"I have not seen my grandson since august 7th of this year"

"AUGUST 7TH"

Ma'am thats like nothing. It took you less than two months for you to go from the "arguing with your relatives" stage to the "try to pass a state and/or federal law over it" stage? What the fuck?

Oh neat I’m sure this wouldn’t end up harming a lot of lgbtq families specifically! Plenty of boomers already try to abuse existing grandparents rights laws so this would make them very happy.

Between this and the pro-homeschooling/anti-sex ed, scared to leave their kids alone with the doctor stuff, I feel like the model for conservative parenthood is Josef Fritzl

I hate how there are still people on Twitter with good takes

Fox News has been pushing a narrative about "no contact adult children" trend for at least a year. In the link below, December 2025, Fox News blames Oprah Winfrey for inventing estrangement as if anyone under 50 watches Oprah.

Jokes on my conservative parents, I refused to have kids in part because I wanted to deny them grandkids. Can't make me show you grandkids I don't have think-about-it

Is that you James? It's Mom, I can't believe you did this to me and your father, I'm distraught. I'm going to Senator Fetterman's office tomorrow so that he can start work on legislation to make you denying us grandbabies CRIMINAL. How could you become a criminal just to make us look bad and feel bad? You must be so happy we can't go to the rally, church, or even Cracker Barrel without being embarrassed and ashamed. I saw the IDF has a unit that salvages sperm from their fallen heroes, maybe the Government can do something like that here.

Years ago when I realized I was trans but wasn't at a point where it was well known, my dad coerced me to get dinner with him and one of the things he did was try to pressure me into giving his grandkids. I just sipped on fruity drinks the whole time and told him I had no intention of having kids, knowing damn well it wouldn't be possible in the future.

Conservatives are cancer. They need to be dealt with as such.

The sooner we accept that there can be no peaceful solution to conservatism, the sooner we can finish Sherman's work and finally have peace.

burning down the confederacy is fun and all but Sherman participated in the genocide of native americans so you might want to reconsider using him as a symbol

It's true. He was a conservative and every genocide in human history has been carried out by conservatives. But that makes him even more qualified for the job. He follows orders like a good conservative, even when those orders are to kill his fellow cockroaches. So, he's the perfect choice.

(Also, mods frequently remove my comments when I make it sound like exterminating the enemy in a civil war is my idea. Invoking his name makes it HIS idea!)

If you want more context for the estranged parents subculture https://issendai.com/psychology/estrangement/

I dont agree with the author's ableist use of the term "narcissist" but they do a good job of summarizing whats going on with estranged parents groups

In general id recommend reading The Missing Missing Reasons to anyone wanting to understand why they cant get through to someone, or why it feels like you "cant" understand why someone has an issue with you (obviously not always applicable but a lot things in that link are good to do self crit on even if you aren't at estranged parent level bad)

Wait what's the way of talking about this that's not ableist? Everyone I know casually uses narcissist, this is genuinely the first time I'm hearing about this.

Narcissistic personality disorder doesn't inherently make someone an abuser and most cases of people calling someone abusive a "narcissist" or more commonly an "undiagnosed narcissist" are people deciding anyone they don't like has to have mental health issues that they aren't qualified to diagnose.

Think of it the same way a parents anxiety or depression can influence how they abuse their child but isnt the sole reason they abuse their child and it isn't accurate to say anxiety or depression inherently means youll abuse your kid.

As the other commentor replied, "narcissist" was used as an insult long before NPD was diagnosis. However, it is inherently ableist to name a disorder that stems from trauma as basically Bad Person Disorder

why did they use the word most people use for Bad Person in the name of a medical disorder? do we really need to rehab the word narcissist? shouldn't you be taking this up with the DSM for naming something Self-centered Asshole Disease?

they've renamed diagnosis before. Manic depression -> bipolar

why did they use the word most people use for Bad Person in the name of a medical disorder?

    Because they are ableist

do we really need to rehab the word narcissist?

