Imagine looking at what's going on in the US and thinking "We should copy that"

Apparently large chunks of the electorate in many European countries, the UK, Canada, etc. see it exactly this way. I find it really hard to understand given how obviously miserable life is in any fascist country.

They already exist, but they are more competent.

These far-right groups in Europe are being funded and supported by the USA and Russia. If Europeans want their own sovereignty they must not fall for this fake nationalism that is backed by foreign fascist countries. Fighting fascism is necessary to preserve not only your own freedom but also your country's independence.

funded and supported by the USA and Russia.

Don't forget China. At least in case of Germanys AFD.

This is what Steve Bannon does as his day job (as well as drink heavily).

Trying not to fall for it on a moral and idealist level isn't enough. The far-right groups are gaining momentum because they're offering more prosperity to the people of their respective countries than the status quo. The foreign funding provides fuel to their ability to operate but their promise is what gets them real numbers. This promise is not going to be fulfilled long term since it doesn't address the real problems. But that won't stop people from trying it. There's a very real possibility that their message will still gain overwhelming support even if the foreign funding is cut (which should absolutely be cut). People are entirely capable of funding popular political movements themselves. Not to mention domestic corporate interests coming onboard. This is why I think the real medicine is a material alternative for increased prosperity beyond the status quo. Increasing the retirement age to pay for tax cuts in the age of automation is the opposite of that.

The far right groups are gaining ground because they are running as reform, and the mainstream parties are all captured by the rich and connected, and are running as the status quo, while it's never been more clear the status quo is a rapidly declining standard of living, and personal freedoms.

It is quite simple, the far right, backed by the US and Russia, will win, because they are the only ones running as reform. What is wrong with the other parties? They are too afraid to buck the rich to save all of them, including the rich, from a fascist state? Do they not realize the fascists will fix themselves in power, and rig elections?

But all we need to do is field popular reform, real populism, not the fake populism of the far right that scapegoats others for our problems, like blaming immigrants for our stolen lunch, the rich stole our lunch.

because they’re offering more prosperity to the people of their respective countries

No, they don't. They just lie. And they do so very obviously. Which then brings us back to sovereignity and independence... in the form of media and social media that is either highly corrupt or incompetent (in reality probably different amounts of both) and totally failing in informing us about actual facts over cheap clicks.

That's good actually, with this we know who's a potential domestic terrorist.

[-] agingelderly@lemmy.world 16 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

Dear rest of the world - these people are your terrorists. Stomp them out before you become a shit hole like the USA. Please

Edit: grammar

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 11 points 13 hours ago

But the European right has prior art in the domain. Surely they know their histor... Oh. 😂

It's much older. Fascism comes from Fasces. The Roman civilisation thrived with it.

The fasces, as a bundle of rods with an axe, was a grouping of all the equipment needed to inflict corporal or capital punishment. In ancient Rome, the bundle was a material symbol of a Roman magistrate's full civil and military power, known as imperium. They were carried in a procession with a magistrate by lictors, who carried the fasces and, at times, used the birch rods as punishment to enforce obedience with magisterial commands.

=> i.e later the Blackshirts, Brownshirts, mafia, ICE etc.

All Mussolini, Hitler (and in a similar fashion Stalin & Mao) plus many many others did was copy paste this concept. It's in our DNA That's why it's so dangerous.

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 7 points 12 hours ago

You can just say fascists. It’s - there’s no legitimate reason not to.

What's going on is global. It's not about nations anymore. Humanity is already owned from beyond nations and the nations are just tools for them.

I don't understand how people aren't committing suicide more often. It's like humanity is figuratively commiting suicide though.

This. And it's all about who is in control, it's always been. And the current "disharmony" has deliberately been created for that purpose imo. It's the "old settlers nomad dichotomy " repacked & remodeled to invoke fears.

Doesn't make the threat less real though, just saying. The enemy within, the enemy without.
