holding flashlight under face

Imagine a terrifying world where we are all ruled by monsters of every stripe. And not hot ones like werewolves, but instead decaying zombies and mummies who are both insensitive to, and actively benefit from the immense suffering they cause on a daily basis. The top echelon of society, filled with profit-seeking, bloodsucking vampires. And the worst of it is that they repeat on a daily basis that what they are doing is not only just, but there is no other possible way to do it.

Pretty spooky, right? What if I told you that this world... was our own?

Happy Halloween!

Friendly reminder: when commenting about a news event, especially something that just happened, please provide a source of some kind. While ideally this would be on nitter or archived, any source is preferable to none at all given.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Check out the quote - "When I see a Palestinian child..." What a fucking liar he is.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken will discuss steps Israel “can and should” take to minimize civilian casualties during his upcoming visit to Tel Aviv.

“[W]e will be talking about concrete steps that can and should be taken to minimize harm to men, women, and children in Gaza, and this is something that the United States is committed to,” Blinken said Thursday.

While the secretary didn't offer any other details, he did reiterate that the topic is on the agenda for the visit. Blinken is expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other leaders of the Israeli government, according to the State Department.

“When I see a Palestinian child, a boy or a girl pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building, that hits me in the gut as much as seeing a child in Israel or anywhere else. So this is something that we have an obligation to respond to, and we will,” he said. Asked if Israel had shown restraint in its offensive in Gaza, Blinken did not offer a yes or no answer, and instead reiterated that Israel has the right to defend itself and the "responsibility to do everything possible to protect civilians."

He said that this was "a crossfire ... of Hamas' making."

Blinken leaves Thursday for a trip to Israel, Jordan, Japan, South Korea and India. He emphasized again on the tarmac ahead of his trip that the US is “determined to deter any escalation.”

Blinken also added that there must be a focus on what comes next.

“We do have to have conversations now about how we can best set the conditions for a durable, sustainable peace, durable, sustainable security for Israelis and Palestinians alike," he said.

paraphrasing "some tell you we are about to engage in war, we have already been in this battle since October 8th"

saying this is basically the extent to which they're going to get involved, smaller skirmishes and shooting down drones and stuff. I wonder if Israel escalates even more to try to force their hand. or do more insane shit in Gaza.

Huffpo: Biden's Israel-Gaza Approach Sidelines State Department, And Officials Fear The Worst

A task force on preventing atrocities did not meet until two weeks into the war, and officials say department leaders are telling them their expertise won't affect policy.

Longish read with surprisingly decent journalism Here are the first few paragraphs:

Nearly one month into Israel’s U.S.-backed military assault on the Gaza Strip, some State Department officials say their agency is being sidelined in a way that risks hurting American foreign policy, demoralizing valuable personnel and worsening the humanitarian toll of the war.

Many diplomats are alarmed by Washington’s largely unrestricted approval of Israel’s conduct in the war against Hamas, which began on Oct. 7 after the Gaza-based militant group launched a brutal shock attack. So far, more than 9,000 Gazans and more than 1,400 Israelis have been killed, according to officials.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken acknowledged the broad discontent within his department in a message to staff on Oct. 19, and some of his lieutenants have since held listening sessions and town hall meetings to discuss the war with department officials at both State’s headquarters in Washington and its facilities worldwide.

But during some of those conversations, managers have told staffers they should not expect to influence U.S. policy on Israel-Palestine regardless of their national security chops, according to five current and one recently departed State Department officials who talked to HuffPost.

Almost missed Rybar for November 3, 2023

No map with this update.

spoiler❗️🇮🇱🇵🇸 Escalation in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Zone

Update as of November 3, 2023

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are currently conducting operations in the Gaza Strip. Troops are advancing from three directions: the north, northwest, and central part of the enclave. In the north, there have been no significant changes. However, the Israelis are expanding their control in the area of the Al-Shati camp. Additionally, militants ambushed the IDF at the Erez checkpoint near the city of Beit Hanoun.

