I'm begging liberals, think farther than one (1) presidential election into the future.

Elect the lesser evil now, by the time elections come around everyone hates him and they vote for the other guy. Then it repeats, the greater evil gets elected, everyone hates him, and so the lesser evil gets their turn. Over and over until we're all dead.

[-] DerRedMax@hexbear.net 56 points 1 month ago

But this is the most important election of our time!

[-] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 49 points 1 month ago

Just stick me in the deadlights now this ain't getting fixed by this society.

Many grains of lesser evil voting create the heap of rising fascism.

Had to make it into a haiku, it was so close already.

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 35 points 1 month ago

At this point I'd almost take them just thinking past Ronald fucking Reagan

[-] Homer_Simpson@hexbear.net 29 points 1 month ago

The most important election of your life!

If I was locked in a room with Gavin Newsome, Jd Vance, and Nicholas Maduro I would shoot Vance twice , then tear Gavin Newsome apart with my bare hands.

But then they get mad when marginalized groups withhold their votes to send a message and still make smug, “you saved Gaza” comments.

I never trusted people who are deep into idpol speak. You get the feeling they’ll say some vile shit the moment you don’t align with them

Edit: that liberal is part of a Destiny group that posts racist memes about murdering Palestinians. Lmao you can always clock these virtue-signaling whites a mile away.

[-] purpleworm@hexbear.net 51 points 1 month ago

I never trusted people who are deep into idpol speak. You get the feeling they’ll say some vile shit the moment you don’t align with them

Nothing says progressive like how they weaponize their identities to argue for treating other minorities like sacrificial lambs and kneecapping any sort of real progressive movement.

[-] Nopeace@hexbear.net 78 points 1 month ago

YOU OWE US YOUR VOTE!!! IT'S OURS!!!!!! angery

Truly the incel/nice guys of electoral politics

[-] Homer_Simpson@hexbear.net 77 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Here's my signal demand. Pander to me, campaign on some popular progressive idea like M4A or legal weed or some shit. You don't even have to deliver on it, you can pull an Obama. Just pretend that something will fundamentally change!

This is how low the bar is.

[-] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 45 points 1 month ago

It is so wild that the dems won't even consider lying about superficial changes anymore, they had one strategy that actually worked and they vowed to never do it again.

These "Vote Blue No Matter Who" types are the first to withhold their vote if anyone to the left of Klobuchar is on the ticket. Just look how their masks came off when Mamdani won the primary.

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 73 points 1 month ago

Kissing the feet of someone who isn't even running yet and expecting others to do the same if so weird. What up with that? Why are people like this in the US?

[-] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 58 points 1 month ago

burgerlanders think democracy is when there's a carefully stage-managed horse race orchestrated by the single, dominant faction of the party-corporation.... which is executed much more like a reality TV show than an electoral process. if it was even remotely democratic, all states would vote on the same fucking day instead of this completely archaic and rube goldberg "path to the convention" bullshit to collect delegates and horse-trade for super delegates.

these early rumblings are like the teasers for Season 22 of Democratic Party Primaries. it has nothing to do at all with who has what platform, what matters is loyalty to a camp. if you don't swear allegiance to anyone and everyone that could be crowned during the primaries, you are a not a true fan of the franchise and must be shouted down. why? because you are distracting from the point of the TV show, which is to convince everyone that the democratic presidential primaries are democratic, and not a rigged horse race of focus groups and brands competing for the role of Figure Head.

[-] Inui@hexbear.net 46 points 1 month ago

In some way, they recognize that the party will preordain whoever it is they want to win and do anything possible to push them to the front. So if it appears Newsome is the likely nominee, they will back him 100% and suggest that people in the way of that are handing the election over because part of their brain knows the Dems won't run a progressive candidate.

A third party win is never possible because "people won't vote for them", meaning they themselves who have become comfortable in their bondage, will not do so. Otherwise they would have to face the fact that they contributed to the current (negative) societal conditions by voting against the preordained person. Just as the tankies, the single issue voters, and whatever nonsense name they use did.

