Easy access to antibiotic-laden meat has made us too huge to fit in nice clothes.

Meh, I look great in anything, or in nothing at all.

Or so I'm told

And it was caused 100% by Beau Brummell.

Which is an exaggeration, but not by much. The guy had quite the life, and is responsible for what became modern mens fashion.

2003 vs. 2017. Maybe we're headed back in the right direction.

[-] Geobloke@aussie.zone 2 points 4 hours ago

Man, that was 9 years ago, got something a bit more current?

[-] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 21 points 8 hours ago

I forgot that "wearing my dad's suit to prom" was the fashionable look for a while

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 3 points 5 hours ago

So, a bit more color variety and more form fitting? Though skinny pants are awful, it's hard to even sit

[-] Mandarbmax@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

Those old jackets were awful but the new pants are way too slim, look at how they wrinkle!

[-] Maestro@fedia.io 19 points 9 hours ago

Those oversized suits are soooo ugly...

[-] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 6 points 7 hours ago

Wait, do you mean we're going to get NBA All-Stars, Codpiece Edition!?!

2003, ganstas in suits?

Those aren't typical gentlemen postures or fittings for that period.

The lower looks like healthy yale grads in properly tailored suits.

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 8 points 8 hours ago

I forget peak baggy pants made it into suits as well lol. It was an ok look for jeans (at an earlier point in the spectrum before it got ridiculous baggy, which is of course subjective) But the suits are always too funny. Like how many times can you wear those pants before they are ruined?

Slowly healing

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 11 points 8 hours ago

That 1948 looks pretty damn good too though.

Great Male Renunciation. A reaction to the French revolution. How style for men was displayed no longer through expense of colors or keeping up with changing trends. Instead that wealth was shown by knowing the right materials to look like any common man but to those in the know be showing your class.

[-] Mr_Fish@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

What, should we bring back the macaroni hairstyle?

[-] villainy@lemmy.world 13 points 10 hours ago

This comm is always reminding me of Behind the Bastards. The whole suit and tie thing had to come from somewhere didn't it?

Part One: Beau Brummell: The First Celebrity and Inventor of the Suit and Tie

Part Two: Beau Brummell: The First Celebrity and Inventor of the Suit and Tie

[-] mech@feddit.org 8 points 10 hours ago

The French Revolution, mostly.

[-] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 5 points 9 hours ago

I prefer either of these for parties over the casual men outfits today.

[-] PugJesus@piefed.social 15 points 9 hours ago

but have you considered

comfortable

[-] e8d79@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

A well cut suite is really comfortable. I think many complaints about uncomfortable suits are from people who only know cheap plastic suites.

[-] moakley@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

It's not more comfortable than my v-neck and shorts that I wear every day.

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 3 points 5 hours ago

I mean, most people don't have the money to buy a well cut suit

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 3 hours ago

even if i did, why on earth would i blow it on something so utterly pointless as a suit?

Return to medieval peasant's clothing: cheap simple fabrics dyed with flowers and stuff.

[-] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 8 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Yes and as an autist i consider that the most important metric, no one should feel pressured to wear something uncomfortable, that said dressing in personally liked style itself can be a comfort of itself
