On this day in 1970, a spontaneous uprising against U.S. military occupation broke out in Koza, Okinawa, Japan after an American drunk driver struck a local pedestrian. Approximately 60 Americans and 27 Okinawans were injured, and dozens of cars with American license plates were torched.

Following Japan's defeat in World War II, the country was occupied by Allied forces and governed under martial law. While most of Japan regained its independence in April 1952, the Okinawa Prefecture was to remain under U.S. military occupation for another twenty years.

Prior to the events of December 20th, three Americans had been acquitted via court martial after striking and killing an Okinawa civilian. This incident fueled the growing discontent of Okinawans with the standard status of forces that exempted U.S. servicemen from Okinawan justice.

On December 20th, 1970, a drunk U.S. serviceman struck an Okinawan pedestrian in the city of Koza. A crowd quickly surrounded the car and the policemen who had arrived, demanding that this incident not also be swept under the rug.

When American MPs arrived and attempted to pull the driver away, the protest turned violent, with thousands gathering to try to prevent the driver from leaving. By the end of the night, dozens of cars with American license plates had been torched and approximately 60 Americans and 27 Okinawans had been injured.

Ok I was a bit down on the new rick and morty season because the latter half was pretty bad, but the last episode was good, gotta say. Not the best season by far but overall pretty solid, some good laughs in a few episodes. 6/10, bonus points because the guys who replaced roiland killed it.

Having your ankles stuck in a stock while the bottom of your feet get lightly scratched is amazing. It's not even like it turns me on or anything. I just love the sensations and how strongly I can feel them.

A communist guild was randomly advertising in GW2, i feel like this a good sign of the times? 110 members, not too bad for a old game.

Radicalizing conditions, my beloved

The Boy and the Heron Review:

Favorite Ghibli. It feels like another Spirited Away with its journey through a mystical world in order to recover a family member. I really like the main character Mahito because he's such a good example of masculinity and boyhood without the toxic elements. Some Heron shit-talking your family? Just build a bow in your backyard and go hunting! His character arc is surprisingly great as he

spoilerrecognizes the malice in his past actions and embraces a love for his new family. It serves to soften off some edges of his character and create a more empathetic but no less brave male character.

One of the best movies I've seen in years and I highly recommend it. Although I watched a few scenes at home and in the theaters and I don't think it needs to be seen on a big screen.

The most exciting thing about GTA VI is that I’ll be able to accurately reenact the escapades of The Liberal Driller

I attempted my first homemade vegan milk chocolates today (specifically for christmas, got a themed mold for it)

It was a failure, but an informative one; put too much cocoa powder and not enough almond milk powder. It's sugary enough, but it looks and tastes more like dark chocolate (except for the sugar level)

Making a double boiler for the cocoa butter was neat though, worked perfectly; also that cocoa butter thing is fucking expensive. I've read substituting coconut oil for it, at least partially, works; I'll also try that soon.

Looks like One PIece is getting a remake by Wit Studio that Netflix is producing. It's only East Blue. I guess the Live Action was more successful than I gave it credit for.

If the T-wolves avoid foul trouble with Embiid and hold the 76ers to less than 120 pts I think they win tonight's game. Crazy that scoring 120 points is the equivalent of 100 when I was growing up.

CW Warning; Heavy stuff

spoilerCW: DV, murder, suicide, violence against women, prison

spoilerThere is a song called "Sober Song" by a band called Noir Desir. And it is, almost perfectly, the first hour or so of Disco Elysium. BUT. The front man for the group murdered his girlfriend, Marie Trintignant, back in 2003. And his wife/ex-wife killed herself at some point around the time he was paroled after spending seven years in prison for the murder. Her family says this was due to his abusive behavior. This is extremely not Disco-Elysium. The world ought not be like this. That's not what I want to say, but I'm not sure how to say what I want to say so that's what I've got.

got a DW video on my fyp about why it's so much more expensive to travel across Europe by train than by flight

their solution? stop subsiding air travel - aka make air travel more expensive. that way they'll both be expensive instead of one being a lot cheaper!

I love the neoliberal mindset

There's a new Johnny Harris youtube video out and I'm in the comments leaving my thoughts as I watch it. I remembered a discussion the other day about having targeted youtube videos as a compromise to the "youtube sucks" and "we need targets" crowds where we leave our leftists opinions on there rapid fire.