Their framing is backwards in that their vote determines their morality and standing and can be a personal failure. Instead of the party failing them by running terrible candidates and preferring to lose instead of doing literally anything beneficial for their voters.

[-] PKMKII@hexbear.net 43 points 1 month ago

That they’re talking about him as if he’s already the nominee and any criticism of him is “spoiling” the election for the GOP candidate just shows that for all their noble talk of saving democracy, they really hate the masses having any say over the state.

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 29 points 1 month ago

if you don't like Gavin then who should be the candidate is their only response. Or you can say bad things about the dems it'll prevent people from voting already

She is so out of touch that she thinks all he did was make a comment about sports. Meanwhile he's vetoing trans protections and personally fistfighting unhoused people.

[-] Ishmael@hexbear.net 69 points 1 month ago

They keep losing elections, blaming leftists for it, then putting up candidates who alienate leftists, and then yelling at leftists for not supporting their candidates. Like a never-ending cycle.

[-] into_highest_invite@lemmygrad.ml 46 points 1 month ago

almost like their purpose isn't to win elections but to prevent the slightest leftward movement of any sort

Candidates who alienate leftists and median Democratic voters

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Run a candidate the left wont support.

Tell them to stfu because they're insignificant

The candidate loses the election

This is because the left didn't vote for the candidate

Run a candidate the left doesn't support

Tell them to stfu because they're insignificant

(Bonus: each cycle the Dems base is further alienated)

[-] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 64 points 1 month ago

It's so telling how radlibs are constantly demanding that trans people and Palestinians just give up on their human rights to not alienate potential voters, while they're out there constantly using leftwingers as a punchingbag to vent their frustrations. Like, is attracting potential voters important now or not?

"This tactic of trying to shame and insult people into voting for someone who won't actually do anything to protect marginalised people didn't work for us last time, or the time before that, or the time before that, but it's sure to work this time!"

Surely Hasan will regret voting third party after Vance narrowly defeats Newsom in the electoral college while winning California by a single vote

Dems somehow still don't understand how insufferable they sound

[-] daniyeg@hexbear.net 44 points 1 month ago

i just do not get it. do politics people not know how first past the post works? if everyone to the left of democrats keep voting for them while the republicans are shifting right, the democrats will shift right too to capture the "reasonable" republicans left in the middle. when you pledge your vote TWO YEARS IN ADVANCE the only thing you're doing is making it safe for the party to completely ignore you.

Instead of fixing things with ICE, he would absolutely start using it as a way to destroy homeless encampments, too.

[-] red_giant@hexbear.net 33 points 1 month ago

What about giving ICE more funding for training and refusing to even consider trimming their budget to beneath that of a European military industrial complex?

[-] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 39 points 1 month ago

based on your logic....your fans are in favor of dog abuse as well?

If this person had comprehension skills he'd understand Hasan's logic is the opposite of this; he just wanted to throw in the dog abuse comment really badly.

Hasan is criticizing people who blindly follow their favorite streamers, his logic is opposed to doing that.

[-] Chana@hexbear.net 38 points 1 month ago

The only person implying they're speaking on behalf of trans people is her. Liberals cannot help but self-tokenize.

[-] purpleworm@hexbear.net 38 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I still strongly disagree with him on several things, but I'm pleasantly surprised he's finally moving in the direction of talking about supporting third parties after speaking so emphatically against it less than a week ago speaking to Varoufakis. I wonder what changed it for him.

Edit: Also, I forgot that some Dems unironically say verbatim "vote blue no matter who"

This is how trump wins a 3rd election.

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago

There's something fascinating about the logic of these kinds of people.
If I were to suggest voting third party, they'd dismiss it as nice idea that was impossible because "noone would vote for them."
Yet when they are told someone won't vote for their candidate, then that is an indictment of the voter and not a sign to change strategy. I remember last election running into that paradox with many users on here, and they were always completely oblivious to it.

"Your candidate won't win, people are unwilling to vote for them."
"Okay, but I won't vote for Newsom and neither will anyone else."
"Nooo you have to vote for him!"

Are you going to commit to making the candidate someone whom people will actually vote for?
