You reckon they will try the "teaching arabic numerals at school" thing again?

Average americans don't have a doctor they trust with a name like his

Mainly because average americans can't afford having a doctor

That’s my senator!

(Tanis lives in Oregon. She gives not one fuck about her location and whether it relates to other candidates representing her. She is not having of fucks, she is fuckless.)

I loved you in Borderlands.

Patricia Tannis killed someone for an office chair.

Tanis Nikana is at least twice that sane. If that can be quantified.

Potentially two people and one office chair. It's rather unclear.

I liked her more in Letterkenny

Hey you're that half-elf from Dragonlance

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 59 points 2 days ago

Damn, true tho. Also it's Michigan, a lot of michiganders know some Arab-Americans. This is like someone running for a New York office being criticized for being named Moses Goldstein. It's hard to find Arab names scary when you know an Ahmad and he's a chill dude

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 31 points 2 days ago

Most Arab and Middle Eastern peoples are, in my experience, pretty damn good people.

But really that applies to everyone. Most people from most places are pretty damn good people.

Hot take: immigrants are on average better people because they're willing to make difficult personal sacrifices, outside their comfort zone, in a different culture, to help their family.

[-] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Adding they also feel social pressure to be a "model immigrant" or "one of the good ones" to racists.

And that there are spectrums everywhere in life

In the southern half, maybe. The southeast, more likely. The northern half - don't count on it. Looking at the polling I'll be gobsmacked if he wins any jurisdictions above a line from grand rapids to Saginaw. And there'll be a lot of red on that map below that too.

Yes, I know land doesn't vote, but there's a lot of combined votes to offset with diminishing populations and plenty of voter suppression in the big SE cities.

I remember kindly the doctor who cared for my kid when they were a baby. I cannot pronounce or spell his name, but he was great.

[-] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Shout-out to Mena Abrahim, who I trust not with my own health but with my kids, which is more important than me.

His name or how he looked (except his resemblance to a good friend of mine) was never of import. He was a good doctor, still is although we are fortunate enough to not see him too much anymore. Which is kinda sad, unless you're a PCP,, you're there for people when they're suffering, and then you disappear off their radar. But when I get a sinus infection, I'll hit him up.

ist Osama like the „jack“ of the arabic world?

[-] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 29 points 2 days ago

Every name mentioned here is super common. They're just written in a scary foreigner language from the Quran instead of a white people language like... Uhh... Hebrew...

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 9 points 2 days ago

Nope. It's not rare, but it's not like every Arab knows an Osama or anything like that.

[-] zaph@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago

I don't know a jack so it still checks out

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago

Say his name!

[-] DrPop@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I learned how to say my Drs name, and everytime I'd call to schedule an appointment the tech would have no idea what I was talking about. I had to call her by her first name.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Man needs to hit them with a full on Kyle Fletcher promo. Say his full name

[-] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

My psychiatrist is Faisal. My PCP is Rustambir.

Where does one get Rustambir PCP? I'm asking for a friend...

[-] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

In my case Peach Tree Health, Sacramento.

Shit PCP grows on trees down there? No wonder why Americans are so crazy.

[-] kSPvhmTOlwvMd7Y7E@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago

I have no idea what this means.
