Tonight I'm going to go down the national seashore and try some astrophotography.

The galactic center of the Milky Way will be over some jetties/dunes so I'm gonna try and take pictures of it. There's still a little moon left so it won't be the best but other conditions are ideal. No clouds no haze etc.

I've been plonking down money over the last year on a good prime lens, a good eq mount, and a decent camera. I finally have everything I need, and my schedule for tonite/tomorrow changed in my favor.

I've been looking forward to this for so long the fact that I get to finally go do it is pretty wild. I'm doing some absolutely bargain basement astrophotography but I've been pursuing it since I took a photo of the galactic center with a five year old iPhone a couple years ago.

I have a 55-200mm kit lens that I'm going to try using for a couple nebula photos too since I now have a working tracker.

I am doing some digital spring cleaning. I used to be very meticulous about keep my shit organized but fell out of it when I went into deep depression and subsequently became homeless. Finally merging the like 6 different "books" folders across as many storage devices and deduplicating them, organizing them by genre, adding things to calibre, etc. Been feeling extra scatterbrained recently and this is really helping me chill out. This all started when I wanted to put a book on my tablet and had to confront the non-Euclidean nightmare that is my organization "system" for the nth time.

Looking forward to feeling like everything is in its right place and getting back to that book I wanted to read.

Organizing has been going better than expected and worse than hoped, but leaves me in anticipation. Have gotten a lot of lucky breaks on some hard steps for labor and tenant organizing.

In a week I'm taking a bus to beer tasting festival. All free. So looking forward to responsibly getting tipsy then having a professional take me home

This is the first tim the beer festival has a bus and I'm like... This is perfect. Why isn't this how it always is

[-] microfiche@hexbear.net 6 points 22 hours ago

That sounds awesome. Is it a local bus, or a distance to get to?

[-] NinaPasadena@hexbear.net 6 points 21 hours ago

Lil over an hour. A bit outside the city in a more rural area. Which is nice since it's beautiful out there but just far enough it's a pain to drive.

[-] microfiche@hexbear.net 5 points 20 hours ago

That sounds like a lot of fun. I know you said next week but have fun! Good way to cut loose responsibly.

Those shortbreads are so good

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 7 points 23 hours ago

I often buy the cheapest thing of whatever I'm shopping for. But life is too short for inferior shortbread. Also - it turned out that the cheaper American brand - Lorna Doone - had bioengineered ingredients. Bleh! Fucking capitalism.

[-] Tiocfaidhcaisarla@hexbear.net 8 points 23 hours ago

Lorna Doone - had bioengineered ingredients

She probably was inspired by her time on Isla Nublar

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 5 points 23 hours ago

Excellent point.

[-] john_brown@hexbear.net 5 points 23 hours ago

as far as treats go it's real hard to beat those Walker's

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

I love shortbread cookies but I haven't had them in a very long time. It has to be at least 3 or 4 years. I'm getting groceries delivered so I'm correcting the oversight very soon.

The little space of time right before july-august where the weather is just right, not too hot, and the nights aren't too cold.
