(Removed for being a popular opinion)
Wait there was a DDOS too?
The developer posted a farewell rant on their website, and included JavaScript to send like 1k requests to an instance he had blocked in the secret ban list.
If you've ever seen a childish internet troll rant at being caught, then you're already familiar with the post.
Every internet dorkass just has to make their own snowflake manifesto lol
2000 requests per page load
Isn't that action both illegal and traceable?
illegal? Yes. Traceable? No.
His code was broken and it didn't actually work to ddos anything.
For some reason that makes it funnier.
Oh yeah, he slipped code into his site to have visitors query db0 a few hundred times. Real piece of shit behavior. And illegal.
Why them specifically? Fuck if I know.
Ah, I think from what I know of the rest of the incident it would be because db0 admins found and publicized the blacklist
What a ridiculous response. And objectively displays their emotional stake in keeping their filter secret, despite repeatedly saying that it was never a secret.
They’ll definitely return for “revenge” at least thrice more, and they’re absolutely sitting in a ball of stress for at least a week as a result of being found out and ostracized.

It brings me great joy to think about the tesseract guy's emotional state right now.
Oh, they’re utterly pissed off and frantically bouncing between moral equivalencies all day today. No question. I was at least on the fence until the DDOS. That prick is torturously stewing in a spicy solipsistic soup and he deserves every second of it.
I think one of theirs ratted him out
Yep. The dev claimed that they were being targeted by an organized campaign led by dbzero. So he put a script on the website to use the vistor's browser to attack dbzero.
You just earned a spot on the list buddy
Sigh. Must be nice.
I'm still trying to get on that list, Admiral cucktits.
This was a guy to proclaimed himself normal, thought he was the arbiter of normality on the internet, wanted his place cordoned off for only who he deemed normal people. People like that on mod teams are why reddit subs were so easy for chuds to infiltrate and makeover
I guess they forgot to remove him. If you look at his profile, it's the only community left that he moderates outside of dubvee.
What a giant piece of shit that guy is.
I thought that little bitch quit Lemmy entirely?
He says he did. But he quit last year and came back two weeks later. Plus he has a bunch of alts on other instances.
That doesn't sound like a normal mod. That sounds like someone paid to do a job. Like a disinfo agent manipulating information.
Who tf had time for that?
Exactly. Dude was running at least one instance, modding a bunch of communities, running a bunch of alt accounts, and building Tesseract with a super long and very specific blocklist.
Paid actor or independently wealthy.
Glad someome else sees that as a possible scenario. Since nobody else said anything, I was about to take my tin foil hat and sit in the corner alone.
I got you. I'll grab my tinfoil hat and join you.
I'm confused. If I agree am I supposed to downvote this?
yes actually. the most unpopular opinions are supposed to rise to the top and the most duh everyone thinks that are supposed to get buried.
Yeah? Well, that’s just, like, your unpopular opinion, man.
Yeah. I think that needs to be stickied/pinned comment in every thread.
That's more of a guideline than a rule
That's not an unpopular opinion! Oh wait- sorry. Habit.
I don't think anyone other than Hitler clones should be a mod of this community. Change my mind or shoot my neck.
The real unpopular opinion is always in the comments.
The real unpopular opinions are always in the comments.
But they already are.
Unpopular Opinion
Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!
How voting works:
Vote the opposite of the norm.
If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.
Guidelines:
Tag your post, if possible (not required)
- If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
- If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].
Rules:
1. NO POLITICS
Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.
2. Be civil.
Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...
Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.
5. No trolling.
This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.
6. Defend your opinion
This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.
Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
