Of all the things that didn't happen, this didn't happen the most.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 90 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

IDK why, but this reminded me of something thay happened when I was in highschool... I was a goth kid. One day I drew a pentagram on my hand and the vice principal came up to me at lunch and started asking about it and I got all indignant about religious freedom and shit thinking he was gonna tell me its not school appropriate. I finish my rant and he just goes "I just wanted to point out that it's not satanic in that direction. You need to flip it around."

You accidentally banished your own demons smh.

[-] anguo@piefed.ca 14 points 3 months ago

Which orientation of the hand is up? Would rotating your hand a few degrees count?

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 22 points 3 months ago

Such an obvious lie too, it's almost like they wanted to get caught.

Wait, did we get engagement baited?

[-] chatokun@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 months ago

Maybe inflation is just that bad, but there was no way I'd have $10 in high school (96-99). I barely had money to eat lunch, maybe $1 some days. I didn't swear anyway back then (grew up JW), but a $10 fine would have made parents flip their shit.

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 72 points 3 months ago

That kid's name? Luigi Mangione.

[-] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

No, you did that wrong. It's every time either Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain or Albert Einstein.

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

Not true. Case-in-point: this time it was Luigi Mangione.

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 41 points 3 months ago

This is fake but this rule if ever really implemented would be extremely wrong for so many reasons.

[-] queerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zone 26 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

A school fining students for swearing is the most believable part of this story to me. I don't think I ever saw fines for swearing but we had fines for chewing gum, dress code violations etc. I 100% believe a school would implement this exact policy. And I agree it's pretty fucked up and classist to fine children.

Oh, but indoctrinating them with abhorrently-bigoted propaganda disguised as "history", et al, that's ok, though.

Hmm. 😜

[-] RustySharp@programming.dev 17 points 3 months ago

Two things can be wrong at the same time. Even 5. Or, looking at the world right now, everything can be wrong all at once

[-] qarbone@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

"You absolute maroon! I possess the capabilities to be wrong in quantities and qualities you could scarce imagine. It would boggle any mind, even my own!"

[-] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago

Now, read it as Vecini.

[-] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 months ago

Fair points, all. ☝🏼

[-] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

This is true. 🥲😭😅

[-] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 months ago

Its impossible for everything to be wrong all at once. I doubt you can reach 25% of all things

[-] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

Impossible, you say? Hunh... Here, hold my coffee. I've got a couple ideas.

[-] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 months ago

You can get planets to be wrong?

[-] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago

Too young to remember Pluto? 🥲🤷🏽‍♂️

[-] queerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 months ago

No, I think that's pretty messed up as well. The schools I went to had a lot of problems.

[-] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

Not as many as the students within them, though. 🙇🏼‍♂️ I feel ya 🤘🏼

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

We had a swear jar in my high school drum line. It paid for an annual camping trip we went on.

Drummers cuss a lot.

[-] dev_null@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

I didn't even own a wallet when I was in school, only got one when I got my first job and opened my first bank account. How are kids paying such fines? The parents pay them?

[-] queerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 months ago

I guess. In high school I had a job, so I was very careful not to get fined because it would be coming out of my pocket. Still got busted for uniform violations a couple of times but I learned quick how not to get caught. If I didn't have money I would have had to ask my parents, which in its own way was more costly than just paying it myself.

[-] chatokun@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago

I barely had lunch money, maybe $1 or less on me when I was in highschool. I admit that because I didn't get allowance, maybe other kids had more money than me, but we weren't destitute level of poor, like many kids were. I don't see how you can fine that easily without being in an affluent area.

[-] queerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 months ago

I went to catholic school, most of the students' families had at least tuition money. I was one of the "need-based scholarship" kids so my tuition was less, and I had a job so I had some income, which I used mostly for gas to get to and from my job and most of the rest went to tuition. Fines were added to the tuition bill, and if you hadn't settled up by the beginning of the next year / graduation, you couldn't re-enroll / graduate.

"I'm a14yo edgelord" vibes.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 26 points 3 months ago

Lloyd Seay was a 14 year old bootlegger who got pulled over for speeding.

He tried to bribe the cop with a $20 bill. The cop said “the fine ain’t but $10”

Lloyd said “yeah but I’m coming back through here so I’ll just pay that fine now”

At least it's bot even a funny story

[-] SereneSadie@lemmy.myserv.one 14 points 3 months ago

Fake as it is, I can totally see school teachers being that fucking pathetic and petty to extract tithes from students.

[-] Honse@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 3 months ago

No one gonna mention how there wouldn't even be any change if swears are $10 each

[-] 1rre@discuss.tchncs.de 18 points 3 months ago

that's the joke

[-] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 3 months ago

We had a legit swear jar in a vocational class in HS (in the 90s). It was 25¢ per swear unless is was at the teacher, then it was a dollar.

We had pizza at the end of the semester from the proceeds.

The teacher later got canned for throwing a hammer at a student, but it was after my time there.

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 months ago

Learning swear words in other languages would be very useful in this case.

[-] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 11 points 3 months ago

A cunt, I called you a cunt sir. It's Australian.
