Brother, may i have some oats?
Overnight oats are amazing though. We always called them summer oatmeal, and make them so fancy. I had some last week with pineapple tepache (so they were fermented), yogurt, cherries and pineapple and shedded coconut, this week I am doing the same, with macadamia nuts & pepitas not cherries.
Tiny house I do not. I don't think most of them are even made to code here, not gonna be safe in a storm.
Gig economy - I know that if I had a business I would never treat my workers like that, it's evil. You cannot even say your business is successful if you need slaves to make it so. It's not.
Correct. Youtube algorithm actually put a Gruel video in my feed which made me laugh
Tiny homes and overnight oats are not the problem. Tiny homes can actually solve a lot of issues with the affordability crisis and are great for single people or couples. I am very satisified with my 600ish sqft house. Its about as big as most apartments i could rent anyway. Plus tiny homes have smaller bills to pay and less space to keep clean.
What many people call a "tiny home" would have just been a regular home 50 years ago. We dont all need 3 story detached houses with 3 car garages and 2 acres of depressing monoculture grass lawns.
Tiny homes are a problem. They are a bandaid to make people feel better. We need more Medium density housing that allows people to live with dignity instead of cramming them into dollhouses. And no a tiny house is not the same size as a regular house in the 70s. It's 400sqrft compared to 1500 sqrft , get real
Most people in the world live in much smaller spaces like 50m² / 500sqft apartment incl. children. The USA has very low population density. But yeah we need higher urban density.
The official definition of a tiny home is 150-400 sqft but in practice i find people refering to something the size of a mobile home or smaller a "tiny home". This is typically anything under 1000 sqft which is plenty for singles or couples. It's still below the average home size, but the average home would also be housing 3-5, people rather than 1-2.
I agree that medium density housing is also desperately needed, and those medium density units could still come in a range of sizes.
If you eat overnight oats to save time to get to work, then you are a tool.
If you eat overnight oats because you like the taste or because it saves on energy, then I don't judge.
What's wrong with "saving" time? I'd rather make overnight oats and have a more chill morning rather than rush to make a meal.
And low key overnight oats are way tastier than most porridges people make. Make it with almond milk and yogurt, smush in a banana, add cinnamon and honey and before eating sprinkle on some cashew nuts. Absolute god tier breakfast.
No no no, sorry. Saving time is not the problem. Life is meant to be enjoyed and if it makes your morning more enjoyable and chill, then I am all for it. The problem is the corporate grind culture which proritizes work over life e.g. "make over night porridge so you don't waste time on breakfast to get to work faster"
Why do you need to judge either way?
Because life is more important than work and anyone who claims otherwise is a tool.
Do I want to know what overnight oats are?
If you like oatmeal but think “Hmm.. this could be colder… and slimier… 🤔”
Add some cocoa powder to it, mix it up, let it cool off in the fridge and enjoy 😋 very delicious and simple, maybe throw in even some frozen fruits yummy
It's a cold version of porridge where the oats are soaked overnight instead of being heated fresh.
Raw porridge basically. Add some nuts and raisins, let it soak overnight. 😚👌
Less slimy than cooked porridge imho.
If someone has a problem with the general slimines, you can eat just oatmeal with milk (or substitute), and whatever dressings you like. It is quite tasty, if you add sugar, and some raisins. No need to soak or boil.
I have banana, raisins and oat milk. It's great!
I don't like cold oats, BUT I do really like Steel Cut oats, in a slow cooker with a light timer attached to it on low.
Mix it all up in the evening, light timer turns on 3 hours before I wake up, turns on crockpot, light timer turns off 30 minutes before I wake up. Nice hot, fully cooked breakfast in the morning.
Do not listen to people who say it’s slimy. Idk what the hell they are putting in it for it to be slimy.
My go-to is milk, brown sugar, and steel cut oats overnight. In the morning I’ll add diced strawberries and blueberries or banana. Awesome breakfast that’s extremely healthy. If you want even more sweetness you can add some maple syrup.
Honestly, overnight oats are great. Add some raisins and nuts (in the evening), it's a perfect meal. Much better than cooked porridge, which is much more "peasanty" anyhow.
I like gale's comparison otherwise. Reminds me of John Lennon.
That's just dumb. Peasants got WAY more days off.
Because they needed those days for labor on themselves to not die. Like preserving food, making soap/candles, and doing things around the house.
Thanks to capitalism, all of that time can now be spent toiling for your ~~masters~~ ~~lords~~ ~~owners~~ stake holders!
Edit: Late edit to clarify that industrialization isn't capitalism, and that's what actually made it possible.
TBH overnight oats are amazing and super good for you
And muesli is a superior version of overnight oats, and you should give it a try because it adds fruit and a lot of different nuts.
Toss in some Greek yogurt, maybe some honey or maple syrup for flavor and sweetness, and it is freakin' delicious.
And if you're interested, it'll make you regular as all hell.
You can put fruit and nuts in oatmeal. I also put dried coconut, cocoa powder, psyllium husk, and chia seeds
Muesli is amazing. Quick, easy, delicious, crunchy and chewy.
And for people with physical disabilities it can mean a better breakfast than would normally be possible.
Overnight oats are bad now? I think it's way superior compared to more expensive options like cereal.
Its not "bad" its just got a similar ingredient list to "gruel" suggesting we've just rebranded feudalism in the 'grind culture' sphere. It fully depends on whether people are eating them by choice or financial necessity.
"Gruel" implies like really thin and minimally nutritious oatmeal. We can make hearty oatmeal with all sorts of shit in it
Why does it have to be mixed? I'd rather dump a couple of instant oatmeal packets in a bowl, add a cup of microwaved water, then eat a banana, yogurt, egg etc alongside. Something I never got about the breakfast smoothies either.
Smoothies are more portable than what you have described. It is also good for people trying to gain weight because liquids are easier to eat than solid foods. Most smoothies or overnight oats will also be healthier than instant oatmeals.
When did fuckers forget the word 'porridge'. Oats are an ingredient.
I go crazy for my overnight oats. My current go-to flavor is blueberry matcha. Heat your milk of choice in a small saucepan, throw in a teaspoon of matcha powder for every cup of milk. I also like to add a little turmeric and ginger powder for immune support. I'll add that to my oats, then top it off with mango-flavored yogurt and cooked blueberries. When I eat it, I sprinkle homemade granola on top.
Best breakfast ever, I don't give a FUCK if I'm a peasant bro. They can take my oats from my cold, dead hands.
I mean, it's not really overnight oats if you're not leaving them in the fridge for the night
or maybe someone who is just getting through life? god damn, why we judging people for choosing to live within their means, now?
smaller electric bills, don't have to heat an entire 2 storey house with empty rooms you don't use.
maybe they just like overnight oats. they're good for you. they give you good poops.
maybe they also just don't like a 9-5 schedule. that's an option you can choose.
this is just shaming someone for living their life.
why we judging people for choosing to live within their means, now?
Because, we are all "just getting through life" while thr Epstein class rapes our children and kills our families. Instead of fucking around playing the capitalism "game", they should be protesting in the streets and voting with the rest of us.
Sure, but that has fuckall to do with oatmeal
how do you know they aren't? some dude eating oats in his boxers in his tiny kitchen isn't going to enable the Epstein class any more than the middle-income family home is.
why is he the only one that gets shit on?
Sharon with a 3 story home and a den with a grand piano that nobody has ever touched isn't on display for shaming here. someone living within their budget is.
so...fuck that person I guess?
