These 15 minute nutcases are protesting all over the city near my town, and I'm not even British. This absurd right wing delusion is spreading outside of Britain

I had to talk down a hippie that I work with about this. It's so fucking weird that people think the government is just openly proposing putting the entire population in camps for no reason, but yknow, real actual existing oppression is totally ignored.

As an urban theorist and historian how do you think this would be less difficult than bombing a suburb?
Suburbs are more spread out so obviously the chances of my house hit are getting lower.

I've heard that american suburbs took off in the 50s in part because of cold war fears of nuclear attack. (mostly white) middle class people with the means to move out tried to get away from bomb targets, and the government funded highways as a way to evacuate cities in an emergency and to encourage sprawl for "civil defense"
How much of an effect did it have compared to regular old capital flight (aka white flight)? That seems like a much more compelling reason to me
They also wanted to live as far away from black people as possible. I don't think it would protect you much against the kind of saturation bombing they're using on Gaza

"Urban theorist" is an even more useless title than urban planner lmao. At least urban planners want to do good, they're just ignored until they rubber-stamp pre-planmed prestige projects by the government.
There's fuck-all to theorize, what's good has been known for ages. The issue is not knowing what's good, but implementing it

Highly debatable and more of a case by case basis. You get a lot of them coming at it from an "engineering" standpoint and fully carbrained
I suppose, though in my personal experience it's more a question of having your soul crushed and giving up at some point. Most planners I've interacted with want to - or at least started out with wanting to - do good. It's just incredibly difficult to do anything other than MORE ROAD or BIG EXPENSIVE OFFICE.
Oh I don't even mean the broken down people, not judging by the official position or what they actually do even, I get the constraints.
But even discounting those the field is still littered with fully car brained people entirely on board with whatever next planning crime is currently being done
