Reminds me of Marie Antoinette dressing up as a peasant for fun as the people starved to death outside the palace.

It got her head cut off... Just saying.

You can't convince me that capitalism isn't a form of findom masochism.

Hilarious someone buying this adds $2,100 to the GDP when the factor cost was like $10.

[-] JustSo@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago

Balance your books before tax time with this easy trick the government doesn't want you to understand.

[-] Thordros@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago

Trash bags are so hot right now.

[-] Strayce@lemmy.sdf.org 31 points 2 days ago

I'm quite sure they're just out there laughing at the people buying this shit.

I'm quite sure they're just out there laughing at the people buying this shit.

There are rich people out there who literally can't imagine being poor and actually legit try to emulate it and are shocked with how impossible the task is; some cheat but there are those who legit try to do it

When you get that wealthy (or are born that wealthy) your understanding of the world seems to warp

Literally dabbing on the poor

[-] Ildsaye@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago

To dunk both on the poor, and on those who could and would buy it.

Oh so when this is how I packed all my things for the cub scouts camp trip I got made fun of but now it's luxury

[-] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

When I tour with bands, I bring 2 trash bags - one with all my clothes and random shit, and one for dirty stuff.

are they different colors or do you guess from stench?

[-] JustSo@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

use a big ziplock for clean stuff and w/e the fuck disposable grocery bag for dirty stuff.

[-] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah if there's not a place to unpack a spare bag is key. If you get a dresser or other such luxuries you dump everything in one drawer and pack the dirties back into the bag.

Pillowcase for the non clothing, in my experience

It's supposed to be subversive you Philistines!

How else can you signal to the poor that you have so much money?

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago

Less functional than an actual $3 trash bag from the box.

you can hire dressmaker for 18 hours and buy materials in the middle of imperial core for a quarter of the price, so they don't have internet on this. (fucked i know if there is anything more to this than stitching two cut pieces together and doing a thingy up top for a string, seems like 3 hours max)

[-] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

Sometimes these higher end products are made with legimately superior materials and craftsmanship.

I doubt that's the case with this but sometimes people online will be like "WHY IS PATAGONIA SELLING A $500 BACKPACK WHEN I CAN GET ONE AT COSTCO FOR TEN BUCKS???" Yeah guess which one is going to hold up better.

[-] Poutine@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago

You can often tell which products are actually worth the premium and which have inflated prices for brand reasons. Anything with stitching can have extremely different longevities depending on how much care was put into it, but there is of course a ceiling on how much labour can reasonably be put into one garment (thanks, Marx!) and thus there is a ceiling to what can be considered a reasonable price for a product.

But my favourite example of something that has absolutely no reason to be as expensive as it is is the humble Croc. A name-brand EVA clog sells for $50 — ten times the price of an identical product with no brand recognition shipped direct from the factory in China. Why? There is no skilled labour involved in the creation. There is no difference in the materials. These are machine-injected EVA.
