Italy calling for Spain to be removed from the Schengen area is crazy. Gerald Knaus: There's two simple facts, in the last three years there are more people who arrived irregularly in Italy than in Spain. Spain was much better at reducing arrivals. And at the same time, Spain is cooperating with other European countries in taking back people who arrive in Spain and then go on to France or Germany. Spain is taking them back. Its the Star performer in Dublin in the Mediterranean. Italy on the other hand is taking back nobody for the last 3 years. Last year Spain accepted a 1900 people from France. Italy accepted zero. So for Georgia Meloni now to say hey Spain is not playing by the rules, when Italy has more irregular migrants and completely obstructs the Dublin system, that's a bit rich... Source: Nieuwsuur 31-07
The Moroccan government weaponized its own population's hope for a better future against Spain, likely due to territorial disputes between the two countries and Pedro Sanchez's recent diplomatic visit to Algeria.
The scale of this operation, combined with the online campaign and the fact that it coincided with a Moroccan national holiday, seems to point to a covert attempt at hybrid warfare by the state, rather than a case of human trafficking networks.
And instead of showing solidarity, certain European leaders (especially in Italy, but also in Denmark and elsewhere) decided to exploit the situation for political campaigning. Quite sad.
Yeah I heard that too, this doesn't just happen. On the one hand, there is a ruling by the Spanish Supreme Court stating that anyone who reaches Ceuta can apply for asylum and may not be returned to Morocco; that has undoubtedly had an impact. But it is also a land border between Europe and Africa that is jointly controlled. Europe wants to externalize the asylum and migration policy. To do so, they would have to cooperate, and that entails risks. And then as you said there's indeed speculation that Spain has sought rapprochement with Algeria, so marocco sort of permitted or tolerated this surge. Externalizing your immigration policy requires good partners. It could therefore potentially be used as leverage.
Spain's 2015 Aliens Act had a special rule for Ceuta and Melilla allowing immediate handover to Morocco.
On 29 June the Supreme Court ruled (STS 814/2026) that someone swimming around the fence hasn't climbed anything, so the fast-track rule doesn't cover them. They get the ordinary return procedure instead: identified, lawyer, chance for asylum.
True, Ceuta doesn't get you to Spain. The point isn't instant onward travel, it's that Ceuta converts you from someone with no legal standing into someone inside a process. Unaccompanied minors can't be deported at all (they fall under child protection law)
When the enclave overflows, Spain has historically moved people across simply for lack of space.
And time on Spanish soil starts counting toward arraigo (regularisation after two years of continuous residence).
It's all a distraction from taxing wealth. The more people talk about this crap, the less they focus their gaze upwards, where the billionaires are pulling the strings.
This is on multiple levels. Russia and the US have allied to push far-right propaganda onto Europe. For what reason? Well, both are far-right oligarchies. And both dream of taking over what's left of democracy with their imperialist attitudes (Russia's eurasianism and US' neoreactionaries)
You got it all wrong! The wealth tax and billionaires pulling the strings is just a distraction from the Epstein files! /s

And for all this more than 60 people lost their lives.
Quick question.
Why is Ceuta part of Spain to begin with?
Ceuta and Melilla were part of Spain centuries before the country of Morocco existed. They were, and are, full provinces, and the population have always been full citizens. How do you determine what territory belongs to what political entity? The subject is extremely complex, not just In this case, but worldwide.
600 or so years ago it was conquered. So the question is pretty much the same as why is Catalonia part of Spain or any other of their regions.
Catalonia, a part of the old Kingdom of Aragón, was never conquered. It united with Castile by marriage, and formed the nucleus of modern Spain, like so many kingdoms in European history.
The whole "Catalonia is an oppressed invaded country" narrative is a political tool.
You can add a layer of depth that part of Spain is a British colony, so whem you takk to Spain about Ceuta, they talk about Gibraltar.
Why did they come?
Why did they come?
These poor people are likely being used as pawns by the Moroccan government. Surely they've been lied to.
Achraf Maimouni, a member of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, described the situation as “exceptional”. He said the Tarajal border had been opened “under unusual circumstances” on Thursday morning and people had crossed over.

A Spanish judge ruled that migrants found by Spains police at sea, should be taking to safety in Spain and be granted the right to a full asylum procedure, influencers jumped on this and spread videos online and motivated people to come, thats how it snowballed
.
Thats what the full asylum procedure is for, to really understand what your situation is, cause some people are still threatened by something even if its a safe country and can get asylum but yeah you don't get asylum for lack of jobs and low wages, no... so they should apply at work agencies to get a work visa's lel semi /s or we could make their and our economy better by having free trade so they don't have the incentive to emigrate iguess?
People desperate to earn money, being played to make a political statement.
I was curious as well, and apparently this is not random: two countries are behind this, investigations are ongoing. Two countries, I won't name names because I don't have proof. But you know who they are due to recent world events
Two countries that are upset with Spain because they failed to support their illegal genocidal activities ? One of whom has a strong relationshio with Morocco ? I wonder who that could be.
