Tiny homes and overnight oats are not the problem. Tiny homes can actually solve a lot of issues with the affordability crisis and are great for single people or couples. I am very satisified with my 600ish sqft house. Its about as big as most apartments i could rent anyway. Plus tiny homes have smaller bills to pay and less space to keep clean.
What many people call a "tiny home" would have just been a regular home 50 years ago. We dont all need 3 story detached houses with 3 car garages and 2 acres of depressing monoculture grass lawns.
Tiny homes are a problem. They are a bandaid to make people feel better. We need more Medium density housing that allows people to live with dignity instead of cramming them into dollhouses. And no a tiny house is not the same size as a regular house in the 70s. It's 400sqrft compared to 1500 sqrft , get real
Most people in the world live in much smaller spaces like 50m² / 500sqft apartment incl. children. The USA has very low population density. But yeah we need higher urban density.
The official definition of a tiny home is 150-400 sqft but in practice i find people refering to something the size of a mobile home or smaller a "tiny home". This is typically anything under 1000 sqft which is plenty for singles or couples. It's still below the average home size, but the average home would also be housing 3-5, people rather than 1-2.
I agree that medium density housing is also desperately needed, and those medium density units could still come in a range of sizes.
