I didn't see anyone mention it here or over on blahaj and the first I've heard of it was from a massive lib I know that just recently came out. So I was wondering.

Imagining Woof with his pockets stuffed full of those overpriced grocery store specialty cheeses and jams, while a giant red arrow points downward with the word "TRANSGENDER" blinking directly above it.

One should be aware of transgender every week

Ironically, no cis person seems to be aware of transgender awareness week before it's already on the news. I really do not see how this can be a co-opted event, this isn't a pride month main attraction that corporations latch onto for some cheap pinkwashing, it's a small number of trans people freezing their asses off while they hold a candlelight vigil in shitty November weather. Yes, people itt rightfully criticize that liberal activism stops at the awareness stage, but that doesn't mean you do not need activism aimed at creating awareness, it just means you should ultimately move beyond it to organizing and finally action. Given how incredibly ignorant and actively disinformed people are about trans issues, i wouldn't outright discard any awareness campaign around a trans issue, particularly not one that centers on remembrance of those who've been violently taken from us by transphobia.

Also, i'm kinda worn out by this idea that people here only love their trans comrades. My support of trans rights isn't conditional on somebody being not a lib, trans rights are human rights and are non-negotiable.

I'm gonna make some people really fucking aware meow-knife-trans

Makes it a bugger to hide for seven days, gotta hold back on the sneaky stuff during transgender awareness week.

Serious head for a second: I always forget it's a thing, no-one cares about it in my local queer community and I rarely see it mentioned online.

Transgender awareness weak kelly

Ace awareness week is like tumbleweeds in places too, it's sad that people aren't more vocal or spread more awareness on things. It's important to make people aware and to get them thinking.

"Awareness" always sets off liberal bells in my brain. Liberals love to do political action with the only goal being spreading awareness, but not any material changes. If it was like trans week of celebration or something I would be into it

"We just wanna make sure every Transgender individual has Access To human rights."

This year is the first I'm hearing about it, ngl. Maybe an attempt to have something a little less grim than Trans Remembrance Day? These "awareness weeks" do not seem to be going that well though...

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, apparently the week is supposed to build up to remembrance day?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago

That's even weirder, huh...

Oh, it's this week? I wasn't aware. (ba dum tss)

The event is probably a good thing. Many people's only knowledge of trans people is from sports news and internet pornography, neither of which paint us in a good light. Trans people self-advocating and being visible (at minimum) is necessary.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Transgender? This is the first I'm hearing of it.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Are you telling me a trans gended this er

i am cis (quoting text mentioning violence and suicide)I thought it was transgender day of remembrance. I found out about it from a blog post linking to this website: https://tdor.xyz/

It says:

On Transgender Day of Rememberance, we come together to read the names of those who have been lost to violence and suicide in the last year.

As we read each name, we will light a candle for the person who we have lost.

This year, the list contains 67 souls. Together, we can keep them in our hearts and keep fighting against transphobia.

Each year, this list is too long. Someday, we will not need this list. Someday, we will all be accepted.

The week is supposed to build up to remembrance day, apparently.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago

Yeah I didn't know it was a thing tbqh

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 months ago

I've brought it to someone's attention today.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

I thought it was TRAINS-Awareness. Aw, I'll put away my conductor hat.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

I use TAW as an excuse to talk about trans issues with people I'm not out to. This year I wrote about a manga written by a trans woman called Boku ga Watashi ni Naru Tame ni; I wrote some more about the intersection of the trans and autistic communities; and I have a few more essays that I want to finish and share either today or on TDOR.

The text I translated was as part of trans awareness week. I just try to see it without too much judgement. Ok, we get some lights up, some people see us, we get to talk, sometimes the liberals do it, sometimes the commies do it. Important thing is that the only thing that's worse than not being seen is being seen and then ignored, so you gotta push past that imo. (Very hot take, ik) How you do depends on your local conditions, ig.
