i just do not get it. do politics people not know how first past the post works? if everyone to the left of democrats keep voting for them while the republicans are shifting right, the democrats will shift right too to capture the "reasonable" republicans left in the middle. when you pledge your vote TWO YEARS IN ADVANCE the only thing you're doing is making it safe for the party to completely ignore you.

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago

There's something fascinating about the logic of these kinds of people.
If I were to suggest voting third party, they'd dismiss it as nice idea that was impossible because "noone would vote for them."
Yet when they are told someone won't vote for their candidate, then that is an indictment of the voter and not a sign to change strategy. I remember last election running into that paradox with many users on here, and they were always completely oblivious to it.

"Your candidate won't win, people are unwilling to vote for them."
"Okay, but I won't vote for Newsom and neither will anyone else."
"Nooo you have to vote for him!"

What they represent is the people’s rights; what interests them is the people’s interests. Accordingly, when a struggle is impending they do not need to examine the interests and positions of the different classes. They do not need to weigh their own resources too critically. They have merely to give the signal and the people, with all its inexhaustible resources, will fall upon the oppressors. Now if in the performance their interests prove to be uninteresting and their potency impotence, then either the fault lies with pernicious sophists, who split the indivisible people into different hostile camps, or the army was too brutalized and blinded to comprehend that the pure aims of democracy are the best thing for it, or the whole thing has been wrecked by a detail in its execution, or else an unforeseen accident has this time spoiled the game. In any case, the democrat comes out of the most disgraceful defeat just as immaculate as he was innocent when he went into it, with the newly won conviction that he is bound to win, not that he himself and his party have to give up the old standpoint, but, on the contrary, that conditions have to ripen to suit him.

Time is a flat circle, huh?

i think the napoleon-opposition democrats are the tragedy to the trump-opposition's farce. marx describes the napoleonic democrats as representatives of the petty-bourgeoisie, who, as a transition class, "[imagine themselves] elevated above class antagonism generally". the dnc democrats, on the other hand, represent the haute bourgeoisie first and the professional-managerial class as a distant second. they're well aware of the class dynamics at play, and every failure of theirs is at the best of times a refusal to deviate from the interests of the donors. the left-bashing is just set dressing, an excuse for why they, and therefore the state, absolutely cannot give an inch to the proletariat. also it serves as anticommunist propaganda. idk maybe the old democrats were like this too; i haven't read much of 18th brumaire. but for me it's hard to think the current democrats don't foresee their constant electoral losses. the way they treat trump, it seems like they don't care. they know their place. they're happy with their place.

Instead of fixing things with ICE, he would absolutely start using it as a way to destroy homeless encampments, too.

[-] red_giant@hexbear.net 30 points 1 day ago

What about giving ICE more funding for training and refusing to even consider trimming their budget to beneath that of a European military industrial complex?

[-] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 39 points 1 day ago

based on your logic....your fans are in favor of dog abuse as well?

If this person had comprehension skills he'd understand Hasan's logic is the opposite of this; he just wanted to throw in the dog abuse comment really badly.

Hasan is criticizing people who blindly follow their favorite streamers, his logic is opposed to doing that.

[-] Ishmael@hexbear.net 68 points 1 day ago

They keep losing elections, blaming leftists for it, then putting up candidates who alienate leftists, and then yelling at leftists for not supporting their candidates. Like a never-ending cycle.

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 27 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Run a candidate the left wont support.

Tell them to stfu because they're insignificant

The candidate loses the election

This is because the left didn't vote for the candidate

Run a candidate the left doesn't support

Tell them to stfu because they're insignificant

(Bonus: each cycle the Dems base is further alienated)

almost like their purpose isn't to win elections but to prevent the slightest leftward movement of any sort

Candidates who alienate leftists and median Democratic voters

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 21 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Instead of obsessing over the left, this person could obsess over how to get half the country that doesn't vote to vote.

[-] Богданова@lemmygrad.ml 23 points 1 day ago

If I lost an election and my opponent was Hitler Jr. I'd probably quit politics entirely and become a hermit, because I wouldn't be able to handle the embarrassment of how dogshit of a job I've done. The worse your opponent is the worse you are if you lose an election. And if they're rigged then why does this even matter?