In the central part of the enclave, Israeli troops have made deeper incursions. Previously, the IDF occupied positions along the Salah ed-Din highway. According to some reports, they have now almost reached the Ar-Rashid highway near the Mediterranean Sea. The only evidence of their progress is footage of the battles at Dzhuhr Ed Dik. The objective of this advance, as previously stated, is to cut off the city of Gaza from the southern territories of the enclave and physically block it.

Furthermore, the IDF Air Force continues to shell the sector continuously. Today, the surroundings of the local Al-Quds and Al-Shifa hospitals were attacked once again. Tragically, one of the ambulances transporting civilians was destroyed in the process.

On the border with Lebanon, Hezbollah fighters were relatively passive today. They launched several attacks on IDF strongholds at Menara and the Matat base. This is likely due to the recent speech by Hezbollah's Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallah, and their anticipation of further instructions from the movement's leadership.

Regarding Nasrallah's speech, which many had been eagerly awaiting, it turned out to be quite controversial. Hezbollah's secretary general did not call for any decisive action but instead tried to shift the focus away from Iran in the current situation. Alongside populist statements, he also spoke about the perceived weakness of the Israelis. However, it seems unlikely that the group will engage in large-scale actions such as an invasion of northern Israel.

On Israel's role in American geopolitical plans for the middle East and vice versa

https://newleftreview.org/sidecar/posts/imperial-designs

This regional blueprint always suffered from serious problems. First, if its raison d’être was Great Power politics – stepping back from the Middle East to sharpen the focus on China – it proved partly counterproductive. For in signalling its diminished appetite for interference in the region, the US conveyed to its allies that they would not have to make a zero-sum choice between American and Chinese partnership; hence the PRC’s increasingly warm welcome in the Arab world: its construction of a military base in the UAE, its brokering of the Iran–Saudi rapprochement and its network of technology and infrastructure investments.

Rybar had two interesting updates today (November 4), both below.

spoiler❗️🇮🇱🇵🇸 Israeli Operation in the Gaza Strip: Results as of November 4

In the past two days, IDF units have continued to advance further into the Gaza Strip as they finalize preparations for a full-fledged ground operation in the northern part of the enclave.

Along the coast, IDF units have focused on expanding their control zone and taking over Al-Mashtal Street in the Al-Shati camp. In the northeast, the Israelis still maintain control of the outskirts of the city of Beit Hanoun.

On the eastern flank, Israeli troops have made progress towards the Al-Rashid coastal highway, which is the last land route connecting the northern and southern parts of the Gaza Strip. However, the situation in this area is uncertain due to the ongoing conflicts in the Juhr ad-Dik area.

spoiler❗️🇮🇱🇵🇸 Escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict zone

Latest updates as of November 4, 2023

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) units are continuing their advance into the Gaza Strip. In the northern part of the enclave, Israeli troops are engaged in combat in Beit Hanoun and attempting to gain control of Al-Mashtal Street in the Al-Shati camp. In the south of Gaza, the IDF is working to break through to the Ar-Rashid coastal highway.

Simultaneously, the Israeli command has announced a three-hour period during which traffic will be allowed from Gaza City to the south along the Salah ed-Din highway. Palestinian media immediately portrayed this as an Israeli ambush. However, in the evening, the IDF accused Hamas militants of attacking the units that were deployed to ensure safe passage.

Furthermore, there are ongoing mass attacks on the territory of the enclave, both from the air and sea. Throughout the day, footage of the destruction of Al-Katiba Mosque, Al-Azhar University, and several bakeries has been widely shared, with long queues forming for bread near these locations.

Mutual exchanges of fire continue along the Israeli-Lebanese border. Hezbollah fighters have used a Burkan missile for the first time since the start of the conflict in an attack on Jal al-Alam. The Israeli command has confirmed two missile strikes but noted that the explosive mass did not exceed 100 kg.
