Admit it. You found yourself wondering when was the last time James Vance visited the Pope.

Cancer can take a while to be detectable. I just blamed him automatically

I considered trying to make a joke about James wearing toxic eyeliner to take down another pope, but the setup felt a little tortured and the reach too far.

The last pope also only had one lung.

This is getting to be a habit.

Luckily he's the CEO of the wealthiest organisation on Earth

    Or maybe not, after all

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.

This pope doesn't live the lifestyle you suggest he lives. Two sets of clothes, austere meals, a simple bed, a desk, and not much else. Even his travels are for the good of others, as there's not much to enjoy by those experiences for him. He may set the tone for many Catholics across the globe, but that's the extent. He constantly pleas for an end to genocide in the Middle East. He shames the US president for having the wrong priorities. And he asks us to take care of our neighbors. You would think most people on this platform would like the guy. He has flaws, but so do all of us.

He's also spotty on other social issues, namely queer rights and abortion. He, like his precedessor, is a complicated figure in a lot of ways. Mind you by the standard of popes they're fucking saints, but that's because several popes prior had been pretty damn bad in several areas, especially defending child molestation, residential schools in North America, and the laundries in Ireland.

He's a pretty good pope, I hope he can get his organization to stop fighting against my rights in my country.

people dont get the genesis reference your makin. Christians really believe jesus made women out of adams rib. Or think jesus was really saying some metaphorical thing when jesus did that.

Well, if you're arguing from the position of god not exiting in the first place, then the counterargument could be that god decided to give the pope lung cancer to test him and thus make him a stronger man. If he dies from the cancer then... well... It's still god's plan. Sorry, you lose either way (heavy, HEAVY sarcasm meant)

Yep, a classic: suffering is part of God's plan. The real question is whether God could pull off his grand plan with less suffering. Is it really necessary to give infants leukemia to accomplish his goal? If yes, he's not all powerful. If no, he's an asshole. Then they sidestep to free will and sin, at which point you ask them who decided the consequences of sin in the first place.

The Christian response would be that God's plan is always right. Even apart from that, I don't think the lifespan of a pope would imply that God did something "wrong". It's not like the pope is getting picked to rule for as long as possible or something. It's not like a monarchy where people say things like "this dynasty shall rule for a thousand generations!"
