I suspect public executions don't have the intended impact of inflicting terror but rather are more likely to radicalise and galvanise family members and friends into swearing revenge when witnessed.

i don't think they're for terror? we did all those gizmos and drugs to make it appear more humane to appease the sensibilities of liberals who crave idealized death but are disgusted by personally witnessing the reality of it.

it's just wrapped around that firing squad is more reliable, has been romanticized in a lot of media, and we're way more desensitized to people getting shot than we were when it was phased out.

The US (and Europe) has a long and shameful history of using public executions for terror, especially to terrorize black people, indigenous people, and women. Not that this particular one is designed to do so but I wouldn't write it off yet.

Firing squads executions in media are almost always presented in a way sympathetic to the person being executed or failing that in a way sympathetic to an executioner who will be portrayed as haunted or traumatized by it.

While I think you are describing a real trend I'm not so sure the average lib is far along enough with the desensitization for this to not backfire.

    Now? sure

3 years from now after a democrat president has normalized public execution by going after "Russian assets"? I don't like those odds

I even think that we should bring back, y'know, public executions on certain people.

It should be public, it should be quick, it should be televised.

What are they trying to prove? I know things aren't going well for the usian military right now but I didn't think anyone doubted their ability to muster up a dozen working rifles given adequate prep time.

i mean, if they end up with a misfire that maims one of the shooters, or the shooter just bricks it and hurts himself/someone else and all this is public/livestreamed, what an incredible own goal for empire and kegsbreath.

They [the people in charge, they dont need to be overly unified] really want to reinforce the elements of this world that make it more brutal and miserable and I hate it

I've been thinking about the reality that this is the most right-wing nation in the world and how regular people are reluctant to hear that. I can point to show that any nation they may try to claim as further to the right may or may not do weird despotic shit like a public execution.

I don't believe it is a coincidence that the shooter is an ethic Palestinian.

Streaming it is ghoulish and I generally oppose the death penalty but tbqh if you're going to do it, something relatively reliable and fast - firing squad or guillotine - is FAR better than lethal injection, which is designed to look calm for onlookers but is actually torturous for the person being executed. Personally I doubt anything's more humane than M. Guillotin's invention.

I realise that, very few things are, but lethal injection is explicitly not even designed to kill people quickly. It appears peaceful only because the victim is injected with a paralytic. At least with a firing squad you can tell when it goes astray, and should be able to do something about it.

But they give you a smoke and it means 5 people have to do it which is good for labor.

Fent overdoses are probably the least cruel way to execute someone

Never had fentanyl but as a recovering addict I hear it's pretty much 100% non euphoric. Give them horse instead. Fentanyl is only more deadly because it's so potent at a genuinely tiny dose but there's no reason you can't just administer, like, 50 times as much heroin. Let them go out on a high note (hurr hurr)

Much more humane. Give them a solid hit for their size/tolerance, give them five - ten minutes to come up and enjoy it, then slowly push the OD.

Honestly, I say give them as much heroin as they could possibly want, and all the supplies. (It can be smoked, you don't have to shoot up). Give them an hour with, like, a PlayStation and other fun shit. Let them get as high as they like, with enough warning that if they wanna nod out they can. At the one hour mark, take them away and put them in the guillotine.

The most humane execution. The biggest downside is that sounds like a better way to go than suicide so you might have extremely depressed people doing awful crimes just so they can go out The Fun Way:P