We don't have to use it at all, if someone mean "abuser" or "bad person" they can use those words

shouldn't you be taking this up with the DSM for naming something Self-centered Asshole Disease?

I do have issues with the DSM, where did I say I excuse their use of it?

    Because they are ableist
I do have issues with the DSM, where did I say I excuse their use of it?

Wait, so are you saying it's ableist to use the word "narcissist" outside of a medical context, or that the DSM choosing that word for a medical diagnosis is ableist?

We don't have to use it at all, if someone mean "abuser" or "bad person" they can use those words

Those words mean different things. If I call someone an "abuser" and/or "bad person" I am not implying they have narcissistic tendencies or issues. Likewise when I call someone (who has not been diagnosed with the personality disorder) a narcissist, I am not calling them an abuser or even necessarily a bad person. It is also a matter of scope and specificity, with there being millions of ways that someone can be a "bad person" and narcissism can be one of the contributing factors. Just because a word is being used as an official diagnostic term does not suddenly make it ableist to use it in other ways or in other contexts.

Look, I am a disabled person and I have a personality disorder. Specifically, I have Avoidant Personality Disorder. It would be ridiculous of me or anyone else to say that we should stop using the word "avoidant" outside of a psychological diagnostic context. There is nothing ableist about referring to certain behaviors (or people who exhibit those behaviors) as being "avoidant" when we are talking about issues outside of the tiny narrow slice of the population who (like me) are diagnosed with the actual personality disorder that carries that name. "Avoidant" is a regular word that can be used in all sorts of contexts without being even slightly ableist. So too with narcissism or narcissist.

I am all for consciously and intentionally changing our vocabulary so as to remove the common ableism from it. I've even argued in the past about how we should not use insults like "moron" when it was more common to do so here. But it is also possible to go overboard and label the use of certain words as ableist when they are not. Sometimes that overzealousness, even if it comes from a good place, can do more harm than it does help, as far as encouraging people to recognize the casual ableism in their speech, when you apply it in genuinely inappropriate places.

I do think they're doing a "heads I win, tails you lose" style argument where they say calling someone colloquially a narcissist is inherently ableist because both it's not medically sound terminology a lot of the time but when it is medically-backed it's not allowed because they named a medical diagnosis after a pre-existing social phenomenon. So there's a conflation in terms happening here.

But they are also correct its dominant current usage is "person i don't like" with a vague air of being legitimized by its association to a medical diagnosis. I'd liken it to how right-wingers call every one they disagree with mentally ill, which we can see is definitely ableist.

My petty daughter called me selfish because my F-150 gets 3 mpg and IDGAF if my grandson has clean air to breathe and clear water to drink. My petty daughter called me a fascist because I said the people getting kidnapped and shot by ICE deserved it. My petty daughter called me a cultist because I go to made up Grande Olde Paedophile mid-term conventions for Great Leader. My petty daughter called me evil because I saw the US bomb a girls' school in Iran and I cheered and made fun of her when she cried.

There's probably more to that story besides the daughter being "petty".

You see, grandma just wanted to have time to herself to go have brunch and her petty daughter had the gall to say she was being overworked and underpaid and asked her mom if she could watch over her grandson a few times when she had to be at work.

Obviously it's the daughter's fault for not taking her mom's precious mimosa time into consideration before having a job that required her to find an alternative to unaffordable childcare in 2026.

I'm a 90%er, playing tge game to where I get to experience the vast majority of it, but without commiting to 100%. For some games it's just too daunting. For others (like LEGO® City Undercover™) I've 100%ed the game twice.

  • The nuclear family is the gestation stage of fascism, the little fiefdom that the chud gets to rule over, with his wife and kids as his unpersoned serfs. This is intended both as a reward for men's subservience to god and state, to ensure that the reproductive regime works smoothly, and to mirror the original AmeriKKKan dream, the plantation owner life, where every propertied white man lives comfortably off extracting the labor of everybody who is not a propertied white man.
