Creating atheism all around me

[-] solomonschuler@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 months ago

I knew this would be here, I did not think it would be at the top of the comments.

I used to have a lot of less visible piercings, but I had a persistent intrusive thought about being rushed to an MRI while unconscious that I couldn’t get past. Implanting magnets in your body is insane.

[-] NABDad@lemmy.world 21 points 5 months ago

A woman's son was given an order for an MRI because of some heart problems. He was very nervous about it, but he didn't want to tell his mom why.

His parents were divorced. Turns out, when he was staying with his father years ago and came home with a black eye, it wasn't caused the way he described. He and his friends were playing with a BB gun, and he got shot in the eye, and the BB was still in there under the skin. His father made him promise not to tell his mother.

They put a magnet up to it, and it was attracted to the magnet. They had to get it removed so they could get the MRI.

The chef's kiss to the story:

As a child, his mother had lost an eye after being shot with a BB gun.

I’m guessing A Christmas Story (1983).

A central theme is the main character Ralphie really wants a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle for Christmas, but all the adults he expresses this to insist he’ll shoot his eye out.

[-] NABDad@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

Of course, you're correct. Now I feel like an idiot.

To be fair, I don't allow myself to watch Christmas movies or listen to Christmas music except between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so my mind wasn't there yet.

[-] Schadrach@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 5 months ago

Only way to fight back in the War on Christmas, which like the Palestine and Israel is mostly just an excuse for the alleged victim (Israel) to attack and take territory from their neighbors.

Here Christmas has invaded so far that there are occasional sightings before the equinox.

[-] NABDad@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Tell me about it. I went to Home Goods on November 1st to see if they had any Halloween stuff on clearance.

The entire store was decked out for Christmas and the Thanksgiving stuff was on clearance.

Of course, since I live in a decaying, haunted house, Thanksgiving themed decor would clash with the natural ambiance .

[-] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 20 points 5 months ago

hope she never needs an MRI scan

She can't date anyone with tongue piercings

[-] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Or maybe she should lol, who doesn't like getting head?

[-] vzqq@lemmy.blahaj.zone 37 points 5 months ago

I’ve seen them do it.

[-] Maxxie@piefed.blahaj.zone 32 points 5 months ago

2015, huh. He was ahead of his time.

[-] Secret_Music@piefed.blahaj.zone 23 points 5 months ago

Yeah, this guy could be some sort of maga caricature. He's got it all. Religious, transphobic (and probably general bigot), conspiracy theorist, pulling absolutely wild nonsense from his asshole and treating it like fact, should probably be considered a symptom of a mental health pandemic.

So their god has some kinda electromagnetic properties? Is that why iron chariots are his weakness?

[-] queerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zone 13 points 5 months ago

That's why he banned golden idols, he knew they were immune to his one weakness.

[-] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

just make sure you get the right polarity or you might end up putting more god into them

[-] Una@europe.pub 19 points 5 months ago

Who snitched?

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 17 points 5 months ago

Just pour water on the magnets. ➡️ No more magnets. Checkmate, atheists.

[-] I_am_10_squirrels@beehaw.org 12 points 5 months ago

I'm all for sucking someone's brains out, but I've never tried it with a magnet

[-] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

Yo can I get some of them magnets? I know some folks who could do with a lil less Jesus.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
