater and leaky roof in my apartment. I brought it up and instantly he seemed just as happy as I was to have randomly come across a Hexbear comrade in the wild. What are the odds, right? Anyway, turns out he's an ML! Now we hang out, watch Star Trek, and shoot the shit about theory over weed and beer on the weekends.

A couple weeks ago I was talking to my landlord about how hard it is to find leftist friends, and he got the idea to introduce me to a buddy of his, the one who actually introduced him to Hexbear in the first place. Turns out he's the police officer who usually handles the evictions here. I'd seen him around, but I had no idea he was actually cool. Dude's an anarchist and heavily involved with his union, really based. We invited him to get baked and hang out with us and we really hit it off. It's nice having an anarchist perspective for our theory talk, really fitting given we all use the same left unity website. Not gonna lie, it does get heated at times, and I'm still a bit apprehensive about him showing up to these hangouts in uniform with his service weapon, but I think that's just me being antsy.

Hope you can get something similar going with your boss. Hexbear is great and all, but there's no substitute to having good comrades to hang out with offline.

Eh, you'd be surprised. I know a few leftists working in fintech, it pays damn good and the marginal evil-utility of arbitrage or something is pretty low compared to the kind of shit they'd be enabling at FAANG.

I can't remember where it was, but I was listening to an interview with a left-wing guy who worked for some sort of stock buying/trading company. He said his strategy was to just assume all the hype was bullshit and things were only going to get worse. Apparently he performed so much better than everyone else that his boss just assumed he was doing illegal insider-trading stuff.

I gave hexbear to a kind of whacky old lady from the allotment who is extremely online due to being unemployed, she got caught up in all that qanon shit a while back you know the type, lurking hexbear has clearly been slowly turning her into a communist because her takes are getting better and better.

To the network engineer seeing hexbear.net being accessed on the company Wi-fi, coming here, and then radicalising the rest of the office, 07

browsing hexbear on the clock is praxis, especially in the wretched world of econony

no one yet has recognized my custom laptop sticker but if and when they do I will probably be like kobeni-sweat because of my own personal contradictions regarding my privacy neuroses and wanting to wear my ideology and interests on my sleeve

It's weird how many lefties there are in finance. I once had a discussion with a quant on how economic planning would probably work and should be tried, and I once added someone on discord and found they were in the Hasanabi discord. I guess it makes sense when your job is to see past the bs.

Why did you tell your boss you are a leftist btw? I had a coworker like you who tried to talk to the HR manager about communism for some reason, that's how I found out.

Was not interested in any of my Samir Amin type shit of course but that's just the way the cookie crumbles

Are you going to debate your finance boss into unionizing your finance job? :-)
