Reminds me of all the christian nationalists shrieking about sharia law when their ideal government is like 80% identical to that. There are many examples of this phenomenon.

Honestly it's the only thing that gives me hope. The right is so powerful and obedient but its various sects somehow hate each other even more than leftists do.

They are united in their hatred of us.

It’s a shame about Sam Harris. I used to admire him and read his books, but he started losing his grip on reality several years ago.

[-] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 3 days ago

Yeah I was a big fan when I was young, such an unexpected character arc.

[-] Enkrod@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

Same with his Terfiness Richard Dawkins

Zionists, it's not a theocracy. it's a liberal democracy. with an official religion, no gay marriage, anti miscegenation laws, and great replacement theory being the national ideology. And doing a genicide.

i know the second one is maher, whos the other 3.

[-] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 3 points 2 days ago

Outer left is David Pakman, a youtube news/content guy. Mostly covers anti Trump material but afaik is on the aipac payroll or something along those lines. Also does ad reads and has a somewhat condescending/unauthentic tone to his delivery.

Mid right is Sam Harris. Used to be a very prominent debater for Atheism. Nowadays he is defending Israel all the time with very weird pretzels.

Outer right, dunno ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[-] stepan@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

Very far right is Gad Saad

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

i thought i recognize pakman, hes been showing up on youtube feeds, i dont even visit political or news channels. so sam is like maher sort of,. because i know the "political" ones that are on the feed always have a biased narrative im not surprised. GAD saad is on the far right picture, apparently he is claims to be aethiest but he also professes a religious jewish identity, so basically another maher he doesnt seem to be well known as the other 3.

[-] Slovene85@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 days ago

Wait, David Pakman? I haven't seen his videos in a while, is he really on Israel's side?

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I believe he is or was taking AIPAC money, which led to him not reporting on Israel atrocities. Not sure if it's changed since I stopped clicking on his stuff a couple years baxk

[-] Jhex@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I haven't seen his stuff in a while either but he used to complain about Israel's abuses… not sure what happened or if this graphic is just inaccurate

[-] Waldelfe@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

He is from a Jewish family. He keeps explaining that he's an atheist, but people still accuse him of being a zionist. From what I've heard he's mostly pragmatic about it, saying Isreal is wrong about a lot of things but also the reality is that its neighbors and Hamas keep calling for the total eradication of Jews so what do you expect them to do. He's also called out the Netanyahu government for being corrupt. So basically a "both sides are wrong" kind of position.

Having a cult revolving around being ~~ancestors~~ descendants of a long dead culture wasn't great when the Nazis did it either.

[-] flightyhobler@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

ancestors

Descendants?

[-] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus -5 points 3 days ago

If they were actual theologians and not zionists abusing their religion as a cudgel, they wouldn't be genocidal maniacs. Judaism itself is pretty staunchly against being a murderous bastard.

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

riiight. Unless you're a midianite. Or someone calls you Amalek, then all bets are off isnt that accurate to say? All the descendents of amalak must be killed, regardless of their innocence. Their race is all that matters. Commanded by god to Moses, right.

Any of that untrue?

[-] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus -1 points 3 days ago

Every religion has their enemy laid out in scripture; It's important to see that even if there are "enemies" defined in a religious movement, that all of those people still have the option of living the pacifist variant of their religion.

I personally am an atheist, but i am able to see that there are many religious movements out there that substantially improve the life of people. I - sadly - recognize that the moment you mix religion with nationalism you achieve a mindset where everything that isn't according to the most hardline shit in your scripture becomes heresy. I simply postulate that theologians free of nationalist impulses tend to be a much more positive influence on society.

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Every religion has their enemy laid out in scripture

Actually not really all that true. Its pretty much the Abrahamic religions who designate enemies in their scriptures, and both Muslim and christans sprang from judaism. The other religions focus on balance.

Jainism, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, atheism, most Native American religions, and Satanic temple do not have an enemy in their scriptures.

These myths and stories tell people who they are, whats expected of them, and how to act. When your stories are bloodthirsty and include genocide like its no big deal, well, thats the worldview people model their behaviors after. Theres some psychotic stuff in the abrahamic religions.

[-] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 2 points 2 days ago

I was thinking specifically about the abrahamic religions when writing that. There are many religious organizations in that space that really stand by the words "love thy neighbor", and even if i think that religious belief is akin to a psychosis, i can appreciate those that try to reduce barriers and be there for vulnerable people.

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 0 points 3 days ago

And parts of the Koran tell you to kill anyone who isn’t Muslim. So here we are.

[-] decolo@piefed.social 7 points 3 days ago

You are correct, and yet people should be allowed to practice Islam as long as they aren't harming others. The same with Judaism and Christianity.

The same with driving a vehicle, owning guns, and consuming alcohol or other drugs. Being part of society demands personal responsibility.

If an individual is failing to be responsible, society should attempt to help them recover stability, rather than punish immorality.

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago

Except when I say the exact same thing as the parent comment, except I switch the religion, I get downvotes. It’s all so stupid.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 2 days ago

Uh... no? That's not a thing. All verses of the Quran about killing people are in the context of warfare, which, well, yeah.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 2 days ago

AFAIK the actual Jewish theologians of Israel and their followers tend to back the genocidal right.

If they were actual theologians and not zionists abusing their religion as a cudgel, they wouldn't be genocidal maniacs.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Like okay, you can definitely practice your own religion in a liberatory way...but actual theologians are usually complete wackos.

[-] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 2 points 3 days ago

I personally am an atheist. from what i have seen in my life, i have formed the opinion that people living their religion with the intent of being good are actually not harming someone, but are strengthening communities. I sadly have to agree that there are sooooo many people out there using religion as an excuse to abuse and murder.

It's the same with islam or christianity. if you want to use it to make your world better, you will probably focus on the part where you welcome your neighbor and support your community - many religious communities act this way. But the moment where you start othering people using religion, you aren't really following your belief anymore, you are using it as a weapon; and if you mix it with a nationalist movement, you get shit like the Zionists or ISIS.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 1 points 2 days ago

Minor nitpick: ISIS is explicitly not nationalist. Islamists in general think nationalism is bullshit because it contradicts Islam.

[-] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 1 points 2 days ago

Its a bit like instead of nationalism abusing religion, its religion abusing nationalsim... same same