[-] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 63 points 1 day ago

It's so telling how radlibs are constantly demanding that trans people and Palestinians just give up on their human rights to not alienate potential voters, while they're out there constantly using leftwingers as a punchingbag to vent their frustrations. Like, is attracting potential voters important now or not?

[-] OffSeasonPrincess@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago

"Minorities will vote for us as 'the lesser evil' anyway so we can fuck them over to win some bigots' votes on top of that. If minorities dont vote for us, we can just call them ungrateful idiots who deserve to get fucked over" -how i assume dems think like

[-] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago

Like, is attracting potential voters important now or not?

Only if they're an imaginary homophobe, transphobe and racist who for some reason still would consider voting for the democrats.

If you're a Trans person or a PoC? Fuck you, roll over.

[-] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 54 points 1 day ago

when top-cop lost it hadnt even been a full day before the democrats went full "it's actually because of trans people"

i cannot fucking deal with the liberal trans with the political memory of a goldfish catgirl-flop

Here's my signal demand. Pander to me, campaign on some popular progressive idea like M4A or legal weed or some shit. You don't even have to deliver on it, you can pull an Obama. Just pretend that something will fundamentally change!

This is how low the bar is.

[-] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 44 points 1 day ago

It is so wild that the dems won't even consider lying about superficial changes anymore, they had one strategy that actually worked and they vowed to never do it again.

[-] LeZero@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

They wouldn't want to upset their suburban republican voters

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 27 points 1 day ago

"This tactic of trying to shame and insult people into voting for someone who won't actually do anything to protect marginalised people didn't work for us last time, or the time before that, or the time before that, but it's sure to work this time!"

Good grief, I can't imagine them talking like a obnoxious smug debate lords IRL as they are on Twitter... who am I kidding, these people don't go outside and engage with other human beings, otherwise they wouldn't talk like this

[-] qaopjlll@hexbear.net 45 points 1 day ago

Surely Hasan will regret voting third party after Vance narrowly defeats Newsom in the electoral college while winning California by a single vote

[-] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

A couple more years on his current trajectory and Hasan will be joining the queue to tell people to vote newsom. Unless he figures the grift is better to provide faux resistance

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 98 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm begging liberals, think farther than one (1) presidential election into the future.

Elect the lesser evil now, by the time elections come around everyone hates him and they vote for the other guy. Then it repeats, the greater evil gets elected, everyone hates him, and so the lesser evil gets their turn. Over and over until we're all dead.

Kissing the feet of someone who isn't even running yet and expecting others to do the same if so weird. What up with that? Why are people like this in the US?

[-] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 57 points 1 day ago

burgerlanders think democracy is when there's a carefully stage-managed horse race orchestrated by the single, dominant faction of the party-corporation.... which is executed much more like a reality TV show than an electoral process. if it was even remotely democratic, all states would vote on the same fucking day instead of this completely archaic and rube goldberg "path to the convention" bullshit to collect delegates and horse-trade for super delegates.

these early rumblings are like the teasers for Season 22 of Democratic Party Primaries. it has nothing to do at all with who has what platform, what matters is loyalty to a camp. if you don't swear allegiance to anyone and everyone that could be crowned during the primaries, you are a not a true fan of the franchise and must be shouted down. why? because you are distracting from the point of the TV show, which is to convince everyone that the democratic presidential primaries are democratic, and not a rigged horse race of focus groups and brands competing for the role of Figure Head.

These "Vote Blue No Matter Who" types are the first to withhold their vote if anyone to the left of Klobuchar is on the ticket. Just look how their masks came off when Mamdani won the primary.

But then they get mad when marginalized groups withhold their votes to send a message and still make smug, “you saved Gaza” comments.

I never trusted people who are deep into idpol speak. You get the feeling they’ll say some vile shit the moment you don’t align with them

Edit: that liberal is part of a Destiny group that posts racist memes about murdering Palestinians. Lmao you can always clock these virtue-signaling whites a mile away.

This proves Hasan doesn't care about ANY of the marginalized groups he pretends to support.

Nah, it just means he knows California will go to Newsom anyways, so why waste the time voting lmao
