archive (e: twitter [archive] too, archive for nitter seems a bit funky)

it'd be nice if these dipshits, like, came off a factory line somewhere. then you could bin them right at the QC failure

I have enough evidence to hate him

eshear tweets: This is the worst part of programming for sure. The best environment for avoiding this problem that lets you build actual production software is pure clientside browser JavaScript apps. No compiler, 100% cross platform. Main downside is v. quirky UX w CSS and DOM.

100% cross platform

also

Main downside is CSS and DOM.

Yeah should have just stuck with "at least it's a scripting language" (that doesn't support 64bit integers out of the box).

Straight to jail.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

Wow people are not nearly scared enough of getting paper clipped.

I can see why Microsoft preferred the old CEO. The new guy is harboring anti-clippy thoughts!

@dgerard @froztbyte

Why can’t we have normal CEOs again.

Also his resume seems awfully light to be CEO of an organization of supposedly world-historical importance.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

CEOs have always been like this, it just used to be fashionable to try to hide it

undoubtedly he acquired his savvy for statistics during his brief cameo in HPMOR

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (4 children)

He what...

Amazing how sneering at this weird internet subculture has gotten so mainstream so fast.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I feel like such a hipster. "I hated them before it was cool!"

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

While you partied and had polyamorous sex, I studied the basilisk watchers!

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

There's a 404media story about it now.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

those vile sneerers, increasing existential risk by quoting our own words from a few months ago

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I fell off after /r/SneerClub closed but these headlines are really bringing the band back together.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

the first one of those is him arguing against the following claim: women being kinky is evidence that they're desperate degenerates who have been impoverished by women's lib. I fully support what he's saying there

the others are exactly what you would expect lol

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

I dug into that subthread a bit and some of the extended downthread replies are a bit weird, but the dynamic they observe about is definitely a problematic thing and I agree there too

Also holy fuck those tiktok screenshots..

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

He does seem to be employing dubious statistics, though. At leat based on the screenshot ...he shared...

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The TPOT people are mad at you guys for this lmao.

"Freedom of expression is very important, as long as no-one finds it".

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

…and other bangers from the same crowd who is vociferously all about POSTING (so that people can find your shit)

They’re comparing the rape fantasy stuff to racial crime stats on one thread.

TIL eigenrowboat is still thotleadering

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

They’re still convinced sneerclub is behind everything.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Well we are, I have written thousands of bots ready to manipulate public opinion on twitter. On that note, anybody know what: "SyntaxError: expected ':'" means? Help me my python is dying.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wait, we aren't??? You mean I'm getting these SorosBidenBux for nothing?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

As far as I know they don’t know about this place and think we scattered to the winds.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

it would Increase Utility if they knew about it, but then also @self and @dgerard would have more work

need some complicated Yud-math to solve this very clear intrinsically conflicted dilemma

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

there’s comedy in them not knowing, and there’s also comedy in them knowing

we can’t go back to not knowing from knowing, so I’m enjoying the not knowing era of awful.systems while it lasts

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The new location is literally, not figuratively, in the sticky comment on the top post at the old place. But that's probably asking too much of their reading skills.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

one does not simply read the notice board when entering Satan Church

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

btw idle suggestion to trim all the gunk on your URLs (the ?s=46&t=nT....) when sticking 'em into archivers, otherwise permas the trackershit

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

running our links through a tracker cleanup library by default (with an option to turn it off for edge cases) might be some good low hanging fruit once I’m doing lemmy features again (I need to start keeping a list of these)

e: my brain completely skipped over the fact that the tracker links are being archived. still, squashing tracker shit on our end has been in the back of my head for a while

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’ve been eyeballing a solution for doing this on phone, and basilisk help me it might need to be a fucking app (because all other options are worse)

I fucking hate apple’s bullshit walled garden self-protectionist feature-hampering stance on things so fucking much (the app store dev license fee; the hobbled browsers; the pageforcing that a lot of the internet has started doing and which the reduced feature scope of mobile safari explicitly blocks you from handling; …)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

shit, dm me if you find anything. I used to have a Pythonista script that’d strip some types of tracking out of links, but it’s hideously out of date and didn’t tie that well into my workflow (it was a share extension that’d drop the cleaned up link onto the clipboard)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (4 children)

There's a firefox addon: https://github.com/ClearURLs/Addon and it's rules db: https://github.com/ClearURLs/Rules

You can maybe repurpose something from this?

My takeaway reading that was basically "Sure there are emboldened Neo-nazis marching in the streets who literally want to genocide people like you in particular. But they don't want to kill me so I'm more concerned about real problems: an out of control paperclip factory."

Also jeez how much cool-aid do you have to drink to start tweeting "the end of all value" instead of "earth go explodey and everyone dead :(". If I didn't know about the AI weirdos I would have assumed it was some sort of capitalistic nightmare.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

End of all value is different from earth go explody. They're fine with earth go explody as long as there's a second, slightly larger earth to replace it with more value.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Desperation of delusion. "End of all value" => "I don't understand things, so I better at least have control!" I wonder if these kinds of people would send literal Nazis to my doorstep if I suggested that I don't have any stake either way in the "coin flipping on the end of my world view."

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

For posterity:

The Nazis were very evil, but I'd rather the actual literal Nazis take over the world forever than flip a coin on the end of all value.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Yeah sure the future is a boot stamping on a human face forever, but at least it has value now".

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Think of all the boots you could sell. And the leather coat upsell opportunities! The market provides!

(/s, ofc)

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Least reprehensible Gamer take.
